Chapter 289 The Violin Sheet Music
"James, come on. Mr. Hays has shown you so much respect. Just say yes," Dorian said, clearly happy with Irvin's offer, and shouted at James.
"Respect me?" James chuckled and shook his head. "I don't care if he respects me or not. I've already made myself clear. No matter what they offer, I'm not coming!"
Laura, Nancy, and the others stared at James, completely baffled. They couldn't understand why he was being so stubborn.
Irvin had offered him such a sweet deal, yet James still refused. It seemed to be a humiliation.
"Don't push it too far!" Irvin snapped, pointing a finger at James.
"James, what are you doing? Mr. Hays..." Nancy said, looking helpless.
"I don't care how much he offers. I just don't want to work at ArtScape Center. Am I clear with that?" James shouted, then turned to leave.
James was getting really annoyed. He had made it clear he didn't want the job, but Irvin kept pushing, making him uncomfortable.
"I'll ask you one last time, are you coming to work here or not?" Irvin asked, his face darkening.
"No!" James said firmly.
Dorian looked at both James and Irvin, sweating and trembling, unsure of what to say.
"Fine! Just you wait!" Irvin gritted his teeth, then pulled out his phone. "Since you're so arrogant, don't blame me for being rude. If you don't agree to work here today, none of you will leave!"
Laura, Nancy, and the others looked terrified. They could tell Irvin was really angry this time.
"James, stop messing around and say yes. We can't offend Mr. Hays, and the terms he's offering are really good. If you don't agree, who knows what he might do next!" Nancy pleaded with James.
James stayed calm and reached for the door.
Irvin kicked the door shut and shouted, "Didn't you hear what I said? If you don't agree today, none of you will leave here!"
At that moment, Jessa suddenly shouted, "Irvin!"
Irvin turned to her, looking puzzled. "Jessa, don't worry. I'll make this guy agree to work here today, no matter what."
"No need," Jessa said, gently shaking her head. She looked at James and said calmly, "If he doesn't want to work here, there's no point in forcing him. Let him go."
Irvin frowned at James, hesitated for a couple of seconds, then said in a low voice, "Fine!"
He turned and sat back on the sofa, his expression sour, still fuming over James's earlier words.
Laura and Nancy finally sighed in relief. Even though James didn't get the job, at least Irvin was letting them leave, which was a small victory.
James asked Jessa softly, "Can we leave now?"
"You can leave, but I have one condition. If you agree to it, I'll make sure Irvin won't bother you again. Deal?" Jessa said.
Laura's face lit up at Jessa's words. Her biggest worry was that Irvin would cause trouble for James in the future. If James agreed to Jessa's condition, it would be a huge relief.
James wasn't too worried about Irvin causing trouble. To others, the Hays Family might seem untouchable, but to James, they were nothing. A call to Charles could make the Hays Family bow down.
James thought that while he wasn't worried about Irvin's revenge, that didn't mean the Hall family wasn't. If Irvin used the Hays family's power against Laura, James couldn't help directly without exposing his identity.
So James asked Jessa softly, "What's the condition? Just say it."
"My condition is simple. I heard you playing a violin piece downstairs, and it sounded pretty good. But I've never heard anyone else play it. Give me the sheet music for that violin piece, and I'll let you all go," Jessa replied calmly.
Laura's expression relaxed significantly upon hearing Jessa's request. It didn't seem like too much to ask.
The others felt the same way. It was just a piece of violin sheet music, nothing too serious.
But to their surprise, even with such a simple request, James still chose to refuse!
