Chapter 435 A Call from Evelyn

Just as James was about to hug Linda, she suddenly pushed him away.

James froze for a moment, totally confused about why Linda had done that.

He looked at her, puzzled, and softly asked, "What's wrong?"

Linda didn't answer. Instead, she got up and ran to the bathroom.

Soon, he could hear the sound of her dry heaving.

Clearly, Linda had had too much to drink and was feeling nauseous.

James sat on the sofa, replaying the scene in his mind, and started to calm down.

Linda had been pretty forward, and he almost lost control, but he didn't want to do anything that would betray Laura.

"What was I thinking?" he muttered, slapping himself hard. He got up to leave.

But just as he was about to head to his room, he remembered Linda was still in the bathroom.

He hesitated, thinking it wouldn't be right to leave her alone in there.

Plus, she was drunk. If she fell asleep in the bathroom, she'd definitely get sick.

So, he decided to check on her.

When he walked into the bathroom, he found Linda already asleep by the toilet.

James sighed and walked over to her.

He didn't wake her up, unsure of what she might do if he did.

Instead, he picked her up, carried her to her bedroom, took off her shoes, and gently placed her on the bed.

Just as he was about to leave, Linda mumbled, "James, I... I really like you. If it weren't for you, I might have been ruined by Rex a long time ago."

James turned around, looking at her in surprise.

Her face was flushed, and soft hums occasionally escaped her lips, making her look very tempting.

If he hadn't already fallen for Laura, he might have agreed to Linda's confession.

But he had fallen for Laura, and there was no room in his heart for anyone else.

He took a deep breath and walked out of the room.

Back in his own room, he lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling a mix of emotions.

Sometimes, he didn't know if he was lucky or not. Sure, he had inherited a large fortune, but he felt less at ease than when he had no money. Back then, he at least lived a carefree life.

But then again, inheriting such a large fortune out of nowhere—who could say he wasn't lucky?James was super confused.

With all these thoughts swirling around, he closed his eyes and eventually fell asleep.

The next morning, around eight, James woke up and headed to the bathroom to freshen up.

After washing up, he went back to his room and sat on the bed, lost in thought.

There was still a week before school started, Laura was gone, and the whole thing with Matthew was sorted out.

James suddenly realized he had nothing to do.

He hesitated for a moment, then decided to call Paul and Tyler. They hadn't hung out in nearly two months, and he wanted to catch up.

Just as he took out his phone, it started ringing.

He looked at the screen and saw an unknown number. Confused, he answered, "Who is it?"

"James, it's me!" A girl's voice came through.

"Who are you?" James asked, a bit annoyed.

"It's Evelyn. You don't recognize my voice?"

James was stunned. He had no idea why Evelyn was calling or how she got his number.

They'd only met a few times, and he never really liked her. So, he was puzzled about why she was calling.

"What do you want?" he asked, still confused.

"What else? Do you have time now? I need to talk to you," Evelyn said, sounding a bit annoyed.

"I'm busy," James replied. He didn't want to deal with her, especially alone, since Evelyn was Paul's crush and Paul was his roommate.

"Oh, you're refusing me? Do you really think you're some rich kid now?" Evelyn sounded shocked and a bit angry.

"If you have nothing else, I'm hanging up," James said, not wanting to waste time.

"Why would I call you for no reason? Come to the Old Captain Bar at eight tonight. I have something important to tell you," Evelyn said impatiently.

"What is it? Can't you just tell me over the phone?" James asked, getting more annoyed.

"Of course not. Just be there at eight. If you don't come, I'll tell Paul and the others about you pretending to be a rich kid at the sales office. Let's see how you explain that!" Evelyn snapped and hung up.

James stared at his phone, feeling helpless. He had no idea what Evelyn wanted.

But he was worried she might actually tell Paul and the others about the sales office incident. That would be hard to explain.

So, to avoid any drama, and since he had nothing else to do, James decided to go to the Old Captain Bar at eight to see what Evelyn wanted.
