Chapter 189 Shameless Jennifer
Michael, Jennifer, and Timothy kidnapped James, planning to hand him over to Yancy for a lesson.
But when Yancy saw James, he knelt down.
Yancy even said James was Terry's boss!
In Lumina City, Terry was practically a household name. Just hearing his name was enough to make most people shiver.
So when Yancy revealed that James was Terry's boss, the implication was staggering. If James was Terry's superior, he must be an even more formidable figure.
Michael was sweating bullets as he grasped James's true identity. It dawned on him just how foolish he had been to provoke James repeatedly.
Jennifer stood there, mouth open, staring at James in shock.
Even though she couldn't quite believe that James was Terry's boss, Yancy's reaction made it impossible to ignore the shocking truth.
James, meanwhile, was squinting at Jennifer, a storm of emotions brewing inside him.
A woman he had once revered as a goddess had inexplicably betrayed him. Since their breakup, she had constantly undermined and ridiculed him, as if in her eyes, James was destined to be nothing more than a struggling delivery guy with no chance of rising above or finding a better partner.
"Jennifer!" James called out slowly.
Jennifer's legs gave out, and she collapsed.
Her arrogance vanished, replaced by submission.
"Mr. Smith, who... who are you really?" Jennifer stammered.
"Who I am has nothing to do with you," James replied coldly.
"You're not really Terry's boss, right? Yancy is just acting with you, right?" Jennifer mumbled, still in denial.
"Acting?" Yancy sneered. "James is not only Mr. Campbell's boss but also the chairman of Lumina City's Golden Peak Group. He owns shares in most Fortune 500 companies in Serendara, and his assets are worth trillions. Do you think he'd waste time acting with you?"
Yancy only had a vague idea of James's identity. What he said was a conservative guess.
Even a conservative estimate of James's assets was in the trillions, which was shocking enough for Jennifer, who would be stunned by billions, let alone trillions!
"James has assets worth trillions?" Jennifer looked at James, shocked. She couldn't believe James had become super-rich overnight!
Jennifer found it hard to accept. She pinched herself, and the pain told her this wasn't a dream!
"This is impossible!" Jennifer shouted, pointing at James. "I was with James for three years. I know who he is. He's not some rich heir; he's just a poor delivery guy!"
"You're right. I was a poor delivery guy, but even a loser can turn things around," James said.
"James, where did you get all this money? How do you know someone like Terry? What's going on?" Jennifer shouted, on the verge of breaking down.
"I don't need to explain anything to you," James replied softly, squinting his eyes.
Jennifer hesitated for a couple of seconds, then suddenly calmed down. She realized James had no reason to lie now. Yancy's attitude and James' recent changes at school showed he was no longer the same James. Maybe he had always been a super-rich heir, just hiding it.
Jennifer finally saw how foolish she was to break up with James for Michael. But she thought she might still have a chance to make things right.
"James, I was wrong before. Please forgive me!" Jennifer pleaded.
James smiled, amused, curious about what she'd say next.
Jennifer suddenly recalled the conversation between James and Michael earlier. Despite James' newfound wealth, she started to believe that he still had feelings for her. Otherwise, James wouldn't have a bet with Michael earlier.
"James, I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me! Didn't you bet with Michael that if Yancy knelt before you, you'd win, and I'd have to be with you?"
In her mind, although Michael was also wealthy, he couldn't compare to James in terms of status and influence. If Jennifer were to break up with Michael and return to James, it would be a stroke of luck amid misfortune.
"Yes, I did bet with Michael." James nodded.
Jennifer was overjoyed, thinking James might still have feelings for her.
"James, you did this because you want to be with me again, right? I know I was wrong. Let's get back together! I swear I'll never betray you again. I'll always stay by your side," Jennifer said, stepping forward with deep emotion.
"You'll always stay by my side? Never betray me?" James smiled.
"Yes, I promise I'll be by your side forever, only loving you! I've come to realize that we are true love. I've always loved you. It was Michael who forced me to leave you. I never wanted to be with him!" Jennifer shouted passionately, her face flushed with emotion.
"Didn't you tell me before that you willingly got together with Michael?" James asked, amused.
"I wasn't willing at all. Michael forced me. And all the things that happened recently to frame you were Michael's doing. James, you don't know how much it hurt me to see Michael bully you, but I had no choice. I broke up with you to protect you!" Jennifer said passionately.
Even Yancy, standing beside James, couldn't help but laugh at Jennifer's shamelessness.
