Chapter 354 A Clean Break!
James was stunned after being slapped by Laura, staring blankly at her.
"James, if you hadn't told me all these things, how could I have known you were a super-rich kid? I always thought you were a poor student. So, I never cared whether you had money or not!"
Laura shouted at James, her expression extremely agitated.
"But I care." James replied through gritted teeth in a low voice.
Laura was taken aback by James' words, then said softly, "Maybe money is very important to you, but to me, it's just a trivial thing. If you had told me earlier, I might have forgiven you. But you lied to me for so long. The thing I hate the most in this life is being deceived. Do you understand?"
"I'm sorry."
At this point, James didn't know what else to say to Laura, so he just kept apologizing with his head down.
"Do you think saying sorry now will help? Do you think I will forgive you?" Laura shouted at James.
"I never expected you to forgive me. Savannah and the others came today to expose my identity. Once my identity is exposed, I will lose everything—my inheritance, and you. None of it will matter to me anymore!" James replied through gritted teeth.
"James, why did you do this? Even if you had no money, I would still like you. But what I can't accept is that you chose to deceive me for the sake of an inheritance!"
Laura replied emotionally, then stood up and continued, "James, you deceived me for so long. I will never forgive you!"
James looked up sharply at Laura, wanting to speak.
But Laura didn't give James a chance to speak and turned to walk out of the room.
James sat there, watching Laura's back for two seconds, and didn't choose to chase after her.
Because he felt that even if he chased after her, Laura wouldn't forgive him. Moreover, James no longer had the right to ask Laura to stay. He didn't want Laura to stay and suffer with him.
After all, once Willard's team of lawyers knew that James' identity had been exposed, James would lose everything he had.
After leaving the room, Laura noticed that James didn't follow her. A look of disappointment flashed in her eyes, and she walked to the parking lot, then drove away, disappearing down the street.
Half an hour later, Laura returned to The Hall Family mansion.
Everyone gathered around when they saw Laura return.
"Laura, why did you come back alone? Where's James?"
"Yeah, Laura, where did James go?"
"Laura, why do you look so upset?"
After everything that happened today, everyone's attitude towards James had changed dramatically. Although they had thought James was a rich kid before, they didn't realize his background was so powerful, even bringing in Tigerheart from Serendara.
So now their attitude towards James was very different, all waiting for him to come back so they could curry favor with him.
"James didn't come back with me. You don't need to try to curry favor with him because I've already broken up with him!"
Laura had no mood to deal with these people. After saying this, she ran straight to her room.
Once in her room, Laura threw herself on the bed and cried.
She felt she had been too foolish recently. She had completely opened her heart to James, but he had repeatedly deceived her. She couldn't accept this reality!
At that moment, there was a rapid knock on the door.
"Who is it?" Laura wiped the tears from her face and asked softly.
"Laura, it's me. Can I come in?" Lily's voice came from outside the room.
Laura hesitated for two seconds, then got up and opened the door.
"Laura, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Lily asked, puzzled, seeing Laura's red eyes.
"I'm fine," Laura replied through gritted teeth in a low voice.
"Come on, don't pretend in front of me. What did James do to you today? Why are you crying like this?" Lily sat on the bed and asked Laura softly.
Laura also wanted to find someone to talk to about this, so after hesitating for a while, she told Lily everything James had said to her.
Meanwhile.
The Golden Elm Bistro manager Herbert, seeing Laura leave, hurried to the room door.
But he waited at the door for a long time and didn't see James come out.
So, after hesitating, he cautiously walked into the room where James was and found him still sitting there in a daze.
"Mr. Smith, Miss Hall has left..." Herbert said respectfully to James.
Herbert was just an ordinary restaurant manager and didn't know what had happened with James.
"I know," James replied in a low voice.
"Mr. Smith, our restaurant is about to close. Do you want to stay here a bit longer, or would you like to go back to the hotel? If you want to go back to the hotel, I can take you now." Seeing that James didn't seem to want to leave, Herbert quickly continued.
James was taken aback by Herbert's words, then asked, "Did you drive here?"
"Yes, I did. Mr. Smith, where do you want to go?" Herbert asked quickly.
"Take me back to Lumina City."
James sighed lightly. He felt there was no point in staying here and decided to go back.
"Okay, I'll get the car now."
Herbert quickly nodded and walked to the restaurant parking lot.
Ten minutes later, James got into a black Honda and disappeared down the streets of Willowbrook.
Looking at the familiar scenery, James felt a mix of emotions. He had thought that coming to Willowbrook would put his relationship with Laura on the right track, but he never expected it to end like this.
Although James still had control over Savannah, that woman was just a lifeline for him and couldn't change anything.
James began to feel lost. He didn't know how to move forward.
How many people could understand the feeling of such a downfall, from the world's richest man to a penniless guy?
