Chapter 304 Lucian's Arrival
James's intuition had always been spot on. He knew there must be some hidden reasons behind Wilford's sudden change in attitude towards Conrad.
However, James felt like he had never seen this Wilford before, so he dismissed the thought.
But when James saw Wilford walking towards him, he suddenly realized something was off.
"Mr. Smith, you're here! That's great, I've finally found you!" Wilford suddenly called out excitedly.
Laura, Nancy, and the others around James were stunned upon hearing Wilford's words, their faces showing extreme shock.
Reid and Rufus couldn't help but turn their heads to look at James, their eyes filled with confusion.
Because they couldn't understand why Wilford would call someone like James "Mr. Smith."
In fact, not only were they confused, but even James himself couldn't understand how Wilford knew him!
"Have we met before?" James asked Wilford with a frown.
"No, but I'm a good friend of Mr. Wilson. I heard you were here, so I came over specifically." Wilford replied with a smile.
"Mr. Wilson?" James frowned slightly.
"Yes, Charles," Wilford whispered the name.
James finally understood. It turned out that Wilford was neither Charles's subordinate nor someone from his own company. He had just happened to hear that James would be at Conrad's birthday banquet and came over to curry favor.
Wilford's willingness to yield to Conrad was likely because he knew about the relationship between James and Laura, which explained his behavior!
"Oh, I see!" James nodded lightly after understanding the situation.
"Mr. Smith, I came to find you because..." Wilford was about to continue speaking but noticed James stepping on his shoe, so he looked at James in confusion.
James winked at Wilford, signaling him to stop talking. If Wilford continued, James's identity might be exposed.
Wilford, who had managed to reach his current position, was no fool. He understood James's meaning very well, so he quickly shut his mouth and looked at James with a fawning expression.
The people sitting around James were all dumbfounded. Although they didn't know the exact relationship between James and Wilford, they could sense that Wilford wasn't here for Conrad but specifically for James.
Laura glanced at James indifferently, not as surprised as the others. She knew about the relationship between James and Charles. If Wilford wanted something from Charles, it was possible for him to try to please James. Moreover, Wilford had indeed mentioned Charles's name in their conversation.
Rufus, on the other hand, looked at James with a peculiar expression. He had originally thought James was just an ordinary person with no significant background. But Wilford's respectful attitude towards James made Rufus feel something was off!
"What are you doing here? This is where the younger members of The Hall Family sit. My father has already prepared a seat for you." Zachariah hurried over to Wilford and whispered to him.
"I'll sit wherever I want. It's none of your business. I'm talking to Mr. Smith right now. Go do whatever you need to do!" Wilford shouted at Zachariah.
Wilford feared Conrad because he knew Conrad was James's fiancée's grandfather. As for Zachariah, he wasn't as polite.
"Mr. Smith?" Zachariah was stunned upon hearing Wilford's words and looked at James in shock.
"Are you calling him Mr. Smith?" Zachariah pointed at James, his expression incredulous.
"That's right. Go do your thing and don't interrupt my conversation with Mr. Smith!" Wilford pushed Zachariah aside and sat down next to James, smiling at him.
Zachariah looked at Wilford, unsure how to describe his feelings. After hesitating for a moment, he turned to leave.
But just as Zachariah turned, another voice rang out. "Mr. Smith, you're here too! I've finally found you!"
Zachariah paused and looked towards the voice. A middle-aged man in a black suit was hurrying towards James.
"Lucian?" Zachariah shouted in disbelief.
The middle-aged man running towards James was none other than Lucian, the general manager of Evergreen Investment Company and the boss of Thalassa's fiancé, Leander!
Although Lucian was from Lumina City, he had no business dealings with The Hall Family.
Lucian's presence here clearly indicated he was here for James.
Floyd, Conrad, and Kirk also noticed the situation and turned to look at James.
Lucian, panting, reached James and said with a smile, "Mr. Smith, I'm sorry if I'm a bit late."
"What are you doing here?" James asked Lucian, looking rather helpless.
"I heard today is your fiancée's grandfather's birthday, so I came specifically to congratulate him," Lucian explained with a smile.
"Fine." James nodded helplessly and said no more.
He was worried that if he said too much, Lucian might reveal his identity.
But James couldn't understand who had exposed his location. Wilford finding him might have been a coincidence, but Lucian, who had no connection to Wilford, also receiving the news was definitely not a coincidence!
"Well, Mr. Smith, please excuse me for a moment, I still need to wish Mr. Hall a happy birthday. I'll come back to find you later!" Lucian said to James with a smile.
James nodded lightly.
Lucian took out the gift he had prepared and headed towards Conrad. Everyone watched Lucian leave with surprised expressions.
They couldn't believe that someone would come to wish Conrad a happy birthday because of James!
And it wasn't just anyone; it was two well-known bosses from Lumina City, which was beyond everyone's expectations.
"That Lucian should be the head of Evergreen Investment Company, right?" At this moment, Rufus took the initiative to ask James.
