Chapter 120: The Date of Your Engagement Has Been Determined

Quick reactions, swift movements, and precise accuracy were required, and whatever Sebastian wanted, Isabella had to hand it to him within three seconds!

This was really mentally taxing!

"A pen," Sebastian extended his hand.

Isabella was about to hand it over when she noticed, out of the corner of her eye, another pen in his suit pocket. "Don't you already have one?" she asked.

He simply stubbornly replied, "A pen."

How peculiar!

Isabella gave him her own pen and took a closer look at his pocket.

That pen seemed somewhat familiar... Wasn't it the one she bought?

Sebastian actually carried it with him, how strange!

Finally enduring until Sebastian uttered the words "meeting adjourned," Isabella breathed a sigh of relief.

She shouldn't trouble herself anymore in the future.

"Who would've thought Mrs. Lawrence was so versatile," Joshua, seated in the first position to the lower right, tapped his fingers on the desk.

"Mr. Lawrence... you’ve really struck gold."

Sebastian gave him a cold glance.

Unafraid of death, Joshua continued, "Mrs. Lawrence, have you upgraded from secretary to assistant? Even Kaine might be squeezed out by you..."

Isabella smiled superficially in response, "Kaine is too busy, I'm just helping him out."

"I'm tired just watching, Mr. Lawrence, don't you feel sorry for her?"

Though Joshua had a slightly sharp tongue, Sebastian had ways to deal with him.

"Brittany," he calmly spoke up. "Stay behind."

Brittany, who was packing up conference materials and preparing to leave, paused at his words.

"Mr. Lawrence, what is it?"

"I'm not entirely satisfied with the recent design proposals from the design department."

Brittany lowered her eyes. "What needs improvement?"

"Let's chat about it."

Since Sebastian had spoken, Brittany couldn't refuse.

However, Joshua was still sitting there, showing no intention of leaving.

He glanced at Brittany; his eyes filled with hidden affection.

"Oh, by the way," Sebastian suddenly said again. "Joshua, I heard the date for your engagement has been determined."

Isabella's heart skipped a beat as she looked at Brittany.

Brittany, on the other hand, remained calm, sitting in her own place, head lowered, seemingly uninterested in this conversation.

Under the table, Joshua kicked Sebastian.

Why bring up something irrelevant!

"Yes," Joshua gritted his teeth but smiled. "When the time comes, I'll personally deliver the invitation to Mr. Lawrence and Mrs. Lawrence."

"No need to be formal."

With a puzzled expression, Isabella couldn't help but ask, “So Joshua is getting engaged, that's great news. But why not just have the wedding immediately? I think engagement is a bit unnecessary.”

“This is the normal process,” Joshua replied, “Not everyone can have a spontaneous marriage like you and Mr. Lawrence.”

“Normal process?” Isabella was taken aback.

“Don't you know?” Joshua continued, “You were also going to get engaged to Marcus before, instead of getting married immediately.”

This time, it was Sebastian's turn to kick Joshua under the table.

Seeing Sebastian's displeasure, Joshua couldn't help but elaborate, “In the prestigious mansions of New York, there is a fixed process for weddings. Engagement, betrothal, registration, and finally the wedding ceremony.”

Isabella laughed, “Yes, traditionally speaking, proper courtship has its rules and customs, which reflects respect. Like Sebastian and myself, it indeed wasn't the best approach.”

As Joshua said this, Isabella seemed to understand something.

Sebastian loves Lynda but they haven't been together yet, probably because he wants to marry her in a more formal way.

Lawrence Family's approval is needed, serving tea, engagement, betrothal ceremony, and then the registration and wedding ceremony.

Seeing her gloomy expression, along with Sebastian's sharp gaze, Joshua couldn't bear it any longer.

He quickly said, “You're not lacking anything, Isabella, really. Although there aren't these steps like engagement, the Lawrence Family highly approves of you, and Sebastian even publicly announced the marriage news. The wedding ceremony will happen sooner or later, with everything that should be there.”

Seeing that the atmosphere still wasn't right, he added a few more words, “Sebastian will definitely give you the traditional customs and a grand wedding. Just the sequence has been rearranged. You'll get registered and married first, then the betrothal ceremony and the wedding. It's the same.”

“Haha,” Isabella shrugged, “maybe.”

Brittany suddenly spoke up, “If Joshua doesn't know how to speak properly, he should just say less. It only makes everyone awkward, so why bother?”

Joshua cleared his throat a few times.

“Mr. Lawrence,” Brittany stood up, “If there's any problem, let's discuss it privately. It seems like you're busy now, I'll go back to work.”

Without waiting for Sebastian's approval, she walked out.

Seeing this, Isabella took the opportunity to say, “I think Mr. Lawrence and Joshua seem to have something to discuss. I'll give them some space.”

Sebastian furrowed his eyebrows, “Isabella!”

Ignoring his objection, she quickly followed after Brittany and ran out.

Joshua slammed the folder he had in his hands onto the table, “Sebastian, have I done something to offend you, causing you to cancel my engagement?”

"Say it in front of Brittany!"

"But didn't you mock me first?"

"Well... fine, you win."

Sebastian leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "You're not wrong, Joshua."

"Did you not see the expression on her face? And you say I didn't lose? Isn't that a win for me?"

"The news of your engagement has been circulating for a while now. It's just a matter of confirming the specific date, but Brittany is still unhappy," he said. "Doesn't that indicate that she has feelings for you?"

Joshua was taken aback. Sebastian's words seemed to have some truth to them.

"She knew in advance that you and Nicole were getting engaged, she had an idea, but she couldn't control herself and it showed," Sebastian raised an eyebrow. "She still loves you, Joshua."

"Maybe she's just genuinely upset. After all, who wouldn't be unhappy when their ex-boyfriend, who cheated on her, is getting engaged to her cousin? Especially someone as proud as her."

Although the Everly family wasn't a grand wealthy dynasty, their financial situation was still quite solid.

Brittany had excelled academically since childhood and was beautiful, coasting through life with a trace of arrogance.

The news of Joshua and Nicole's engagement was a heavy blow for her, and it made her lose face even in New York. She couldn't hold her head high.

Sebastian looked at him. "You should seriously reflect on whether what you did was right or wrong."

"There's no absolute right or wrong." Joshua forced a self-deprecating laugh. "Once I decided to do this, I had to see it through."

"Do you really want to get engaged? Have you thought it through?"

"If you can have the audacity to get married and obtain a marriage certificate, what's wrong with me getting engaged?"

Sebastian's eyebrows furrowed even tighter. "Isabella is different from Brittany."

"What's different?"

"You love Brittany," he said, "and I..."

And Sebastian, he didn't love Isabella.
