Chapter 143 Jessica's Temptation
Cynthia picked up her phone and saw that it was Janet calling, so she quickly answered.
"Cynthia, has my student arrived at the bar?" Janet asked with a cheerful tone.
"He's already here. I've arranged all the work for him. Don't worry, I'll take good care of anyone you recommend!" Cynthia replied softly.
"That's good. James is actually quite unfortunate. He lost his parents during elementary school and has been relying on work-study programs to continue his education. So, please make sure to take good care of him, alright?" Janet said slowly.
"Is James really that pitiful?"
Cynthia thought about how she had treated James before and suddenly felt a bit guilty.
After all, it wasn't because James had taken advantage of her in the taxi that she treated him so poorly.
Cynthia found herself in a sour mood due to the pressure from her parents, who were insisting on her getting married. Unfortunately, she ended up venting her frustration on James.
"Yeah, today James was even mistaken for a thief!" Janet replied softly.
Cynthia absentmindedly responded.
"Cynthia, you don't seem to be in a good mood. Did something happen?"
Janet noticed Cynthia's unusual behavior and asked with concern.
"It's still about that blind date. My parents keep pushing me to get engaged to him. I really don't know what they're thinking!" Cynthia replied weakly, her head hanging low.
"I can't help you with that. You'll have to figure it out yourself!"
Janet knew a bit about Cynthia being pressured into marriage, but as an outsider, she didn't want to interfere in someone else's family matters.
"If only I had a boyfriend right now, I could confidently tell my parents I don't want to marry that jerk!" Cynthia pouted.
"But you think all men are dirty! Of course, you won't have a boyfriend!" Janet chuckled.
Cynthia sighed helplessly, not knowing what to do.
Meanwhile, James followed Jessica to the bar's dressing room after leaving the office.
In their brief interaction, James found that Jessica was not only flirtatious in appearance but also in behavior. She often used her body to touch James's arm and occasionally teased him with her words.
If it were the previous James, he might have been completely defenseless when faced with a woman like Jessica.
Although Jessica wasn't particularly pretty, she had a very hot body, which was quite tempting for a virgin like James.
But now, having seen many beautiful women, whether it was Laura, Pamela, or Sarah, any one of them was more attractive than Jessica. So, James naturally had no interest in Jessica.
Once James had changed into his work uniform, he trailed behind Jessica to the front desk of the bar. She provided a brief introduction to a few employees before he commenced his duties.
Since James had previously worked part-time in a bar, he was familiar with the work and quickly got into the groove.
Just as Cynthia finished her call with Janet, she walked out of the office and saw James working hard.
Cynthia nodded in satisfaction and walked towards James, intending to praise him.
However, as they took a few steps, she abruptly halted, a peculiar expression flickering in her once lifeless eyes.
Cynthia thought about what her mother had said to her before and what Janet had told her about James's background.
A bold idea suddenly popped into Cynthia's mind.
"If that's the case, then I won't have to get engaged to that jerk!"
Standing by the second-floor railing, Cynthia struck a seductive pose and stared intently at James, who was working hard.
"James seems to be cleaner than other men."
After a moment, Cynthia took a deep breath and solidified her plan in her mind.
Cynthia walked downstairs, swaying in her high heels.
James heard the footsteps and instinctively looked behind him.
"Hello, Ms. Phillips, !"
Seeing that it was Cynthia, James greeted her politely.
"You don't have to be so formal with me. Just call me Sister Cynthia!" Cynthia said, looking at James with a faint smile.
James was puzzled by Cynthia's words and thought to himself, "Women are really hard to understand! She was cold to me just a moment ago, and now she wants me to call her sister."
Cynthia looked James up and down and asked thoughtfully, "James, are you getting used to the work environment here?"
"Yes, I am!"
James quickly nodded.
"That's good. I heard from Janet that you've been working part-time to support yourself, right?" Cynthia continued.
"Yes, my parents passed away when I was in elementary school. I've been supporting myself by working," James said slowly.
"I didn't realize you were so impressive!" Cynthia smiled faintly at James and continued, "I just talked to Janet. Originally, your wage was twenty dollars an hour, but I'm raising it to fifty dollars an hour. Just do your best here!"
James looked at Cynthia, his eyes filled with confusion once again.
He couldn't fathom the reason behind Cynthia's sudden kindness towards him. Not only did she speak to him warmly, but she also surprised him with a raise.
"James, Mr. Phillips said he's giving you a raise. Why are you just standing there? Hurry up and thank Mr. Phillips."
At that moment, Jessica walked up to James and called out with a smile.
"Thank you, Cynthia!"
James quickly responded.
Actually, James wasn't very interested in the raise. He didn't really need the money. What truly intrigued him was why Cynthia's attitude towards him had changed so drastically.
Seeing Jessica approach, Cynthia decided not to continue the conversation with James and instead turned to the others, saying, "Everyone, get ready. We're about to open!"
"Yes, Mr. Phillips!"
The other employees quickly responded.
Cynthia gave James a faint look and then walked back upstairs to her office in her high heels.
After Cynthia left, Jessica turned to James and asked softly, "James, what's your relationship with our bar's Mr. Phillips?"
"No relationship at all. We just met today," James replied quietly.
"That's impossible. You must have some connection with Mr. Phillips; otherwise, she wouldn't give only you a raise."
As Jessica spoke, she wrapped her arm around James's and pressed her soft chest against his arm, saying coquettishly, "Tell me the truth, what's your relationship with Mr. Phillips?"
As James caught a glimpse of the fair skin at Jessica's neckline, he couldn't help but blush.
"Say something! What are you looking at?"
Seeing James's shy expression, Jessica tightened her grip on his arm.
"Jessica, I really have no relationship with Mr. Phillips. Let's just get to work!"
James was afraid that if Jessica kept holding him like this, he might lose control and end up having sex with her.
So James quickly pushed Jessica away and turned to walk off.
Watching James's back, Jessica's eyes flashed with heat. She licked her lips and said, "James, you still pretending to be innocent. Just wait, in a few days, I'll have you willingly come to a hotel with me. I refuse to believe I can't handle you."
