Chapter 127 Donna's Rescue
"What do you mean by that?"
Elbert looked at James, stunned for a moment.
James looked at Elbert without saying a word.
"Mr. Turner, I think James is definitely feeling guilty right now, which is why he doesn't dare to let you search him. James is the thief!" Elbert shouted excitedly at Louis.
Louis hesitated for a moment, then whispered to Janet, "Teacher Carter, you see the situation now. Since both Elbert and James are suspects, I think the best way is to search both of them!"
"Mr. Turner, conducting a search on someone without their consent is illegal. It's crucial that you carefully consider your actions!" Janet replied softly.
"Well..."
Louis seemed a bit troubled after hearing this because he knew very well that searching someone without James's consent was illegal.
"Mr. Turner, how about this? I'll search for James, and if I don't find anything, then James can search for me!"
Seeing things had come to this point, Elbert was naturally unwilling to give up easily and shouted excitedly.
"I think that's a good idea. Go ahead and search, James!"
Louis immediately agreed to Elbert's suggestion.
Ultimately, if James and Elbert were to search each other, even if James turned out to not be the thief, it would have no consequences for him, while Elbert would bear the responsibility.
Elbert walked directly towards James, but instead of searching James's clothes, he headed towards James's desk.
It was obvious that Elbert had hidden the money in James's desk earlier.
James also noticed this and said softly, "You guys really went to great lengths to frame me!"
"What nonsense are you talking about? No one is framing you!" Elbert sneered.
"Remember this: in an hour, you'll pay for what you're doing now!"
James showed no signs of nervousness. Instead, he was very calm.
Because, in James's view, Elbert's methods were too crude. A super-rich second-generation heir with ten trillion dollars wouldn't steal money.
Elbert, on the other hand, was very smug because he knew that if he found the money on James's desk, James would have no chance to clear his name.
The entire classroom fell silent, with only the sound of Elbert's footsteps.
Michael and Jennifer smiled smugly as they saw Elbert walking towards James's desk.
Ashley, however, was a bit nervous.
But the most nervous was Donna!
Donna also realized that something was off today. Elbert was so sure that James was the thief.
This indicated two possibilities: either James was indeed the thief, or James was being framed by Elbert.
At this moment, Donna suddenly stood up and shouted, "Stop searching!"
Everyone turned to look at her, and Elbert stopped in his tracks, looking puzzled.
"I just remembered, the money wasn't lost. I deposited it in the bank. I was so anxious earlier that I forgot."
Donna lied, nervously clutching her clothes.
Donna's actions were clearly to protect James. Although she didn't know if James had stolen the class funds, if Elbert found the money in James's desk, James would definitely be labeled a thief and might even be expelled from school.
So, Donna would rather take the blame herself than see James expelled.
"Donna, what are you talking about?" Janet asked in confusion after hearing Donna's words.
"Teacher Carter, the money wasn't lost. I deposited it,"
Donna stammered.
"Impossible!" Elbert shouted excitedly. During gym class, he had personally hidden the class funds in James's desk.
But now Donna was saying the money wasn't lost, which he couldn't believe.
Seeing Elbert's reaction, Donna felt something was wrong and asked directly, "How do you know it's impossible?"
"None of your business, how I know! Anyway, you couldn't have forgotten something so important!"
Elbert was suddenly stumped by Donna's question and replied incoherently.
"Donna, you said you deposited the class funds in the bank, right?"
Jennifer stood up and asked Donna.
"Yes!"
Donna nodded slightly.
"But you just said that after gym class, you came straight back to the classroom. When did you deposit the money? And where is the bank? Do you have a receipt?"
Jennifer's series of questions left Donna speechless.
Donna stood there dumbfounded, not knowing how to answer.
"If you really deposited the money in the bank, it's fine. Just take us to the bank to withdraw it. If we can withdraw the money, we'll believe you made a mistake. But if we can't, can I suspect that you and James conspired to steal the money?"
Jennifer shouted sharply.
"I..."
Donna was so anxious that she didn't know what to say, tears streaming down her face again.
"Donna, you don't need to explain. If they want to search, just do it!" At this moment, James suddenly spoke.
James was aware that Donna was attempting to protect him, so he couldn't bear witnessing her being bullied.
"James, you asked for it!"
Elbert sneered, then walked to James's desk and started searching.
Soon, he found a pink wallet under the desk.
Elbert threw the wallet on the desk and shouted, "James, explain what this is!"
The classroom descended into chaos as the students witnessed Elbert discovering the wallet on James's desk.
Although the classmates had suspected James was the thief, they were still shocked to confirm it.
"James is the thief!"
"Yeah, James is disgusting. He seemed poor but honest, but he's actually like this!"
"I suspected James was the thief. Otherwise, how could he have so much money to treat us to dinner?"
The students started discussing.
Paul and Tyler looked at James, extremely shocked, unable to believe he had done such a thing.
Donna and Janet were also stunned.
