Chapter 33 Shut up, will you?
Lawrence Group.
Kaine followed alongside Sebastian, holding an iPad, while reporting on today's itinerary and awaiting the elevator.
Mr. Lawrence aside from the rest of his family seems to be relatively normal, in a much better mood compared to the past couple of days.
Hmm... it must be because he didn't have a quarrel with his wife.
"Ding—" The elevator door opened slowly, and Brittany walked out from inside.
"Miss Everly," Kaine exclaimed immediately, "Good morning."
Kaine changed his previous thoughts in his mind. What could Mr. Lawrence's hardships and setbacks compare to? The romantic history between this director and the charming Mr. Sinclair, now that is truly a remarkable and extraordinary tale.
These two individuals were originally blessed with exceptional talent and captivating beauty, naturally destined for each other.
However, unexpectedly, they broke up and ended up in a very strained situation.
There is a rumor going around that Mr. Sinclair was caught red-handed by Miss Everly when he cheated on his partner.
Moreover, it is rumored that the woman in question is none other than Miss. Everly's cousin.
Just half a month after their breakup, Mr. Sinclair found a new love, who happens to be Miss. Everly's cousin.
"Good morning, Kaine," Brittany said with a smile, nodding gently. She then turned her gaze towards Sebastian and asked, "Mr. Lawrence, do you have any availability at 10 o'clock?"
Sebastian stretched his legs and stepped into the elevator - "There's one available now."
Brittany immediately followed him inside upon hearing that: "It's some things from the design department..."
"Design department?" Sebastian interrupted her, "Isn't this department under Joshua's responsibility?"
“Mr. Sinclair is not at the office today.”
"Not here?" Sebastian turned his head towards Kaine.
Kaine nodded, "Yes, Mr. Lawrence, I didn't see Mr. Sinclair today either. It seems that he had some personal matters to attend to."
Brittany chuckled lightly and said, "It's nothing really, it seems that Mr. Sinclair is planning to accompany his fiancée to try on wedding gowns."
Sebastian remained silent, but as he pushed open the office door, he spotted a man sitting lazily on the couch.
Joshua turned his head and said, "Mr. Lawrence, it's already nine o'clock and you're just now arriving at the company. You're late! You made me wait for you..."
Brittany maintained a serene smile and said, "I apologize for interrupting, but I was wondering since Mr. Sinclair is here. Mr. Lawrence, I will find you at ten."
"No need." Joshua stood up and said, "I'm leaving."
"How can one possibly feel justified in doing so?"
Joshua said, "Ladies first."
Brittany walked away, saying, "Excuse me, Mr. Lawrence, Mr. Sinclair."
As she returned to her office and closed the door, she let out a sigh of relief, leaning against the wall. She looked up and took a deep breath, feeling completely exhausted.
Bridal gown fittings...
Wow, we've finally reached the stage of discussing marriage. How fast time flies! Not too long ago, a man who had once vowed to her with utmost certainty that he would only marry her, now wanted to hold someone else's hand and step into the sacred union of marriage.
Brittany still remembers vividly the moment she entered the hotel room and laid her eyes on the sight of Joshua and Nicole cuddled up together… It was her worst nightmare come true.
"Knock, knock, knock." The door suddenly rang out, causing Brittany to snap back to reality.
"Come in," she said.
"Cousin," a sweet voice rang out, "long time no see, I've come to visit you."
Brittany, furrowing her brows, asked, "Why are you here?"
Nicole replied, "Brian agreed to accompany me to try on wedding dresses today, but he had some last-minute matters at work, so he came over first. I thought of waiting for him at the office until he finishes his tasks, and then we can go to the bridal shop together."
"Why don’t you go to his office instead of coming to mine?"
Brittany said to her cousin. Nicole smiled innocently and said, "You're not... still angry with me, are you?"
"What do you think?"
"Cousin, you are so beautiful and successful in your career, there are plenty of great men waiting for you to choose," Nicole said. "You will have a wonderful destiny laid out for you."
Brittany pointed towards the door and uttered, "Leave. I have made it abundantly clear that I never want to see Joshua again in this lifetime, and likewise, I have no desire to lay eyes upon you!"
Nicole's smile slowly froze: "Brittany, it's not that I'm intentionally stirring up trouble. If you truly wanted to distance yourself, why would you still remain at Lawrence Group? You should leave New York, go far away, and the farther, the better."
"Am I even bothering you by staying in Lawrence Group?"
Nicole replied, “I simply hope that your words align with your actions.”
"I will absolutely not take the initiative to meet him. If it happens by chance, then it is beyond my control." Brittany suddenly tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Moreover... why isn't it him leaving Lawrence Group?"
"Are you out of your mind? He is the Senior Vice President of Lawrence Group, and he holds shares!"
"Are you crazy? Do you have nothing better to do than come here and seek attention?"
Nicole had something else to say, but suddenly stopped and said, "Alright then. Since my cousin doesn't welcome me here, I might as well leave."
Bye!
Joshua came back from Sebastian's office and saw Nicole standing in front of his desk, looking closely at something.
His expression slightly changed, "Who gave you permission to touch my belongings?"
"Isn't it Brittany's photo?" Nicole said. "Why is it such a precious thing? I can't even touch it?"
Joshua snatched it away, tossed it into the drawer and closed it tightly, a visible anger lingering in his eyes.
Nicole raised her hand to hold his arm gently, saying, "I won't bother translating next time... What's the point, really?"
He cast a cold, disdainful glance at her.
"I just went to see her," Nicole said, "and the look in her eyes, it was even colder and more disdainful towards me than yours."
"You want to go find her? What are you planning to do?"
"Feeling tense?" Joshua's entire aura suddenly turned cold. "Nicole, are you looking for trouble, right?"
"Oh, feeling sorry for me? Well, I guess... Brittany is the apple of your eye, the person you love so much that it's a matter of life and death. You adore her like no other, how could you bear to see me provoke her?"
He firmly grasped Nicole's wrist and warned, "I caution you not to provoke her!"
"But, you were the one who provoked me first."
"Listen up!" he repeated sharply, "Answer me!"
Nicole was taken aback by his words, "Since you love her so much, why don't you go after her? Cry, kneel down, repent, apologize, do whatever it takes to make her forgive you! Why waste your time arguing with me here when you are already engaged!"
"I'm telling you, Nicole, if there's another time, I won't spare you at all."
Joshua forcefully pushed her away and walked away with a composed expression on his face.
Nicole grabbed hold of his sleeve and asked, "Where are you going?"
Joshua replied, “To start the meeting."
"What about the wedding dress fitting?" she said, "You promised to accompany me!"
"Sorry, I'm busy," Joshua gently pried her fingers apart, "Go by yourself, wear whatever you want to wear."
He still loved Brittany, loved her to the core, loved her so much that even in his dreams he called out Brittany's name...
And what about her, from start to finish, what does she count for!
His tendency to behave recklessly after drinking?
