Chapter 359 A Chance Encounter with Donna
Inside the sales office.
A middle-aged man in a suit was standing in front of a young woman, berating her with an unusually agitated expression.
The young woman stood there with her head down, on the verge of tears, but she didn't dare to talk back.
The sales office was crowded, but everyone was just watching the scene unfold, and no one dared to step in to defend the young woman.
"Mr. Smith, let me take you to see the model over there first!"
Pamela was already used to such situations, so she didn't pay much attention to it.
However, a flash of anger appeared in James's eyes, and his expression turned grim.
He didn't answer Pamela's question but instead walked directly towards the young woman.
"Donna, are you a pig? You scared away a perfectly good client! How do you expect me to handle this? Tell me!"
The middle-aged man shouted at the young woman with an agitated expression.
The young woman being scolded was none other than James's college class president, Donna!
James and Donna had always had a good relationship. Donna never looked down on James for being poor; on the contrary, she often helped him.
But in James's impression, Donna's family conditions were quite decent. She wasn't a trust fund baby, but she shouldn't have to work in a place like a sales office, right?
"Mr. Kramer, I... I know I was wrong. Please give me another chance. I promise I won't make such a mistake again!"
Donna said nervously to the middle-aged man, Demetrius Kramer.
"Give you another chance?"
Demetrius couldn't help but sneer after hearing this, then said with a stern face, "Donna, do you think you still have the right to ask me for anything? Let me make it clear: you're fired. Pack your things and get out!"
Donna looked at the middle-aged man in front of her, a flash of despair in her eyes, and said softly, "I really know I was wrong. You can dock my pay, but please don't fire me, okay?"
"Dock your pay?"
Demetrius laughed disdainfully and said sarcastically, "How much do you think your pay is worth? I'm telling you, pack your things and get out, got it?"
Donna nodded helplessly, then hesitated, biting her lip and said softly, "Then, Mr. Kramer, when will my pay be settled?"
"Donna, do you have any shame? You scared away such a big client, and you still have the nerve to ask for your pay? It's already good enough that I'm not asking you to compensate me!" Demetrius shouted.
"But I've been working at the sales office for almost a month. Didn't we agree that even without any sales, I would still get a base salary of four thousand dollars? Why is it suddenly gone?" Donna shouted excitedly.
"Donna, I don't have the patience to argue with you. Pack your things and get out, got it?"
Seeing more and more people gathering to watch, Demetrius decided not to continue arguing with Donna and turned to leave.
At this moment, James suddenly spoke up, "She's been working here for a month. Even if you fire her, you should still settle her pay, right?"
Donna turned her head to look at James upon hearing his voice, and she was stunned, her face showing an expression of disbelief.
James was now wearing a designer suit, and his entire demeanor was completely different from before. If it weren't for hearing James's voice, Donna would hardly believe that the person standing in front of her was James.
"James, what... what are you doing here?" Donna asked James in surprise.
"I'm here to look at houses." James replied calmly, then looked at Demetrius and continued, "You can fire her, but you must settle her pay!"
Demetrius glanced at James with disdain and cursed, "Who the hell are you? What does firing an employee have to do with you? Get lost!"
"Demetrius, you sure are bold! How dare you speak to Mr. Smith like that!"
Before Demetrius could finish his sentence, Pamela walked out from the crowd.
Seeing Pamela, Demetrius was stunned and stammered, "Miss Gray, when did you get here?"
Pamela had become the vice president of Harmony Realty Group thanks to the sales she made when James bought several villas, including one that was extremely valuable.
So, seeing Pamela made Demetrius very nervous.
"I'm here with Mr. Smith to look at houses!" Pamela replied calmly.
"Mr. Smith?"
A flash of surprise appeared in Demetrius's eyes because he knew that Pamela had become the company's vice president thanks to a rich kid with a last name Smith.
There were even rumors in the company that Pamela was Mr. Smith's kept woman, and the young man standing next to Pamela also had the last name Smith!
Even a fool could figure out what was going on!
"So... so you're Mr. Smith? Mr. Smith, I'm so sorry for offending you earlier. Please forgive me!"
Demetrius's attitude did a complete 180-degree turn. He bowed to James and extended his right hand.
James looked at Demetrius's extended hand but had no intention of shaking it. Instead, he said expressionlessly, "I don't know what mistake Donna made, but I think it's inappropriate to scold a young woman in front of so many people. And why are you docking her pay? That pay is rightfully hers!"
Demetrius was stunned for a moment, then quickly turned to Donna and said, "Miss Howard, I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have spoken to you that way. I was blind. Please don't hold it against me."
Demetrius was very good at reading people, which is how he got to his current position. He could tell at a glance that James and Donna had an unusual relationship, so he didn't need anyone to remind him to start apologizing to Donna.
Donna stood there, stunned, looking at James with a face full of disbelief.
In Donna's impression, James was just an ordinary student, sometimes even less than an ordinary student.
But now, James had suddenly transformed into a rich kid that even someone like Demetrius wouldn't dare to offend. And Demetrius had even addressed James as Mr. Smith. Donna found this completely unbelievable!
