Chapter 379 I Have Evidence!
"But..." Eldon was floored by Laura's words, his face a mix of emotions, not knowing how to respond.
"Mr. Soto, if I remember right, Willard's will has a clause that in special cases, you can handle things at your discretion. So I hope you'll reconsider!" Charles chimed in at this point.
"Reconsider what?"
Matthew jumped up, glaring at Charles and Laura. "What are you two trying to pull? It's clear James broke the will's rules, and now you want to argue about when he revealed his identity? Are you treating Willard's will like a joke?"
"Mr. Edwards, this has nothing to do with you, so shut up!" Charles snapped at Matthew.
"Charles, who do you think you are, telling me to shut up?" Matthew snarled back, his face twisted in anger.
"Matthew, the heir is still me. Golden Peak Group is under my control. Say one more word, and I'll have security throw you out!" James cut in, his tone commanding.
"You two! Fine, you win this round. Just wait until the arbitration is over, and see how I deal with you!" Matthew spat at James and Charles, his teeth clenched.
Charles gave Matthew a cold look, then turned to Eldon. "Mr. Soto, I think Miss Hall is right. Willard didn't want Mr. Smith to reveal his identity to force her into marriage. But if she had already fallen for Mr. Smith, then revealing his identity shouldn't count as breaking the will's rules, right?"
"Charles, stop with the nonsense. How do you know Laura had already fallen for James?" Matthew shouted, clearly agitated.
"Just because she says she loves James, we're supposed to believe her? Who's to say she's not after the inheritance? Who's to say she and James haven't been plotting this all along?"
Eldon, considering Matthew's words, paused and then said softly to Charles, "Mr. Wilson, Mr. Edwards might have a point."
"So here's what we'll do: if Miss Hall can prove that Mr. Smith revealed his identity after she fell for him, we will reconsider this case. But if she can't provide proof, we'll stick to the original arbitration result." Charles turned to Laura.
"That's right. If you can prove that James revealed his identity after you fell for him, I'll agree to the legal team handling this case at their discretion. But if you can't, then stop wasting our time!" Matthew shouted at Laura, looking smug.
He figured that proving when someone fell in love was impossible, so he was sure Laura would lose today.
"Mr. Soto, if I can show proof that James revealed his identity after I fell for him, will you reconsider the arbitration?" Laura asked Eldon softly, biting her lip.
"Yes." Eldon nodded and added, "But Miss Hall, you'll need solid evidence to convince us."
Laura looked deep in thought, clearly conflicted.
"Laura, can you provide evidence or not? If you can't, stop wasting everyone's time!" Matthew shouted, seeing Laura's silence.
Matthew was nervous too, worried that if Laura could actually provide evidence, things would get messy.
Laura slowly looked up at James, bit her lip, and said, "I can provide evidence!"
Matthew was stunned, then stormed over to her, glaring and shouting, "Laura, you can't just say you have evidence. You need to show something real, got it?"
Laura glanced at Matthew, then asked Eldon, "Mr. Soto, if I can, will you restore James's status as an heir?"
"Miss Hall, I don't know what evidence you have, so we need to evaluate it. If Mr. Smith indeed revealed his identity after you fell for him, we'll consider handling this case at our discretion," Eldon replied softly.
"Okay." Laura nodded, then took out her phone and made a call.
The call was answered after a couple of rings.
"Lily, please come to the 38th floor." Laura said, her face expressionless.
"Okay!" Lily replied calmly and hung up.
Matthew, seeing Laura hang up, looked puzzled and shouted, "Laura, what are you up to? Where's your evidence?"
Laura shot Matthew a cold glance, not saying a word.
"Mr. Soto, I think these people are just stalling. How could she have evidence to prove this? I request you to announce the arbitration result now!" Matthew shouted at Eldon.
"Mr. Edwards, we always rely on evidence. Since Miss Hall claims she has evidence, we must give her the chance to present it. If you're in a hurry, you can leave now, and we'll notify you of the result later." Eldon replied, his face expressionless.
Matthew, hearing this, glared at Eldon. He couldn't believe these people were siding with James.
He couldn't understand why Charles, Eldon, and others would risk offending him to protect James. If James's heir status was revoked today, the inheritance would go to him.
And Matthew would become the boss of Eldon and Charles. Offending their future boss for a poor guy didn't seem smart. Charles and Eldon should know this, so why were they doing it?
While Matthew was puzzled, the elevator doors opened again.
Lily, in high heels, gracefully walked out of the elevator and approached Laura.
