Chapter 247 Thalassa's Fiancé
Laura spotted the bus rolling in and quickly stashed her phone, knowing James should be on it.
Thalassa and Elowen noticed Laura's sudden move and looked confused. "Laura, what's wrong?" Thalassa asked.
"James should be on this bus, no need to call," Laura said, pointing at the bus with a blank expression.
"Your fiancé's actually taking this beat-up bus?" Thalassa looked shocked and asked, clearly puzzled.
"So what? Is that a problem?" Laura shot back, catching Thalassa's drift and responding coolly.
"Of course not, just didn't expect him to be so thrifty, taking a bus instead of driving," Thalassa smirked, her eyes full of disdain.
"Laura, you're kidding, right? Your fiancé's taking a bus? Doesn't he have a car?" Elowen chimed in.
"No, James doesn't have a car," Laura said casually, having anticipated their remarks and not caring anymore.
Dorian, standing nearby, couldn't help but sneer. He was there to see Laura embarrassed, but since James hadn't shown up yet, it was too soon to mock her just over a bus.
Dorian was smart; he knew some rich folks liked to keep a low profile. What if James was one of those heirs who just didn't like driving?
If he mocked Laura now and it turned out James was loaded, it would backfire. So, Dorian decided to wait and see.
Soon, the bus pulled up and stopped at the station.
"What a junky bus, shaking all the way and so noisy. Is this a pig transport?" Thalassa said, stepping back with a look of disgust.
Elowen and Dorian also stepped aside.
Only Laura stayed put, waiting quietly for James to get off the old bus.
With a screech of brakes, the bus wobbled to a stop.
"Willowbrook! Get off if this is you!" the bus driver shouted.
The passengers inside stayed put, as folks in Willowbrook were wealthy and wouldn't take such a bus home.
Only James stood up and slowly got off the bus under the surprised gazes of the others.
"James!" Laura waved excitedly when she saw him.
Dorian, Thalassa, and Elowen all turned to look at James, puzzled.
"Laura!" James shouted back, looking just as excited. He hadn't seen Laura in over half a month, and seeing her again made him really happy.
But James also noticed Thalassa and Elowen standing behind Laura, and their expressions were a bit off.
"Thalassa, why doesn't Laura's fiancé look like a rich kid?" Elowen scrutinized James and turned to Thalassa.
Even though James was wearing a new outfit today, it was nothing compared to the high-end brands Thalassa and Elowen were used to.
In their eyes, a rich kid would at least be decked out in designer labels.
But James's casual outfit looked pretty shabby.
Thalassa replied with disdain, "Laura's fiancé is just a poor loser. Have you ever seen a rich kid wear such clothes?"
"But everyone says Laura's fiancé is impressive, even the CEO of Golden Peak Investment Company respects him," Elowen said lightly.
"So, what? It doesn't mean he's a rich kid," Thalassa sneered.
Elowen blinked, then pouted and murmured, "Why would Laura choose someone like him as her fiancé? I really don't get what she's thinking!"
Thalassa watched James chatting with Laura, feeling secretly pleased because she finally had a chance to put Laura down.
"You must be tired after a two-hour bus ride. I've already booked a hotel for you. Shall I take you there now?" Laura asked James with a smile.
"Sure!" James nodded.
The Hall Family didn't have enough rooms for everyone. Only the elders stayed at the family mansion, while the younger ones were put up in hotels because many members of The Hall Family would return to Willowbrook, not just Laura's parents' relatives but also Laura's grandfather's siblings.
"Laura, why are you in such a hurry to leave? You haven't introduced your fiancé to us yet," Dorian suddenly shouted mockingly.
Dorian had already suspected James's identity when he saw him take the bus, but he kept quiet.
Now, seeing James's outfit, Dorian was sure James wasn't a rich kid, so he naturally wanted to mock him.
Laura turned and gave Dorian a cold look, then said expressionlessly, "Why should I introduce my fiancé to you?" Laura knew what Dorian was up to, so she replied in an annoyed tone.
"Laura, I think you're not unwilling to introduce him but afraid to, right?" Dorian said with a playful smile.
Laura glanced at Dorian and ignored him, pulling James to leave.
"Laura, don't rush off! Thalassa's fiancé will pass by here soon. Let's wait together!" Elowen suddenly shouted.
