Chapter 10: Lawrence Group building
Three days later.
Sebastian hadn’t returned to the mansion after their last encounter, outside the study. Isabella didn't expect that Sebastian would disappear for a whole three days as soon as he left in a hurry.
During breakfast, she received a call from Emily, which served as a much-needed distraction.
Isabella poked at the toast on her plate with her fork. "I've been grounded." She complained to Emily.
"Did you have a fight with Sebastian?" Emily asked curiously.
"How could I dare? He left on his own without telling me where he was going and forbade me from going out."
Emily thought for a moment. "Could he be secretly meeting a woman?"
"If he wanted to meet a woman, does he need to avoid me?"
"You're his legal wife, of course he has to avoid you, or else it wouldn't end well." Emily said, "I recently got a voice acting job, do you have time?"
Emily's main job was real estate sales, and her side job was a voice actor.
Isabella and her had met through online voice acting. It was just that at that time, Emily did it to support her family, while Isabella did it out of interest.
Now, times have changed, and Miss Wallace needs to earn some money from this as well.
"Sure." Isabella agreed. "Why didn't you tell me earlier? I've been bored to death these past few days."
"I thought you and Boss Boy were happily enjoying your newlywed life, how could I be so rude to disturb you? Who knew you were living in an empty house alone."
"Do you have to describe me as a resentful woman?"
Emily burst into laughter. "Hahaha, just kidding. I'll send it to your email, check it out."
"Okay."
Isabella hung up the phone and was about to open her email when another call came in.
The two words "Sebastian calling” appeared particularly glaring.
She answered the call but didn't speak yet. His slightly hoarse voice came through: "Who were you talking to just now?"
How did he know she was on the phone just now? Did he install surveillance?
As if he knew what she was thinking, Sebastian spoke again: "I called you when you were on the phone, you pig."
He called her a pig, but Isabella somehow sensed... a touch of indulgence?
She must be going crazy. Being called a pig and still feeling satisfied.
"I was talking to a friend," Isabella answered, "Are you back?"
"Yeah."
She immediately asked, "Can I go out now?"
"You don't care when I come home, but you're only concerned about... when you can go out?"
"Alright," she complied with his wishes and asked, "When will you be home?"
"At night. I'm at the office now," Sebastian said, "Come over."
Isabella reluctantly asked, "Should I come now?" a hint of slight confusion in her voice.
"Yeah." Was the short reply.
Isabella grinned at the screen of her phone. She was like a servant, so difficult to please.
Lawrence Group.
The towering and magnificent office building, a whole building owned by the Lawrence Group. Everyone working here has at least a graduate degree, even the front desk receptionist.
She should be particularly polite and charming, with a sweet smile. Isabella had not even stepped inside the door on her first visit.
Before she was stopped by a security guard who said, "Hello, please show me your ID card."
"...I'm here to see someone," Isabella replied.
"Sorry, only authorized personnel are allowed to enter the Lawrence Group Building," the security guard said. "If you have a friend inside, you can call them to come down and meet you."
Someone approached her and smiled at the security guard. "How dare you call Mrs. Lawrence 'just anyone'? She's someone very important to Mr. Lawrence, you know."
Isabella turned her head to look.
A tall man in a suit stood there, with a gentle smile on his face. There was even a hint of playfulness in his eyes.
His high nose and outstanding demeanor made him stand out, not even the slightest bit inferior to Sebastian.
Those slightly upturned peach blossom eyes were truly captivating to women.
There were many people who knew her, but very few knew that she was Mrs. Lawrence.
The security guard became a bit flustered. "Mr. Johnson... General Johnson, you mean that this lady is Mr. Lawrence's wife?"
"Yes, she is. However, this is her first visit, so it's understandable that you don't recognize her."
"Do...do you know me?" Isabella asked. "Have we met before?"
"I have seen you, but you have not seen me."
"I know who you are now," Isabella looked at him, "You are Joshua, right?"
Joshua was curious, "How did you guess?"
"I have some discernment," Isabella said with a smile. You are quite clever," Joshua said. "Are you here to find Sebastian?"
Isabella corrected him, "I didn't come to find Sebastian, he asked me to come."
"Oh..." he said, as if pondering. "So, as soon as President Bo returned home, because he was tied up with work and couldn't come home, he called you to come and couldn't wait to see his lovely young wife?"
What? Sebastian went abroad?
He hadn't been in the country for the past three days!
Isabella was astonished in her heart, but she didn't show anything on her face and just smiled, saying, "I suppose so”
He was referred to as General Johnson by the security guard, and he knew that she was Sebastian's wife. Wasn't he Joshua, whom Amber described as someone who loves to create chaos?
"Thank you, General Johnson."
"No need to be polite. Helping you means helping Sebastian," Joshua replied, and casually added, "You look even more beautiful than when I saw you at the café last time."
What! The café! Wasn't that the time when Isabella looked like a completely different person?
She lowered her head and forced a dry laugh. "I apologize for appearing that way in front of General Johnson."
Joshua walked inside, "Mrs. Lawrence, it is my honor to show you the way."
"Thank you, Mr. Johnson."
In the elevator, Joshua pressed the floor number for her. "Sebastian is on the first floor. I have something else to take care of, so I won't escort you there."
"Alright, thank you."
Joshua got off on the twenty-third floor, and at the elevator entrance, his assistant was waiting.
Isabella went directly to the top floor. There were staff members coming and going, but no one paid much attention to her. Everyone was busy, rushing around with stacks of documents, making her look... idle.
She would find it herself, she recognized the words "President's Office."
"Madam?" Just as Isabella saw the sign and was about to go over quickly, Kaine noticed her and exclaimed, "You're here."
This exclamation made all the previously bustling staff members come to a standstill.
Madam? Mr. Lawrence's wife, was the hushed consensus.
Mr. Lawrence got married quietly? When did that happen!
Who is this woman? She looks unfamiliar, I've never seen her by Mr. Lawrence's side before! Were some of the employees speculations, while quietly staring at Isabella.
The front-runner for Mrs. Lawrence was supposed to be Grace, and the popular A-list actress, Amber, right? How did this woman successfully rise to the top?
Why... how can this be?
Amber was active in the entertainment industry, but she never publicly acknowledged her position as the Lawrence family's Miss.
She wanted to keep a low profile, so very few people knew about her relationship with Sebastian, and they thought that they... had an unspeakable relationship.
"Kaine." Isabella waved her hand, "Hello..."
“Are you here to see Mr. Lawrence?”
It's not like she came to the company to show off her status. Sebastian is the one who asked her to come. Everyone thinks she came to see Sebastian. She is too tired to even comment on it.
"Yes," Isabella nodded resignedly, "I'll find him, he's probably in his office."
"Mr. Lawrence went to inspect the Marketing Department, he'll probably be back in about ten minutes," Kaine said. "Please go inside and have a seat, Madam. What would you like to drink?"
"Just a glass of warm water will do."
"Alright," Kaine acknowledged, holding the door open for her. "Please wait here."
The office was adorned with a simple and sophisticated grey color scheme, exuding the same aura as Sebastian himself.
Huge floor-to-ceiling windows faced the entrance, almost capturing the entire city within their view. Sunlight poured in, casting a warm glow on the plush woolen carpet.
The secretary brought water and snacks, and couldn't help but glance at her a few times, but Isabella acted as if she hadn't noticed.
After half an hour, the door lock clicked, and Sebastian walked in, looking tired.
Tired and having returned from a three-day trip abroad, Isabella couldn't help but wonder what exactly Sebastian had been up to. However, she knew better than to ask.
"Why did you call me over? Is there something you wanted to discuss?" She watched as he poured a glass of water. "Couldn't we have talked about it at home?"
After finishing his drink, Sebastian coughed a few times, taking out some medicine from the drawer and swallowing it with water.
"Are you catching a cold?" Isabella asked with concern. "You really need to take better care of yourself."
Sebastian sat down, bending over slightly. "No need, just a slight cold."
Nothing is more important than one's health. It can't withstand such mistreatment," she said. "If Lawrence family finds out, they'll think I haven't taken good care of you."
Speaking of the Lawrence family, Isabella remembered something else. "How did you explain your last absence to the Lawrence family? You're not blaming me for it again, are you?"
"Yes," Sebastian nodded. "I said you were shy, timid, and embarrassed, and that you didn't feel comfortable. I waited for you."
"When you're ready, then we will go."
"Are you serious?"
He retorted, "Do I look like I'm joking?"
"Sebastian!" Isabella was a little angry. "Clearly, it's your own matter. Why do you have to use me as a shield?"
"You're serious?"
"This way, you're tarnishing my reputation, damaging my image. By then, your grandfather, brother, parents, and the like will think of me as a bothersome person..."
"I was joking."
Isabella's words got stuck in her throat, unable to come out. She became even angrier. "Sebastian, is it fun playing with me?"
He raised an eyebrow and chuckled softly, but he didn't laugh for long. His throat started to feel itchy, so he had to bring his hand up to his mouth, coughing a few times.
Isabella looked at him. "Serves you right!"
Reaching behind him, Sebastian retrieved a document and handed it to her. "Take a look at this."
"What is it?" Isabella took it and saw the words on the cover, "Business Proposal?"
"Deliver it to your father. He will understand once he reads it," Sebastian replied. Isabella was clueless when it came to managing the company. She thought that the Wallace Group's current situation could only be solved with money, but she didn't expect there to be another way
"Also, if he has any needs, he can directly seek assistance from Kaine. Kaine will do everything he can to help him."
"Alright."
Sebastian leaned back on the sofa, massaging his temples. "The director of the Public Relations Department will be coming over later to discuss how we can publicly announce our marriage news."
