Chapter 217 Encountering an Acquaintance in the Live Stream

Two hours flew by in a blink.

James had been chilling on the bedroom sofa, glued to Sylvie's livestream.

Sylvie's stream was still blowing up, even more than Linda's, and she was raking in the tips.

With over five million followers on TikTok, it made sense she'd bring a huge crowd to StreamVerse.

[Sylvie, the platform's PK competition is about to start. Shouldn't we go check it out?]

A comment popped up on the screen.

Sylvie paused for a second, then said, "Alright, I'll take you guys to the PK competition in a bit. Make sure to support me and help me get first place! I'm gonna take a break now, see you all later! Bye-bye."

With that, Sylvie ended her stream.

Truth was, Sylvie wasn't really into the PK competition; she just needed a break.

"I'm beat; finally, some downtime!"

Sylvie stretched out lazily after closing the stream.

"They can't hear you now, right?" James asked, a bit confused.

"I've already closed the stream, so nope, they can't hear me. But I gotta reopen it for the PK competition soon!" Sylvie said casually, clicking around to get to the PK competition page.

After a bit, Sylvie opened another streamer's room.

But when James saw who it was, he was floored, his face full of shock.

He never expected to see her here!

The female streamer on the screen was none other than his roommate, Linda.

James had no idea Linda was also in the StreamVerse PK competition.

He'd been so busy lately, he hadn't seen Linda in a while or caught any of her streams.

Linda was looking super hot today, in a white spaghetti strap dress, her face fresh and makeup-free, totally alluring.

She seemed to be in a great mood, a faint smile playing on her lips.

"Do you know this streamer?" Sylvie asked, noticing James's excitement.

"Yeah, I've watched her streams before!" James replied, trying to play it cool.

"This streamer is Linda. She used to be a small-time streamer. But then this rich guy named SuperSmith started supporting her, and she blew up, even more popular than I was at her peak. But SuperSmith hasn't shown up lately, so her popularity's taken a hit," Sylvie explained.

"Got it," James nodded, keeping it brief.

"I know a little secret about Linda. Wanna hear it?" Sylvie asked, a mischievous glint in her eye.

"What secret?" James asked, curious.

"If you wanna know, come sit on my lap," Sylvie teased, patting her long, fair legs.

Sylvie didn't actually want to hook up with James. Deep down, she was pretty conservative; she just loved seeing him squirm.

"Can you quit messing around? What's this secret you wanna tell me?" James wasn't falling for it and replied, exasperated.

Seeing James like that, Sylvie laughed and said, "I heard from a friend that the big spender in Linda's stream tried to assault her but failed. Linda reported him to the cops, and he's still in jail. That's why her popularity tanked!"

"Who told you that?" James shouted, clearly rattled.

It was obvious to him that the guy Linda reported was Rex, who was pretending to be SuperSmith, while James was the real SuperSmith!

"This has been the buzz in the entertainment world for a while, and Linda hasn't denied it. Why are you so worked up?" Sylvie replied, pouting.

"That's nonsense!" James felt like he was being accused of something he didn't do, and it made him even more agitated.

"How is it nonsense? This rumor's been around for a bit! I mean, even if she didn't want to sleep with the guy, calling the cops seems extreme, right? What if he comes back for revenge?" Sylvie said casually.

James glanced at Sylvie, opened his mouth, but didn't say anything.

He wanted to defend Linda, but then he realized Sylvie didn't know he was the real SuperSmith. Even if he explained, she probably wouldn't believe him.

But Sylvie's words did remind James that he hadn't been sending gifts in Linda's stream, which could lead to misunderstandings.

"What's this PK competition about?" James asked, trying to change the subject.

"The PK competition is something StreamVerse started recently. During a livestream, a streamer can challenge another streamer. The two compete, and within a set time, the one who gets more gifts wins and moves on to the next round until someone becomes the champion!" Sylvie explained.

"Isn't this just a way to get viewers to tip more?" James had heard Linda mention it before.

"Yeah!" Sylvie nodded. "But if you make it to the top three, you can win a million-dollar cash prize. If you're knocked out in the first round, the platform takes all the gifts you got that month. And this PK competition is mandatory for all streamers. No one wants to work for free this month!"

"I didn't know the platform was so cutthroat." James sighed.

"Of course, there are a lot of unspoken rules in the streaming world. The platform doesn't just make money from viewers; they also make money from the streamers!" Sylvie said indignantly.

James looked at Sylvie and smiled, not saying much.
