Chapter 209 What Are You Shouting about Here?
The crowd was a bit thrown off by what James said, their faces showing clear confusion.
None of them had a clue what James was getting at!
"Are you suggesting I will end up a delivery guy?" Victor shot a puzzled look at James.
James didn't even bother to respond. Instead, he pulled out his phone, found Charles' number, and dialed it.
He had zero patience for Victor's nonsense right now.
"Are you out of your mind?"
"Yeah, seriously? What are you thinking?"
"Who do you think you are? That's hilarious!"
"Does he not know how loaded Mr. Hudson is? Such arrogance! He's not afraid of karma, huh?"
Everyone thought James was just bluffing, so they all started mocking him.
"James, what are you talking about? I asked you to pretend to be my boyfriend, not to brag!" Sylvie chimed in.
She was just as confused as everyone else. She thought maybe James was trying to bluff.
But even if he was, he should've come up with something more believable. Victor delivering food? What kind of logic is that?
"Doesn't he love the job? Doesn't he look down on it? Then let him experience it for himself!" James said calmly, waiting for Charles to pick up.
"Who do you think you are? You think Victor will deliver food just because you tell him to?" Sylvie shouted, clearly frustrated.
"If I tell him to, he has to!" James replied, still calm.
"Mr. Smith!"
Finally, Charles answered the phone.
"Charles, I..." James started, but Evelyn, who had been watching the whole thing, suddenly stepped forward and pointed at James, shouting, "James, what are you doing? Is it fun wasting everyone's time with your drama? Everyone at the University of Lumina knows you paid your tuition by delivering food. Mr. Hudson wasn't wrong to compare you to a delivery guy!"
Evelyn's intentions were clear. She never liked James. Now that he had ticked off Victor, Evelyn saw her chance. If she backed Victor, she might score some points with him.
The thought of getting in good with someone like Victor thrilled Evelyn.
"Didn't expect you to actually be a delivery guy!"
"Yeah, no wonder he got so upset when Mr. Hudson said that. He felt inferior because it was true!"
"I thought he might be some hidden rich kid, but he's just a delivery guy. What a letdown!"
Everyone started mocking James after hearing Evelyn's words.
"Is what you said true?" Victor asked Evelyn with a smirk.
"Yeah, James is like the delivery king at our school. If you don't believe me, just ask any student from the University of Lumina!" Evelyn said confidently.
"Haha, I believe you!" Victor laughed. He hadn't expected his offhand comment to be so spot-on; James really was a delivery guy.
James was taken aback when Evelyn stepped up.
He thought only Sylvie knew him here, so he planned to reveal his identity and have Charles put Victor in his place.
But Evelyn's sudden appearance threw a wrench in his plans.
If Evelyn knew who he was, then Paul and Tyler probably did too, making things way more complicated.
"Mr. Smith, are you having some trouble over there?" Charles' voice came through the phone.
"It's nothing," James replied calmly, then hung up.
With Evelyn around, James couldn't risk exposing his identity by having Charles show up.
He had to handle this on his own.
Everyone thought James hung up because Evelyn had outed him, so he didn't dare to keep up the act.
This made them even more convinced Evelyn was telling the truth.
"Sorry, I didn't expect you to actually be a delivery guy!" Victor sneered, stepping closer to James.
James squinted at Victor, staying silent.
"Since you're a delivery guy, there's no way Sylvie would be with someone like you. So you're not really her boyfriend, right?" Victor pressed.
"Victor, who said I wouldn't be with a delivery guy?" Sylvie shot back.
"Come on, Sylvie, stop pretending. Just admit it. How could you possibly like a delivery guy?" Victor said calmly.
"Excuse me, maybe Sylvie just likes someone like me!" James suddenly shouted.
Then he wrapped his arm around Sylvie's waist, pulling her close.
Everyone was stunned!
Their eyes widened, staring in disbelief. They thought if James was just some random guy Sylvie found to pretend to be her boyfriend, he wouldn't get so touchy with her!
But no one expected James to hug Sylvie in front of everyone.
Even Sylvie was shocked by James' bold move.
Evelyn, her sharp eyes wide with astonishment, looked at James and Sylvie in disbelief. She didn't even know how to process what she was seeing.
"Could James really be Sylvie's boyfriend?" Evelyn muttered to herself.
