Chapter 254 Because Mr. Smith is Coming Over
Everyone chilled out the moment Atticus left the private room and started checking out the supreme private room.
"Wow, this place is huge! I've never eaten somewhere this fancy before!" Thalassa beamed with pride. After all, they were here because of her fiancé, Leander.
She couldn't stop smiling since they walked in.
Elowen and Dorian were busy buttering up Leander and snapping pics.
To them, dining in the supreme private room of The Golden Elm Bistro was totally brag-worthy.
"I didn't expect this room would be so luxurious. Leander, this is really something," Elowen said, taking photos with her phone.
But Laura's parents didn't look too happy.
Both their sons-in-law were here, but Leander had made a name for himself, becoming the VP of an investment company at a young age and even knowing someone like Atticus.
Meanwhile, their son-in-law James was just a broke student who had to deliver food to get by.
The difference was glaring.
At first, Joe thought James was alright, aside from being poor.
But now, compared to Leander, Joe regretted marrying Laura to James just for the company's sake.
Laura, on the other hand, didn't seem to care at all.
A few minutes later, everyone finished ordering.
Thalia looked at Leander with a proud smile. "Leander, when did you meet Mr. Hayes?"
Leander was caught off guard by Thalia's question and replied awkwardly, "We're not that close."
"Leander, no need to be modest. We all saw how Mr. Hayes talked to you just now. If you two weren't close, would he be so polite? Would he have given us such a nice room?" Thalia continued, "Atticus isn't a nobody. Even the mayor of Lumina City has to be polite to him. He's a big deal!"
Thalia was clearly trying to show off to Laura's parents how impressive Leander was.
"Leander is really something, knowing someone like Mr. Hayes at such a young age. I've been in Lumina City for years and haven't even had the chance to talk to Mr. Hayes!" Joe said, sounding a bit helpless.
"Leander is really impressive! Life isn't always easy," Laura's mom, Isolde, added, giving James a pointed look.
James glanced at Isolde, feeling really let down.
He never thought Isolde would be so snobby.
But he was marrying Laura, not Isolde, and Isolde just wanted her daughter to marry a rich guy, which he could understand.
Laura got the hint from Isolde but didn't dare say anything since Isolde was her mom. She just fiddled with her phone, feeling really hurt.
It wasn't the gap between James and Leander that hurt her; it was the way everyone was mocking and humiliating James.
She was starting to regret bringing James to Willowbrook.
They were really tearing him down.
James gently patted Laura's shoulder, trying to comfort her. "It's okay. I'm fine. At least we're getting a free meal!"
"This is too much!" Laura whispered.
"Don't worry, I'll work hard. One day, they'll regret this. I swear, the next time they see me, they won't dare to treat me like this!" James said seriously.
Laura's frown eased, and she smiled. "You don't need to stress yourself out. It doesn't really matter what they think of you!"
"Indeed. I only care about you!" James said.
Laura was touched.
She suddenly felt like the James sitting in front of her was different, not the same James she knew before.
Just then, a waitress walked in with a tray of dishes. "Excuse me, we're here to serve the food!"
James and Laura stopped talking.
One by one, the delicious dishes were placed on the table, and everyone was blown away by the fancy food.
There were a lot of things they had never seen before.
Thalassa and Elowen started snapping pics of the food with their phones, while James and Laura stayed calm.
But Leander's face changed when he saw the dishes because he realized these weren't what he had ordered.
These were all super expensive ingredients.
Leander hesitated for a moment and then called out, "Excuse me!"
The waitress quickly came over and asked softly, "Sir, how can I help you?"
"I didn't order these dishes. Did you make a mistake?" Leander asked, still unsure.
"Sir, there's no mistake. These dishes are a gift from Mr. Hayes. The dishes you ordered will be served later," the waitress explained.
"A gift from Mr. Hayes?" Leander was stunned.
He didn't really know Atticus. It was already amazing that Atticus had given them a supreme private room.
But now, he had even sent dishes, which made Leander even more confused.
Leander hesitated and asked, "Why did Mr. Hayes send us dishes?"
"I'm not sure. I heard Mr. Hayes tell the chef that Mr. Smith was coming, so he sent a few dishes," the waitress said, looking a bit unsure.
Everyone was completely shocked.
