Chapter 362 Who Told You I Couldn't Afford a House?
Due to Paul, James and Evelyn were quite familiar with each other.
However, James had no fondness for this snobbish woman.
But James never expected to run into her here again!
Evelyn's family wasn't wealthy, and they had a house in their hometown.
But to satisfy her vanity, Evelyn insisted that her parents buy her a house in Lumina City.
This way, after graduation, Evelyn could have her own house and impress her classmates.
Initially, Evelyn's parents were against buying a house, but they couldn't withstand her constant nagging and finally agreed to take out a loan to buy her a small apartment.
The three of them looked at several properties in Lumina City and finally decided on this building because of its good location, complete surrounding facilities, and great potential for appreciation.
Even if Evelyn wanted to upgrade to a bigger house in the future, she could sell this one.
So yesterday, they paid a $20,000 deposit, planning to come back today to pay the down payment.
But as soon as they stepped into the sales office, they heard Demetrius say that all the houses were sold out, and even the deposit wouldn't help.
Although Demetrius promised to refund the deposit, Evelyn's family still felt uncomfortable. After all, they had finally found a house they liked, and now it was gone. Anyone would feel bad about that!
"Does your sales office have any credibility? We chose the house yesterday and paid the deposit, and now you're saying it's gone?" Evelyn shouted at Demetrius, visibly upset.
"I've made it very clear. There are still houses available, but Mr. Smith plans to buy them all. If you can pay the remaining balance now, I can talk to Mr. Smith about selling you the house. But if you don't have the money, then I'm sorry!" Demetrius replied impatiently.
Everyone finally understood what was going on after hearing Demetrius' words.
Someone had bought all the houses in one go, so the sales office was kicking them out.
The people who had come to look at houses were now gossiping around Demetrius, curious to see who had so much money to buy all the houses at once.
Evelyn didn't care about that and pointed at Demetrius, cursing, "You guys are so dishonest. I'm going to sue you!"
"Do as you please," Demetrius replied nonchalantly and then turned to leave.
Seeing Demetrius' indifferent attitude, Evelyn felt a bit desperate and quickly turned to her parents.
"Evelyn, we don't have that much money! Even our down payment was borrowed. How can we afford to pay in full? Let's just forget it!" Evelyn's father advised softly.
"Yeah, Evelyn, why do you need to buy a house? When you get married, let your boyfriend buy it!" Evelyn's mother added.
"This is so infuriating. Just because they have money, they think they're great? If they don't want to sell, we won't buy! Mom, Dad, let's go look at other properties," Evelyn said, knowing her family's financial situation and trying to find a way out.
"Mr. Smith, the contract is ready. Will you be paying by card or...?" Pamela hurried over to James in high heels and asked softly.
"By card," James replied casually, taking out the black card Charles had given him.
Charles had told James that this card had no spending limit, as long as it didn't exceed $10 trillion. James had used this card to buy that Ferrari earlier.
Everyone was shocked when they saw James take out the black card.
They couldn't believe that this young man, who looked barely in his twenties, could buy so many houses at once!
"Buying so many houses at once? That's so much money!"
"So young and so rich, that's impressive!"
"This guy must be a rich kid, spending money without blinking!"
"I worked so hard just for a down payment, and he bought the whole development. The gap is huge!"
People started whispering among themselves.
Evelyn, who had reached the sales office door, couldn't help but look back when she heard that the person who bought all the houses had appeared. She was stunned when she saw James.
"The person who bought all the houses is James?" Evelyn exclaimed.
"How is that possible? When did James become so rich?"
The more Evelyn looked, the more unbelievable it seemed. She then walked quickly towards James.
At first, Evelyn thought she had mistaken someone else for James.
But when she saw Pamela take the card from James, she was sure it was him.
"James!" Evelyn shouted at James.
James turned to Evelyn and asked expressionlessly, "What do you want?"
"What are you doing here?" Evelyn asked suspiciously as she walked up to James.
"Buying houses, of course," James replied flatly.
"Stop pretending. How much can you earn delivering food? How could you afford to buy a house?" Evelyn shouted, her eyes wide.
"Miss, please watch your tone. This gentleman is a VIP of our sales office!" Pamela scolded Evelyn expressionlessly.
Evelyn turned to Pamela and then pointed at James, shouting, "I'm telling you, you've all been fooled by this James. He's not a rich kid; he's just a poor delivery guy who likes to pretend to be rich. How could he afford to buy a house here?"
James retorted, "Who told you I couldn't afford to buy a house?"
If it were the old James, he would have ignored Evelyn. But now, James wasn't worried about his identity being exposed at all.
"Don't you know if you have money or not?" Evelyn replied disdainfully.
"I was thinking of giving you the house you reserved out of respect for Mr. Murphy, but since you said that, forget it. You won't get a single house here. I'll take them all!" James shouted dominantly and then turned to Pamela, "Miss Gray, swipe the card!"
"Yes, Mr. Smith!" Pamela quickly nodded and inserted the card into the POS machine.
Evelyn was stunned by James' sudden dominance, standing there in a daze, not knowing where he got the courage to say such things.
