Chapter 234 I'm Going to Compete Fairly with You for Laura!
"Are you super rich?" Laura blinked, a bit taken aback by James's question, her eyes showing a hint of confusion.
"Yeah, like, if I were some crazy rich heir with more money than I could ever spend, how would you react?" James repeated, this time with a playful grin.
James was testing the waters, trying to see how Laura would react if she knew his real identity.
"Why are you asking me that?" Laura asked, still puzzled.
"Oh, nothing. Just curious!" James replied with a smile.
"If you were some rich heir, that would mean you've been lying to me this whole time. I definitely wouldn't forgive you!" Laura said, dead serious.
James was taken aback by her response.
He didn't expect her to be so blunt. Usually, if a guy pretended to be rich and got caught, the girl would dump him. But if a rich guy pretended to be poor and then revealed the truth, the girl usually stuck around, surprised but happy. However, Laura's answer was different. Even if James was loaded, she wouldn't forgive him for lying.
James found it hard to believe.
"So, if I really were a rich heir, you'd still break up with me?" James asked, looking at her intently.
"Yes. I don't care if you're rich or not. If you lie to me, I won't forgive you!" Laura said firmly.
James's face fell. He couldn't keep his true identity hidden from her forever.
If she found out he'd been lying, things could get messy.
James started to worry about how he'd explain everything to her in the future.
"Are you really a rich heir?" Laura asked softly after a moment of hesitation.
"Do I look like one?" James replied with a smile.
"When you called Charles to our company, I did wonder about your identity. Not just anyone can get someone like Charles. But then I thought, you probably weren't rich. If you were, you wouldn't be asking me for living expenses every month!" Laura said slowly.
James just smiled faintly, not saying much.
All he could think about was how to explain everything to her later.
Seeing him stay quiet, Laura thought she might've hurt his feelings, so she quickly changed the subject. "If you don't want to work at my company, I can give you some money to start something on your own!"
"No need. I think working at your company is great. I'll help you run Felia Company!" James said, looking at her.
"Okay!" Laura nodded quickly and started eating.
James watched her with a soft expression. It hit him then—he might really be in love with Laura!
When he first met her, he just thought she was beautiful and didn't have any real feelings. He wanted to marry her just to secure his inheritance.
So, he kept his distance from other women.
But seeing how Laura was acting now, James felt a bit on edge. He had no clue how he'd explain everything to her later.
Time flew by, and before they knew it, half an hour had passed.
After finishing their meal, Laura and James left the restaurant.
James had a nerve-wracking meal. First, Sylvie's sudden appearance freaked him out, and then Laura's words left him deeply worried.
But then James thought it over and realized he couldn't spill the beans to Laura just yet, so stressing about it was pointless.
When the time came, he would figure out a way to handle it.
After leaving Dawnlight Square, James drove Laura back to her company and then took off on his own.
Once he left Laura's company, James instinctively pulled out his phone. Seeing it reminded him of the Facebook message Sylvie had sent him.
The message was short and sweet:
Sylvie: [James, I'm going to compete fairly with you for Laura!]
James had no idea what Sylvie meant by that. After a moment of hesitation, he decided to call her.
The phone rang twice before Sylvie picked up.
"Hello?" Sylvie's sultry voice came through.
"What do you mean by that message?" James asked, frowning in confusion.
"What else could it mean? Just what it says!" Sylvie replied calmly.
"Compete with me for Laura? What are you up to?" James shouted, irritated. Sylvie's actions always left him baffled.
"Did you forget who I am?" Sylvie said with a smile.
"Who are you?" James asked, stunned.
"Did you forget that I'm a lesbian?" Sylvie said with a playful laugh.
"You!" Hearing Sylvie's words, James suddenly got it.
Sylvie wanted to compete with him for Laura because she liked Laura!
"Can you stop messing with me? Isn't your lesbian thing just a lie to fend off suitors?" James shouted helplessly into the phone.
"Who said I'm not a lesbian?" Sylvie chuckled and continued, "James, let me be straight with you. I'm actually bisexual. Sometimes I like men, sometimes I like women. And right now, I'm into your fiancée. What do you think I should do?"
"If you like her, go ahead and try. Laura won't be with you anyway!" James couldn't figure out what Sylvie was playing at, so he replied impatiently and was about to hang up.
"Aren't you afraid I'll harass your fiancée?" Sylvie didn't expect James to be so nonchalant and quickly asked.
"Do whatever you want!" James shouted helplessly and then hung up.
He figured Sylvie was just messing with him. Even though she always claimed to be a lesbian, from what James had seen, Sylvie seemed pretty normal and didn't act like one at all.
And even if Sylvie were a lesbian, Laura wasn't, so James wasn't worried about Sylvie stealing her away.
On the other end, Sylvie's face showed a trace of anger as she saw James hang up on her. Pouting, she muttered, "Alright, James, just wait. Even if I don't steal Laura, I won't let you two have it easy!"
