Chapter 281 Secret Plan
Brittany continued to sip the extremely bitter coffee and nodded. "Not bad at all. He's an older student, and I helped him back then, so we've been in contact ever since," she said.
Isabella looked around to make sure there were no bodyguards sent by Sebastian before whispering, "So, he's trustworthy?"
"Isabella, what are you planning?" Brittany immediately became serious. "Do you want to... terminate it?"
"No, no, no." Isabella hastily shook her head and denied, smiling with a glimmer of happiness in her eyes. Her voice was barely audible, as if afraid of disturbing something. "I'm actually pregnant with twins," she revealed.
Even someone as composed as Brittany couldn't help but exclaim at this news, "Twins?"
"Yes!" Isabella lowered her voice so that only they could hear. "So, I plan to keep it a secret and hide one of them. That way, after we part ways, maybe... I can leave with one of the babies."
But Brittany firmly shook her head, and said, "Isabella, you can't keep it a secret. You can't hide it from Mr. Lawrence."
Her words were direct, completely dismissing Isabella's plan.
Isabella hung her head without further argument. "This plan really won't work, huh?" she asked.
Although she knew the likelihood was slim, she still clung to a glimmer of hope, only to be doused by Brittany's cold water.
Seeing Isabella's listless appearance, Brittany felt sad as well, unable to offer much help. She asked, "Hasn't your relationship with Mr. Lawrence improved recently? From what I've seen, it seems like things have gotten better between you."
"No," Isabella smiled bitterly. "He and I... are just putting on an act."
"Acting?" Brittany asked.
Isabella replied, "Yes, Sebastian confessed to me a week ago. He said he liked me."
"Confessed?" Brittany questioned, puzzled.
Isabella looked out onto the bustling streets, feeling the bitterness of her heart and the bitterness of the coffee meld into one. After a light laugh, she turned her face and answered Brittany's question, "Yes, he confessed, but it was all an act on his part."
Brittany furrowed her brows in doubt. Perhaps, as an outsider, she felt that it didn't quite add up. Sebastian didn't seem like the type to casually speak of love; he had always been deep and reserved.
"Are you sure?" Brittany asked.
Isabella was very certain, and said, "I am. But he wants to continue the charade, so I'll play along. Deceiving each other is enough."
There were things Brittany didn't know, so she didn't bring them up.
However, Isabella said lightly, seemingly indifferent, "At that time, I almost believed his words, so happy that it caused sudden pain in my stomach. That was when I needed him. But when I called him, he didn't answer.
I went to the hospital and coincidentally, I saw him carrying Lynda into the hospital. The anxious and worried look... I've never seen it in front of me. Isn't it ironic? Oh, and there were still lipstick marks left by Lynda on Sebastian's collar, so obvious."
As the conversation went on, Isabella's voice got quieter, as if it was stuck in her throat and couldn't come out.
After finishing, Isabella felt completely drained of energy. Her hands rested on the table, and even the slightest movement was difficult.
Brittany barely understood and once she did, it felt like a knife stabbed her heart.
Although no one could truly understand how another person feels, Brittany was familiar with this situation.
Isn't this just a copy of Joshua and Nicole?
Brittany quickly grabbed Isabella's hand and held it tightly, saying, "It's in the past, it can be over."
Isabella smirked contemptuously, saying, "Yeah, it's in the past, don't worry about me. Besides, it's common to get wet shoes when walking by the river. Sebastian has fooled me many times, who still believes him? I stopped believing him a long time ago."
Brittany remarked, "Isabella, don't deceive yourself in front of me."
Isabella pretended to be resolute and indifferent, not wanting Brittany to be hurt for her. She gave a cold snort, "I'm not deceiving you. I really didn't have any expectations or feelings for him. What you've seen recently is all an act. We're all acting, let's see who's the better actor."
She said it with conviction, whether it was for Brittany's sake or herself.
"Isabella, you..." Brittany couldn't bear it, "Why do you torture yourself like this?"
Torture?
Of course.
Very torturous.
Isabella was desperate for an outlet to talk about her feelings, and Brittany was the best choice.
But her pride only allowed her to say, "Right now, I just want to figure out why he's lying to me again and pretending to be with me. In doing so, I'll catch him in the act and get what I want. As you said, the previous plan won't work because it's useless to hide it from him, so it's better to rely on genuine skills."
Brittany didn't know how to console her at all. She looked down and took a bitter sip of her coffee.
The two remained silent, and the air was filled with bitterness and pain.
"Isabella, don't deny it. You still love him. Since you still love him, don't say these words that repeatedly hurt yourself," Brittany pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Isabella, "Perhaps, crying it out would be more relieving than repeatedly saying hurtful things."
Isabella didn't respond, her eyes were a little red, but she held back her tears.
She forced a smile, although, this smile was uglier than crying.
"I learned a new technique, and it's quite useful." Isabella raised an eyebrow, trying to raise her spirits, "Come, let me teach you," she said.
Isabella crossed her arms and sat up straight, like an elementary school student.
Brittany became slightly interested and followed her movements.
They saw Isabella slowing down her breathing rate and slowly mouthing, "I don't love Sebastian, Isabella doesn't love Sebastian..."
Brittany pursed her lips, quietly watching Isabella.
Gradually, she also closed her eyes and childishly repeated in her mind, "I don't love Joshua, Brittany doesn't love Joshua."
The cafe played soft background music, like a feather sweeping across their hearts, relieving some of the heaviness that was weighing on their chests.
At the same time, the two opened their eyes and made eye contact.
"Hehe," they laughed.
they both found humor in adversity.
"Bzzz—" Brittany's phone rang at the perfect time.
Brittany answered the call and exchanged a few brief words before hanging up.
"Are they here?" Isabella asked.
Brittany answered, "Yes, let's go."
Isabella stood up and followed behind Brittany.
As they got up, the man sitting at the table next to them, wearing a cap, also stood up simultaneously.
