Chapter 52 Linda's Misunderstanding
"James, your evidence is so weak! Many people carry the name Smith. Would you believe everyone who has Smith in their name is SuperSmith?" Linda rolled her eyes, clearly not convinced by his explanation.
James was at a loss. He chuckled helplessly and continued, "Well, even if you don't believe I am SuperSmith, I know for sure that the person you're meeting tomorrow is a sham. No matter what, you cannot meet with him!"
"Why do you claim he's a sham? He added me on Facebook using SuperSmith's account, so he is SuperSmith!" Linda retorted in a somewhat displeased tone.
"I don't care how he added you on Facebook, but you absolutely cannot meet with him tomorrow!" James, now disheartened, stood his ground firmly.
"James, whether or not I meet him has nothing to do with you. You're being presumptuous!" Linda's tone grew more agitated.
James felt as though a knife had stabbed deep into his heart. Everything he did was for Linda's well-being, yet in her eyes, he had become a meddler.
James foolishly gazed at Linda before him, unsure of how to describe his feelings at that moment. He never imagined that his actions, meant to protect Linda, would be perceived as arrogance.
"James, I understand your thoughts. Because you’re jealous of my meeting with SuperSmith, so you made up this story to dissuade me from meeting him. Isn’t it?" Provoked by James' words earlier, Linda couldn't tolerate anyone tarnishing SuperSmith. She began to grow cold towards James as well.
"I never said I liked you." With Linda's statement, James felt completely shattered.
Despite Linda's high attractiveness and alluring figure, James had never entertained thoughts beyond considering her a roommate. Even when he sent gifts during Linda's livestreams, it was out of friendship, nothing more.
"Do you still deny it?" Linda sneered, then continued, "James, I suggest you not get ahead of yourself. Though I've been visiting you often in recent days, I merely see you as a regular flatmate. I used to hold a good opinion of you, but your recent words have disappointed me!"
James, looking at Linda in resignation, abandoned the idea of dissuading her from meeting the fake SuperSmith. In Linda's eyes, he had become an unworthy individual. If she fell for a deception, it was no longer his concern.
"If you don't believe me, then there's nothing more I can do. If you wish to meet him, then go ahead!" James stated dejectedly to Linda.
Linda paused momentarily and then turned to walk out of the room.
James watched Linda's departing figure, feeling utterly helpless.
Initially, his intention behind gifting Linda was to help her, never anticipating the ensuing complications.
The conversation with Linda had wounded James, leading him to let go of the situation. Closing the door behind him, James lay on his bed, closed his eyes, ready to sleep.
Despite now being quite wealthy, the real anguish James felt was due to Linda's attitude towards him that day.
"I suppose in Linda's eyes, a lowly guy like me isn't fit to be her friend or even someone she could like," James murmured.
While James had never harbored romantic feelings for Linda, her words still weighed heavily on his heart. He believed that any woman aware of his status would be eager to engage with him. On the contrary, those unaware would likely show disdain. Linda was no different, neither was Laura.
"In this era, money is everything," James bitterly chuckled before closing his eyes, opting to push thoughts of Linda aside.
At 8:00 AM the next day.
After freshening up, James prepared to head to school. When he opened his door, he saw Linda stepping out of her room.
Today, Linda looked especially alluring in a tube top, accentuating her bosom, with a silver necklace adorning her sexy collarbones.
Her miniskirt showcased her enticing figure, complemented by black high heels, creating an overwhelmingly captivating presence.
At the sight of Linda's stunning attire, James couldn't help but pause, knowing she must be going to meet the fake SuperSmith.
Feeling dejected, James chose not to engage with Linda, walking away silently.
"James!" At that moment, Linda suddenly called out.
James turned to glance at Linda, his expression neutral. "Is there something you need?"
"About last night, I apologize. I got carried away and said some inappropriate things to you." Linda, in seductive high heels, approached James.
"It's fine," James replied nonchalantly, choosing not to dissuade Linda from meeting the fake SuperSmith, and continued on his way out.
