Chapter 63: Laura's Call
Watching James, Sarah was deeply angry.
After hesitating for a while, Sarah spoke softly, "James, you shouldn't have done this. Since you lack wealth, you shouldn't pretend to be wealthy. You could have just gone back to delivering food honestly."
After hearing Sarah's words, James couldn't help but look at her without saying a word.
Originally, James had intended to add Sarah to Facebook before explaining his situation to her and gauging her reaction. However, it seemed unnecessary now that Jennifer had already probed into the situation.
"This is just so unlucky!" Sarah exclaimed emotionally and then picked up her bag, intending to leave.
"Sarah, please don't go." Evelyn intervened when he noticed Sarah's intention to leave.
"Evelyn, we've been roommates for so many years; you should know my character well. It's okay for you to introduce me to an ordinary person, but to collaborate with him to deceive me..." Sarah angrily exclaimed before walking out of the bar in her high heels.
"Evelyn, what you did in this matter was truly out of line. Even if you had introduced Sarah to a regular guy, she wouldn't have been so upset. But the fact that you introduced James is unacceptable," Lori expressed her anger and then left the bar with Sarah.
Jennifer and the others gleefully smiled and began to celebrate as they watched Sarah and Paul leave the bar.
James looked at Jennifer's smug expression from a distance and felt utterly helpless. He couldn't understand why Jennifer would make things difficult for him after they had already broken up, especially considering the decent treatment he had given her during their relationship.
"Paul, I told you earlier not to bring this person to the bar. Sarah's not going out with a delivery guy. You didn't listen to me, and now look at how things have turned out. Are you satisfied now?" Evelyn scolded Paul in frustration.
Paul stood there helplessly, not anticipating the turn of events.
"Furthermore, James, you're clearly a deliveryman pauper. Stop pretending to be wealthy and seducing women. How foolish!" Evelyn turned to James and inquired.
"You begged me to come over; I never said I wanted to!" James replied coldly.
Upon hearing James' response, Evelyn was left speechless, realizing that it was indeed he who had invited James in the first place.
"You filthy pauper! Prepare to be single for the rest of your life. Disgusting!" Evelyn hurled the words at James before turning to leave as well.
Once the girls left, the booth was left with James, Paul, and Tyler.
Seeing the situation, Tyler hurried over to James and comforted him. "James, no need to be sad. I'll introduce you to someone even more beautiful than Sarah in a couple of days."
"Yeah, I'm really sorry, James. I never thought today's events would end up like this. If I had known, I wouldn't have let Sarah and the others come here," Paul expressed his regret.
"Blame Jennifer, Ashley, and the others. We are all classmates; they shouldn't have made things so difficult for others like this, especially considering James is Jennifer's ex-boyfriend!" Tyler exclaimed, looking at Jennifer and the others angrily.
"Paul, Tyler, you don't have to introduce me to a girlfriend anymore. I already have a fiancée!" James suddenly spoke up.
"What?! James, you have a fiancée?" Paul exclaimed in disbelief.
"Yes." James nodded gently.
"Is what you're saying true? What's your fiancée's name? Is she from the University of Lumina?" Tyler inquired with curiosity.
"My fiancée's name is Laura!" James replied to dispel any further concerns about his marital status.
"Laura?" Tyler was stunned to hear the name, as was Paul.
"Do you know Laura?" James asked softly, seeing their reactions.
"As far as I know, there is a woman named Laura in Lumina City, but she is the daughter of the chairman of Hall International Group. I'm not sure if it's the same Laura you're referring to." Paul hesitated before responding.
"Paul, what nonsense are you talking about? If James' fiancée is truly the daughter of the chairman of Hall International Group, then James wouldn't be here drinking with us! James' fiancée must share the same name." Tyler interjected.
"Right, it must be a coincidence!" Paul smiled faintly and left the matter at that.
As the daughter of the chairman of Hall International Group, Laura was beautiful, with an enviable figure, and surrounded by countless suitors due to her wealthy background. James couldn't possibly be engaged to a goddess-like woman like her.
Paul accepted the possibility of a namesake, Laura, given the circumstances.
"James, you sly dog, suddenly getting engaged and not telling us?" Paul chuckled and patted James on the shoulder.
"Yeah, why didn't you inform us about your engagement before? We wouldn't have had to introduce you to a girlfriend!" Tyler added.
"I only found out about it recently!" James shrugged helplessly.
"By the way, if you get the chance, bring your fiancée out to hang out with us!" Paul suggested with a smile.
"Sure," James nodded and didn't say much more.
At that moment, Jennifer and Ashley, along with the others, overheard the conversation between James and Paul.
When Jennifer and Ashley learned of James' engagement, they made disdainful faces.
"A loser like James now has a fiancée now. Who in the world would want to marry James?" Ashley muttered softly.
"Don't believe a word that James says. He could make up any lie to show off. Shameless!" Sandra remarked.
"That's right, James must be lying!" Jennifer concurred.
"Ever since he broke up with me, James seems to have gone crazy, becoming more and more boastful. I think he just can't accept the fact that we're not together anymore!" Ashley whispered to Jennifer.
"It doesn't matter if he still likes me. With his low class status, I regret even being with him in the first place. I wouldn't like him now, that's for sure. Michael is much better, wealthy, and thoughtful." Jennifer remarked quietly as she leaned affectionately against Michael as if bragging to others.
James chatted briefly with Paul and Tyler, and as the time approached, he decided to leave the bar and head home.
However, just as James was about to get up, his phone suddenly rang.
Surprised for a moment, James quickly checked his phone and saw a woman's name displayed on the screen.
And that woman was James' fiancée, Laura!
