Chapter 206 A Call from Sylvie

Ten minutes later.

Sandra and Jennifer walked out of the restaurant, each lugging a big backpack. They flagged down a cab and headed straight to Summit Bank.

After they deposited the cash, Jennifer looked at her bank card with a grin that screamed satisfaction.

She turned to Sandra and said, "Lily, you can't tell anyone about today, especially not anyone from school, okay?"

"Got it..." Sandra nodded, looking a bit uneasy.

"You're the only one who knows how loaded I am. Keep my secret, and I'll make sure you're taken care of!" Jennifer added, giving Sandra a knowing look.

"Okay!" Sandra nodded again.

"By the way, know any cool spots in Lumina City? Now that I'm rolling in dough, I gotta live it up!" Jennifer asked, her excitement bubbling over.

"Cool spots?" Sandra was caught off guard but then said softly, "Jennifer, I know a really exclusive place where only the rich go. Wanna check it out?"

"Absolutely! I love hanging out where the rich folks are. No interest in places packed with poor people!" Jennifer quickly agreed.

Sandra shot Jennifer a look that was hard to read but eventually flagged down another cab, and they both hopped in.

Meanwhile, Craig drove James to the front of Felia Company.

James needed to clear things up with Laura, and the situation with Jennifer was a bit messy.

So, James told Craig and the others to take off and went in alone.

As soon as James walked in, the receptionist recognized him right away.

After all, James was Laura's fiancé and had brought in new investors for the company. The receptionist quickly approached him.

"Mr. Smith, you're here?" she greeted him with a respectful tone and a smile.

"Yeah, is Miss Hall in?" James asked casually.

"Mr. Smith, I'm sorry, Miss Hall is on a business trip today!" the receptionist replied softly.

"On a business trip?" James was taken aback and asked, "Do you know when she'll be back?"

"Miss Hall will be gone for two days and should be back the day after tomorrow," the receptionist said after thinking for a moment.

James hesitated for a couple of seconds and then said reluctantly, "Alright, I'll come back then."

"Mr. Smith, is it urgent? If it is, you can call Miss Hall first!" the receptionist suggested gently.

"No need, it's not that urgent." James waved his hand and turned to leave.

James actually wanted to call Laura to explain, but she wasn't picking up his calls, so he had no choice but to show up in person.

The receptionist watched James leave, scratching her head.

She couldn't wrap her mind around why James, supposedly Laura's fiancé, acted like they were strangers. He didn't even know she was on a business trip.

After leaving Laura's company, James stood by the road and tried calling her again.

But Laura still didn't pick up, probably still fuming at him.

"Forget it, I'll let her cool off while she's away. I'll explain when she gets back." James sighed, pocketed his phone, and was about to hail a cab home.

Just then, his phone rang.

Thinking it was Laura, he quickly answered without checking the caller ID.

"Laura?"

"Nope, it's Sylvie!"

Before James could finish, Sylvie's voice came through the phone.

"Why is it you?" James's tone instantly dropped, clearly disappointed.

"What? Not happy to hear from me? Do you know how many guys at our school are after me? You should feel honored I'm calling you!" Sylvie said, sounding a bit annoyed.

"What does that have to do with me?" James, already irritated by the situation with Laura, snapped back.

"Forget it. Come to Aurora Bar; I'm drunk and need a ride!" Sylvie said, trying to stay calm.

"I'm busy!" James shot back without thinking.

"What did you say?" Sylvie shouted, clearly ticked off.

"I'm not your chauffeur. Why do you always ask me to drive you? Find someone else; I'm in a bad mood!" James explained coldly.

"Don't you know how to take care of a woman? Do you know how many stories there are about drivers assaulting female passengers? I'm so pretty and have such a hot body. What if one of those drivers gets the wrong idea and does something terrible to me?" Sylvie said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Aren't you afraid I might get the wrong idea?" James paused and replied playfully.

"I'm not worried about you because you don't have the guts!" Sylvie said with a smirk.

"Sylvie, if that's the case, I'm definitely not coming. Find your own way home!" James felt Sylvie was clearly underestimating him and shouted, a bit agitated.

"How could you be so heartless? I helped you a lot today, remember? Are you really going to let a beautiful girl like me fall into the hands of some scumbag?" Sylvie shouted back.

"You..." James softened a bit and said quietly, "Alright, since you helped me, I'll help you this time."

"I knew you were the best. Hurry up and come over!" Sylvie said happily and hung up.

"She knows she's an influencer but still drinks all the time. No wonder she gets into trouble!" James muttered with a stern face after the call ended, then hailed a cab and headed to Aurora Bar.
