Chapter 37 A Phone Call

"Mr. Jackson, isn't Moonlight Garden supposed to be operating on a membership basis?"

"If you asked him to show you his membership card, you'd quickly find out if he really is a patron of the restaurant."

Michael continued to speak.

"Exactly!"

Upon hearing Michael's words, Mr. Jackson suddenly realized the situation.

Hastening forward, he faced James expressionless and said, "Sir, kindly present the membership card of our establishment!"

James shook his head at Mr. Jackson and calmly replied, "I don't have a membership card."

A murmur spread through the crowd upon hearing this!

With that statement, James inadvertently implied that he wasn't there to dine.

If he wasn't there to eat, then James' purpose was clear to everyone.

At that moment, Jennifer looked at James with disdain, her face showing an air of smugness.

"James, do you think winning the lottery can change the fact that you are a loser? Moonlight Garden isn't a place for someone like you to visit."

Jennifer couldn't help but sneer inwardly.

Meanwhile, Michael's face bore an excited, sinister grin as he stared coldly at James.

This was precisely the effect he wanted, a few casual words enough to crush James underfoot.

The rags-to-riches tale of a loser becoming a rich man was just a fairy tale.

Indeed, the petite beauty felt the most elated at the moment. When Mr. Jackson had demanded evidence from her earlier, she had almost given up hope.

But Michael and Jennifer had come to her aid.

Finally, she had a chance to reclaim what James had taken advantage of her before.

As she watched James surrounded by the crowd, the professional woman's eyes flashed with a hint of pity.

She felt that her cousin, Jennifer, Michael, and the others had gone too far. Even if James wasn't there to dine, he shouldn't be humiliated like this.

Such an act was a blatant trampling of a man's dignity.

"Young man, if you're not here to dine at our establishment, what business do you have here?"

Mr. Jackson's voice turned icy as he directed the question at James.

"Are you implying that one must possess a membership card to dine in your restaurant?"

James countered with a blank expression.

"Of course! Moonlight Garden has always operated on a membership basis. You cannot dine here without a membership card!" Mr. Jackson raised his voice.

"I was invited here for a meal." James spoke dispassionately.

"Invited by whom?" Upon hearing this, Mr. Jackson couldn't help but pause.

"Yes!" James nodded.

"No one would invite a beggar like you to dine here. James, it's already clear. You're lying right now." Jennifer sneered coldly.

"What are you all waiting for? I suspect this boy has come to steal from our restaurant. Hurry up and arrest him!" Mr. Jackson roared angrily, turning to the security guards behind him.

"Wait!" The professional woman hurriedly called out as she saw the guards preparing to act.

Mr. Jackson couldn't help but turn his head to where the professional woman was standing, a hint of puzzlement in his eyes.

Stepping elegantly on her heels, the professional woman approached James quietly and said. "James, as I mentioned before, if you kneel down and apologize to me, I will intervene on your behalf and ask Mr. Jackson to let you go."

"I will not apologize to you."

James looked at the professional woman coldly, refusing to show any respect.

"In that case, you can await your fate!"

The professional woman coldly chuckled, a hint of displeasure in her eyes.

The eight security guards saw the professional woman leaving and rushed towards James.

Seeing this scene, Jennifer and Michael's faces immediately twisted into sinister smiles.

However, the professional woman furrowed her brow, wanting to speak up for James, but hesitating due to her cousin's assertive nature. After a moment of contemplation, she decided not to intervene immediately and planned to speak with Mr. Jackson later to ensure James wasn't in any distress.

As the onlookers anticipated James' downfall, his phone suddenly rang.

James took out his phone and saw that it was a call from Charles.

He quickly answered the phone, leaving the onlookers were left speechless.

In this situation, shouldn't he be explaining things to Mr. Jackson instead of taking a call?

The onlookers couldn't fathom what was going through James' mind at that moment.

"James, have you arrived at Moonlight Garden yet?" Charles asked with a smile.

"I have, but the manager of this restaurant is trying to evict me, and he won't listen to my explanations," James replied helplessly.

"Such a situation? James, I apologize deeply; this may be due to my lack of clarity. Please, pass the phone to Mr. Jackson; I'll talk to him!" There was a hint of irritation in Charles' tone.

"Alright."

James nodded slightly and handed the phone directly to Mr. Jackson, saying calmly, "Someone wants to talk to you."

"Who is this?"

A baffled Mr. Jackson picked up the phone and asked softly, "Hello, who is this?"

"Mark Jackson, can you tell me, what on earth are you up to?" Charles' voice was filled with extreme anger.

"Mr. Wilsons."

Upon hearing Charles' voice, Mr. Jackson's voice trembled with fear.

"Mark, find a place where no one around and talk to me right now!" Charles spoke in a low voice.

"Alright."

Mark hastily agreed and then walked away towards a secluded area.

Charles knew that James couldn't reveal his identity yet, so he specifically had Mark leave.
