Chapter 256 Leander in Trouble

James couldn't help but grin when he saw Leander's worried face.

He knew Leander was just trying to act tough.

Meanwhile, Leander was staring at the menu like it was a math test, frowning hard.

This dinner had already set him back nearly $200,000, and now Thalia wanted wine.

If it was just regular wine, Leander wouldn't care. A bottle of that would only be a few hundred bucks.

But at The Golden Elm Bistro, any bottle of wine would cost at least $40,000!

Leander had already spent a fortune trying to get laid with Thalassa. Ordering more wine would be like digging his own grave.

But if he didn't, Thalia would definitely think he was broke, and all his efforts would go down the drain.

That's why Leander was so stressed.

James, on the other hand, was watching Leander with a smirk, curious to see how he'd wiggle out of this one.

"Leander, what are you doing? Hurry up and order the wine!" Thalassa rolled her eyes and glared at him, seeing him just holding the menu and not saying a word.

"Is that all there is?" Leander hesitated, wanting to ask the waitress if there were any cheaper options.

"Sir, we also have some rare wines in our cellar. If you think the wines on the menu aren't high-end enough, you can go to our cellar and choose. The wines there are aged and of high quality, but they are a bit more expensive." The waitress clearly didn't get Leander's hint. She thought he wouldn't mind spending more.

Thalia's eyes lit up when she heard the waitress and she shouted excitedly, "A wine cellar? Leander, let's go check it out!"

Leander's frown deepened as he looked at Thalia.

He couldn't even afford the wines on the menu, let alone the ones in the cellar.

Going to the cellar would bankrupt him.

Thalia grabbed Leander's arm, speaking proudly, "Leander, come on, let's go check out the cellar!"

Leander hesitated for a couple of seconds before saying quietly, "Thalia, I don't have that much money on me right now. I can only afford this meal. If you really want to go to the cellar and choose wine, you'll have to pay for it yourself."

Thalia was stunned.

Leander had figured that pretending in front of Thalia wasn't worth it anymore, so he might as well be honest.

"Leander, what do you mean by that?" Thalia shouted, looking angry.

"Yeah, Leander, what's wrong with you? My mom just wants a bottle of wine. How much could it cost you?" Thalassa also shouted.

"Thalassa, I really don't have that much cash on me today. If we order wine, we might not have enough to cover the bill. What would we do then?" Leander said, feeling helpless.

"If you don't have enough cash, can't you just use a credit card? This is your first time meeting my mom, and you won't even buy her a bottle of wine?" Thalassa snapped back.

She wasn't really mad about the wine; she just wanted to show off in front of Laura and Joe.

But she didn't realize how much pressure she was putting on Leander.

James and Laura, who had been quietly eating, looked up at Leander when they heard the argument.

Laura turned to James and smiled.

Thalia had been singing Leander's praises earlier, but now they were fighting over a bottle of wine.

Thalia was really showing her true colors as a gold digger.

"If you really want wine, I can take you to a winery abroad next time, okay?" Leander said softly to Thalia, hesitating.

"Leander, you make it sound like we're taking advantage of you. It's just a bottle of wine. I'll pay for it myself, okay?" Thalia said with disdain, then turned to the waitress. "Take us to the cellar now!"

"The cheapest wine in the cellar costs $500,000. Are you sure you want to go?" the waitress reminded her.

Thalia was stunned.

Joe, knowing Thalia's financial situation, quickly stepped in to defuse the situation. "Maybe we should forget it. We all drove here today, so let's just have some juice."

"That's right, we all drove here today, so we really shouldn't drink. Just bring us some juice!" Thalia quickly added.

"Okay!" the waitress reluctantly agreed and left the room.

After the waitress left, the atmosphere in the room became awkward.

Thalassa and Thalia, who had been so boastful, were now completely subdued. They ignored Leander.

Leander kept his head down, eating. He knew his actions had ruined his chances with Thalassa, but he didn't regret it.

With everyone silent, James and Laura enjoyed some peace. They chatted occasionally, and James helped Laura with her food, looking much closer than Thalassa and Leander.

Ten minutes passed quickly.

Just when James thought the meal would end peacefully, someone entered the room, breaking the silence.

Atticus walked in with a tray, carrying a bottle of wine.

James immediately felt his heart sink, cursing inwardly, 'Atticus, I'm almost done with this meal. Why are you coming in now?'
