Chapter 283 A Piece of "River Flows In You"
Before long, they made it to the third floor, with Dorian and Thalassa tagging along to catch the action.
Once upstairs, James let Vivienne go first.
Vivienne didn't waste any time. She secured the violin against her shoulder and raised the bow to the strings, ready to play.
To her, James was just some poor delivery guy, and there was no way he could match her on the violin.
So, Vivienne looked pretty relaxed.
As she started playing, the sweet, melodic sound of the violin filled the music room.
Her music was gentle and composed at first.
Everyone in the room looked shocked, their eyes wide with disbelief.
As Vivienne played faster, the calm melody turned deep and passionate.
Laura covered her mouth, looking super surprised, and muttered, "Is it 'River Flows In You'?"
"Yeah, I remember hearing this piece back in college. I can't believe Vivienne's gotten so good that she can play 'River Flows In You'!" Lily whispered back.
"Looks like Vivienne's really trying to corner James this time! Picking this piece against someone who can't play the violin is just brutal!" Laura said, a hint of resentment in her voice.
She knew that if Vivienne had picked another piece, James might've had a shot. But with 'River Flows In You,' Vivienne wasn't giving him any chance at all.
James was stunned after hearing Laura and Lily's conversation. He frowned and asked, "Is it really that impressive?"
"James, are you serious? You don't even know this piece?" Laura turned to him, looking puzzled.
"I told you, I don't know much about the violin, and I don't know many pieces either," James replied calmly.
"Even if you don't know much about the violin, you should've at least heard of 'River Flows In You.' It's the top violin piece in Serendara!" Laura said, looking at him helplessly.
"I really haven't heard of it..." James said, shaking his head gently.
Laura looked at him, eyes filled with helplessness. She had thought James was just being modest when he said he didn't know much about the violin.
But now she realized he wasn't being modest at all. James really didn't know much about the violin, or else how could he not have heard of 'River Flows In You'?
'River Flows In You' was considered the top violin piece in Serendara because of its high difficulty.
The whole piece was divided into ten sections, two main parts.
In today's violin world, anyone who could play 'River Flows In You' was usually a well-known violin artist in the country. That's why Laura and Lily were so shocked when they found out Vivienne was playing it.
'It's over. James hasn't even heard of this piece; he's definitely going to lose today!' Nancy thought, knowing that James was clueless about the violin.
But James stayed super calm. He didn't think Vivienne's performance of 'River Flows In You' was all that impressive.
The violin sang out a series of sweet, pleasant notes, and Vivienne's performance was so captivating that everyone got lost in her music for a moment.
Even Laura and Lily stopped worrying about whether James could win. They just quietly enjoyed Vivienne's music.
As the tempo picked up, Vivienne got more into it.
The music ebbed and flowed, and finally, it slowed down.
Vivienne finished the piece smoothly and took a deep breath. Playing the whole thing was exhausting, and she looked visibly tired.
But when she saw the amazed looks on everyone's faces, she couldn't help but smile proudly.
This was exactly what Vivienne wanted—her performance should blow everyone away.
And she nailed it. Her performance of 'River Flows In You' not only shocked everyone but also left them in awe.
Even Laura couldn't help but think that even if she played today, she couldn't have beaten Vivienne.
After Vivienne put down the violin, she turned to look at James.
She thought that James would be speechless or even admit defeat right after hearing her play. But to her surprise, James still looked calm.
It was like he had just heard an ordinary violin piece, nothing special.
Vivienne couldn't help but think, 'Does James really not understand the violin at all? I played 'River Flows In You' perfectly. How could he not react?'
She shouted at James, "You poor loser, get over there. It's your turn now..."
"Is there any point in going on? Vivienne's performance was basically perfect!"
"Yeah, just admit defeat. There's no need to go on!"
"Vivienne's talent on the violin is unmatched. Just give up!"
Everyone, including Thalassa and Dorian, started telling James to admit defeat.
But James ignored them. He walked up to Vivienne and calmly said, "By the way, don't forget, if I win later, you have to kneel and apologize to my girlfriend!"
Vivienne was furious. Not only did James not plan to admit defeat, but he also thought he could win. She couldn't understand why.
The others were just as confused. Things had gone this far, and James still thought he could win. It was like he was dreaming!
