Chapter 380 Lily's Arrival
"Lily, you're here! Sorry for the trouble!" Laura turned her head and called out to Lily.
"It's okay!" Lily smiled warmly.
"Mr. Soto, Lily is my witness. She can prove that I fell for James before he revealed his identity!" Laura looked at Eldon and said.
Eldon was taken aback and then turned to Lily, asking gently, "Lily, do you have any proof that Miss Hall liked Mr. Smith before he revealed who he really was?"
Hearing this, Lily instinctively glanced at Laura.
"Lily, don't worry about me. Just say what you need to say!" Laura whispered.
"Alright!"
Lily nodded slightly at Laura's words, then looked at Eldon and the others and said, "Here's what happened: back in Willowbrook, James confessed to Laura, wanting her to be his real girlfriend. But Laura was hesitant about whether to accept him. Later, Laura called me and explained her dilemma. I could tell that Laura already liked James at that time, but she was just unsure about accepting him so quickly. After my persuasion, Laura decided to accept James's confession before we left Willowbrook and be with him. So, I'm very sure that Laura already liked James at that time!"
James was stunned by Lily's words, looking at Laura in disbelief.
He never expected that Laura had already decided in her heart to be with him!
This was also why Laura had been reluctant to come and help.
Because as soon as Laura appeared here, she would have to admit that she had already liked James.
And after knowing that James had been deceiving her, Laura didn't want to admit these things, especially not in front of James. She felt like a fool being tricked.
Eldon was silent for two seconds after hearing Lily's words, then turned to Laura and asked, "Miss Hall, is what Lily said true?"
A hint of hesitation flashed in Laura's eyes. She then glanced at James and said softly, "Yes, it's true. I had indeed decided to be with James, but later events changed my mind, so I didn't accept James."
"Impossible! You must all be in cahoots! How could it be such a coincidence that James revealed his identity to you, and you just happened to say you already liked him?" Matthew couldn't help but shout after hearing Laura's words.
"Mr. Edwards, please do not interfere with our work!" Eldon snapped at Matthew, then looked at Lily and asked, "Lily, can you tell us the exact time of your call with Miss Hall?"
"It was on the day before James's incident!"Lily answered without hesitation.
"Do you have any proof that you talked about these things with Miss Hall?" Eldon pressed.
Lily took out her phone and said softly, "At 10 PM, I talked to Laura about this. You can check the call log on my phone."
Eldon took Lily's phone, examined it carefully, and then handed it to the other lawyers on the team.
After a moment, Eldon returned the phone to Lily and asked, "Lily, besides this call log, do you have any other evidence?"
"Other evidence?" Lily was taken aback by Eldon's question, then shook her head and said, "Mr. Soto, I don't usually record my calls, so I don't have any other evidence."
Eldon nodded at Lily and said firmly, "Since you don't have any other evidence, we can't determine whether what you said is true or false. Although we confirmed your call with Miss Hall, no one can be sure of the call's content."
"Mr. Soto, what do you mean by that?" Laura was taken aback and asked Eldon excitedly.
"Don't you get it? It's simple. You did call each other, but who can prove what you talked about? Unless you can provide a recording of the call, your evidence is useless. After all, words alone aren't enough, right?" Matthew shouted at Lily and Laura with a smug tone.
Both girls were shocked by this. Laura had called Lily without thinking of recording it as evidence!
A hint of anxiety flashed in Laura's eyes, and she didn't know what to do.
Lily looked equally lost.
James saw Laura and Lily getting anxious over this matter, while he could only sit on the side, unable to say a word. A strong sense of frustration welled up inside him.
Sometimes James felt he was too useless. If he hadn't inherited this fortune, he might have spent his life as a delivery guy, drifting aimlessly.
"Mr. Soto, since they can't provide evidence, let's announce the result. There's no need to waste more time."
Matthew sat on the couch, looking very relaxed, as if he had already won.
"Are you sure you don't have any other evidence? If you have chat records, those would work too." Eldon asked Laura and Lily softly.
Laura shook her head in despair and said, "We only talked on the phone, so there are no chat records."
"If you can't find chat records, we won't change the arbitration result for Mr. Smith." Eldon replied calmly, then stood up to announce the result.
