Chapter 386 I Admit I Like You!
In Eldon's eyes, people like Charles had always been all about the money.
So, the fact that he was helping James now must have some hidden agenda. Eldon wanted to get to the bottom of it.
"Didn't you also lend Mr. Smith a hand today? I guess we were after the same thing!" Charles said to Eldon with a grin.
"I helped James because I can't stand the thought of Matthew inheriting Willard's estate. Willard despised the Edwards family when he was alive. If they get his estate now, how could I face him in the afterlife?" Eldon replied calmly, then looked up at Charles with a serious expression. "But I still don't get why you're helping James."
"I don't want Matthew to inherit Willard's estate either!" Charles replied, still smiling.
"You're not like me. You're a big-shot businessman, always chasing profits. You must have your reasons for helping James today!" Eldon suddenly stood up, looking agitated, and said to Charles.
"You've already figured out my plan, so why do you need me to spell it out?" Charles replied softly.
"Do you think James is a better heir than Matthew? If James doesn't inherit this estate, he's just a regular guy!" Eldon said coldly.
"So what if he's just a regular guy? It's exactly because of it that I chose him. I believe he can fulfill Willard's last wishes!" Charles said firmly, looking at Eldon.
Eldon fell silent.
After a long pause, he sighed and said, "I hope you're making the right choice this time!"
"Don't worry, you just said it yourself, I'm just a businessman. I've been in the game for years, and I'm good at reading people. And don't forget, James is Willard's chosen heir. Even if you don't trust my judgment, you should trust Willard's!" Charles gently patted Eldon's shoulder.
Eldon looked at Charles and then asked, "When do you plan to tell James about this?"
"I'll tell him when the time is right. He needs to know what he's up against now!" Charles replied.
Eldon smiled, shaking his head. "I wonder how James will react when he finds out."
"If you want to know, you can stick around and tell him with me."
"I'm just a lawyer. Company stuff isn't my business. You should tell him yourself!" Eldon replied, then turned and walked out of the conference room.
Charles watched Eldon's back and sighed without saying anything.
Meanwhile, when James took the elevator to the first floor, he saw that Laura and Lily had already left Innovation Hub Tower and were heading towards the parking lot in front of the building.
James knew it was too late to follow them, so he sprinted straight to the parking lot exit.
When he saw Laura's white car coming out, he dashed over without a second thought.
Laura slammed on the brakes when she saw James suddenly rush out, stopping the car just a few feet away from him.
"James, are you nuts?"
Laura rolled down the window and shouted at him, clearly agitated.
"Laura, do you have a minute? Let's grab a bite together." James asked her with a serious look.
"I don't want to have a meal with you. Move out of the way!" Laura replied coldly.
"Laura, I know I messed up. I shouldn't have lied to you back then. Please forgive me, okay?" James said, looking hopeful.
"Forgive you? Why should I?" Laura sneered at him.
"Laura, you should get out and talk to James. We can't leave with him blocking the exit!"
James was standing right at the parking lot exit, and it was rush hour, so a bunch of cars were waiting to leave!
Laura hesitated for a moment after hearing Lily's words, then opened the car door and got out.
Laura was rocking a cool spaghetti strap dress today, and her already tall and sexy figure looked even more stunning in it.
When she stepped out of the car, she instantly caught the attention of everyone around.
Most of the onlookers were employees here, but they were just regular folks, so they didn't recognize that the guy blocking the exit was their boss, James.
Laura walked up to James in her high heels, looked him up and down, and said coldly, "James, I'm not here to help you today, nor because I've forgiven you. I'm just repaying a favor to Mr. Wilson, so don't get any ideas. From now on, there's nothing between us. Got it?"
With that, Laura turned to get back in the car.
James quickly grabbed her arm and said softly, "Laura, I really didn't mean to deceive you before. Please give me another chance, okay?"
"Let go of me. I need to go home now!"
Laura struggled, but she wasn't as strong as James, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't break free.
"Laura, I admit I lied to you before, but I truly care about you. I genuinely like you!" James said sincerely.
"James, you should know me well. I hate being deceived. I admit I liked you before, but now I don't know if you want to be with me because you like me or because you want to inherit the estate. I need time to think. Do you understand?"
Laura said seriously, her eyes red as she looked at him.
James was stunned upon hearing her words.
