Chapter 318 Get the Marriage Paperwork Done!
James returned to the restaurant and was instantly surrounded by a large crowd.
These people had gone to great lengths to meet James today, with the gifts prepared for Conrad being worth at least a million dollars each.
So they definitely had to find a way to talk to James and get acquainted; they couldn't let their million dollars go to waste.
And because James was mindful of The Hall Family's presence, he didn't dare lose his temper with these people, so he could only force himself to engage in small talk.
Isolde hesitated for a moment, but couldn't suppress her curiosity. She walked over to Laura and asked softly, "Laura, what's going on with James? How does he know so many big shots? Isn't he really a poor delivery boy?"
Laura turned to Isolde, her expression serious. "Mom, how many times do I have to tell you? James isn't as bad as you think, and he's not a poor delivery boy!"
"He's not a poor boy?" Isolde was taken aback by this.
"Of course not. If James were really a poor boy, why would I be with him?"
Laura rolled her eyes at Isolde and continued, "James isn't as useless as you think; he just doesn't want to argue with you."
"So, are you saying that James is actually a low-key rich kid?" Isolde shouted excitedly at Laura.
Laura couldn't help but smile faintly at Isolde's words. Without explaining further, she turned and walked into the restaurant's main hall.
Isolde looked at James with a puzzled expression. She couldn't reconcile the image of James with that of a rich kid.
Laura knew that if she told Isolde and the others the truth now, they would still treat James the same way they did before. So, it was better to say nothing, ensuring that no one would dare to humiliate James again.
"Laura, don't walk away so quickly!" Isolde quickly followed after realizing what Laura had said.
"Mom, what is it?" Laura turned to Isolde, her expression puzzled.
"Laura, I thought about it just now. I think James is actually quite nice. If you two think it's suitable, you should hurry up and get married, especially get the marriage certificate first!" Isolde said with a smile.
"What?" Laura was stunned, her face showing extreme shock!
Her shock was no less than when she saw all those big shots stand up and greet James earlier!
Just a few hours ago, Isolde had looked down on James in every possible way, and now she was actively asking Laura to marry him. Isolde was truly a fickle woman!
"Mom, what are you talking about? James and I aren't at the stage of getting married yet!" Laura said helplessly.
"Well, everyone knows you're James's fiancée. Our families won't cancel the engagement, so you might as well get the marriage certificate. That way, you'll have a proper status," Isolde replied with a smile.
"Mom, you didn't like James before. Why are you in such a hurry for us to get married now?" Laura asked, exasperated.
"Well, I used to think James was just a poor delivery boy with no skills and couldn't make you happy. But now, James is different. He's a super-rich kid. Look at how those big shots talk to him. Even your dad doesn't have the chance to meet these people. If you can marry James, it will benefit you and help The Hall Family a lot. Don't miss this great opportunity; you must hold on to James!" Isolde said excitedly to Laura.
Laura looked at Isolde, her expression extremely helpless, not knowing what to say.
"Laura, don't hesitate. Listen to me and get the marriage certificate with James!" Isolde urged Laura.
"Well, Mom, I have something else to do. I'll talk to you later!" Laura made an excuse and turned to walk into the restaurant.
She couldn't believe her mother was so materialistic. She had humiliated James in every way before, and now she was eager for Laura to marry him.
Two hours had passed.
The number of people in the restaurant finally began to dwindle. The wealthy people who had come to see James left after greeting him.
Their purpose today was just to get acquainted with James. Now that they had achieved their goal, they had no reason to stay.
It seemed that the main character of today's birthday banquet was not Conrad but James.
Irvin, who had previously had some conflicts with James, kept a cold expression as he watched James.
He couldn't believe that the poor boy he had inadvertently offended had such a terrifying background. Especially after seeing how those people talked to James, he was even more terrified.
Any one of those people could easily crush the Hays Family!
Elmer had seen how busy James was earlier, so he hadn't disturbed him. Now that most of the people had left, leaving mainly some small local business owners from Willowbrook, Elmer hesitated for a moment, glanced at Irvin, and then walked over to James.
Seeing Elmer approach, everyone turned their attention to James.
They all knew about the previous conflict between Irvin and James and wanted to see how Elmer would handle it.
"Mr. Smith!" Elmer greeted James respectfully.
James looked up at Elmer. He had met Elmer before at Fairy Lake Resort and knew Elmer was one of his subordinates.
But since Laura and the others were present, James pretended not to know Elmer and asked softly, "Do we know each other?"
"Mr. Smith, we met once at Fairy Lake Resort. Don't you remember?" Elmer said with a smile.
"Oh, I see." James nodded slightly and continued, "What do you need?"
"Mr. Smith, I heard that my son accidentally offended you last night at ArtScape Center, so I brought him here today to apologize," Elmer said with a smile.
The Hall Family members felt ashamed upon hearing this because they had previously asked James to apologize to Irvin.
Thinking about this, they couldn't help but feel guilty!
Now they finally understood why James dared to offend Irvin and refused to apologize!
James didn't need to apologize; instead, Irvin had to come and apologize to James!
