Chapter 298 Disappointed Laura
Laura saw Conrad call James outside and wondered what Conrad wanted to say to James.
So, after hesitating for a moment, she quietly went to the back of the villa and eavesdropped on the conversation between James and Conrad.
In her eyes, although Conrad's words were harsh, his intentions were good. He just wanted to keep James by his side and give him an opportunity to grow.
Laura originally thought James would agree without hesitation, but she never expected James to directly reject Conrad's suggestion!
"Laura, what are you doing here?"
James had spoken very firmly earlier, but he never expected Laura to be hiding and eavesdropping from a distance.
"This is my home, why can't I be here?" Laura shouted with her big, watery eyes, then looked at James and continued, "James, do you realize how foolish you're being? If you stay by my grandfather's side, I believe it won't take long for you to become a successful person admired by everyone! But now, because of just one word from you, you've lost such a precious opportunity!"
Laura's mind was filled with only one thought: to persuade James to stay by Conrad's side.
This would be good news for both James and Laura.
But Laura didn't expect James to directly reject Conrad.
James looked at Laura in front of him, not knowing what to say. When facing Conrad, James could be very firm, but when facing Laura, he didn't dare to use the same attitude.
"James, my grandfather is giving you such a great opportunity, why don't you cherish it? Do you know how many people dream of having such an opportunity?"
Laura was also a bit disappointed, shouting at James with an angry expression.
"Laura, I don't want to stay in Willowbrook right now..."
James looked at Laura and replied calmly, then turned and walked towards the villa.
"James, you..." Laura watched James's back, a look of confusion flashing across her face. She opened her mouth to speak, but found that James had already walked away!
"Such ingratitude!" Conrad watched James's departing figure and couldn't help but snort coldly.
"Conrad, I think James might just be confused for a moment. He wasn't like this before, please don't hold it against him!" Laura quickly walked to Conrad's side and said softly.
"Laura, you must have heard what James said to me just now. It's not about whether I give him a chance or not; he's being completely ungrateful!" Conrad said to Laura with a blank expression.
"Conrad..." Laura tried to speak.
Conrad waved his hand to interrupt Laura and continued, "Laura, if James were just poor with no background, I wouldn't mind. After all, not everyone is born with a prestigious family background!"
"But as long as he's willing to stay by my side and work hard, I guarantee that in a few years, he can become a successful person on his own. But unfortunately, this kid is too arrogant. He doesn't even appreciate the opportunity I'm giving him. I'm really curious about what skills he has to make such bold statements!"
Laura stood there, bewildered, looking at Conrad, not knowing what to say.
"Forget it, if this kid is so ungrateful, let him be. It's getting late, Laura, you should go back and rest early!" Conrad waved at Laura and then turned to walk towards the villa.
"What about the Hays Family matter?" Laura quickly asked when she saw Conrad about to leave.
Conrad sighed lightly and said expressionlessly, "No matter what, James is still your fiancé. I won't just stand by and do nothing if something happens to him. I'll handle the Hays Family matter for you, but let me make it clear, James is not suitable for you. Laura, you really should reconsider your relationship with James..."
"I understand!" Laura felt relieved knowing that Conrad would still help James and quickly nodded.
Conrad sighed helplessly and then turned to walk towards the villa.
Laura stood alone by the river, looking at the shimmering water, feeling very puzzled.
Because in Laura's eyes, James was not arrogant; his reaction today was so unusual.
Maybe it was because James's behavior today had disappointed Laura too much, and Laura knew James's character. Once James made up his mind, no matter how much she tried to persuade him, he wouldn't change his mind.
So after everyone left the Hall Family villa, Laura didn't take the initiative to talk to James.
As for Joe and Isolde, they were naturally very dissatisfied with James because he had embarrassed them at the Hall Family villa today.
However, Nancy and Lily were very interested in James and kept asking him why he could play the violin!
James casually brushed off their questions and didn't say much more.
At this moment, he was thinking about how to explain today's events to Laura.
After everyone returned to the hotel, James instinctively followed behind Laura.
After everyone else had gone back, James finally spoke, "Laura, actually, what I said to your grandfather today..."
"You don't need to explain anything to me. You have your own thoughts. If you don't want to stay by my grandfather's side, that's your freedom. I have no right to interfere!"
Before James could finish, Laura coldly interrupted him.
"I just want to explain," James said helplessly.
"What is there to explain? It's late, and we have to attend my grandfather's birthday banquet tomorrow. You should go back and rest!"
After saying this, Laura turned and walked towards her room.
Seeing Laura leave, James stood there and sighed helplessly.
He originally thought that the events in Willowbrook would be enough to change Laura's opinion of him, but he didn't expect things to turn out this way in the end.
