Chapter 469 I Don't Love You Anymore, You Can't Hurt Me
"Since I'm such a promiscuous woman, can we just get a divorce? I'll step aside for the future Mrs. Lawrence. You deserve someone better."
Sebastian stood up, straightened his clothes, and fixed his cufflinks. He looked down at her, calm and collected. "Not happening. From now on, you're staying at Willowbrook Estate. Try to leave, and I'll break your legs."
Isabella stared at the ceiling, feeling a bit out of it.
She thought she heard a lullaby Laura used to sing to her when she was little—Baby, baby,
My dear baby,
Mommy's hands,
Gently rocking you,
The night is deep,
Baby, go to sleep,
Baby.
A blurry image of Laura's face popped into her mind, and a faint smile crept onto her lips.
She wondered, 'Whose baby am I?'
She used to be Laura's baby, but Laura passed away early, leaving her behind.
She used to be Rex's baby, but Rex remarried, and she got a stepmother.
She was also Janet's baby, but Janet was gravely ill. How much longer could she stay with her?
And then, she became Sebastian's baby.
But once the truth came out, the love Sebastian had for her turned into something ugly. She was never really his baby.
In his eyes, she was just a shameless, dirty woman.
Life was never fair.
Isabella said, "I'm leaving anyway. I will get a divorce, Sebastian, I will definitely get a divorce!"
After a brief pause, Isabella continued, "You don't need to say these things. I don't love you anymore, so you can't hurt me. Only love can cause pain."
Sebastian's dark eyes showed his pain, but it was nothing compared to his anger.
He said, "Fine."
Then, he stared at Isabella's face, took out his phone, and in a cold voice, said, "Release Lynda immediately, send her back to Pine Ridge Gardens, and let her rest well. Also, tell her that what happened at the engagement club was my fault, and I will continue to protect her in the future."
If Isabella hadn't heard it with her own ears, she wouldn't have believed it.
But it was true.
She thought, 'Does it hurt? Yeah, but so what? Does anyone care? Does anyone feel pain because I do?'
Isabella felt so suffocated with pain that she could hardly breathe. She forced herself to endure it, but her face remained calm and indifferent.
She pulled the thin sheet over herself, lying in bed, and with a mocking smile, said, "I told you I don't love you anymore. Whatever you do with Lynda has nothing to do with me. I won't be jealous. You're so childish."
Sebastian saw Isabella's mocking expression and heard her sarcastic words. He gripped his phone tightly.
The phone seemed particularly fragile, as if it would break in the next second.
"You said it."
She nodded, "I said it."
Isabella's words were like adding fuel to the fire. Sebastian's temple throbbed with anger, and he stormed out, slamming the door again.
Isabella was used to the door slamming.
She slowly closed her eyes, thinking, 'If only I could sleep and never wake up, peacefully, without being affected by anything.'
The thought was tempting, but Isabella knew she couldn't think that way. She was still young, and the future held endless possibilities.
She was fighting against Sebastian, and she was sure he wouldn't tolerate her for long. This marriage would soon be over. And all the pain she went through wasn't for nothing. At least it would slowly chip away at her love for Sebastian.
Isabella smiled to herself, thinking, 'Besides, Sebastian's gonna feel the pain too.'
Sebastian, the mastermind and the one who benefited from this whole mess, was just as tangled up in it.
Isabella didn't doubt that Sebastian loved her, but she didn't want any part of this twisted, hurtful love.
She used to give in, but not anymore!
Plus, Isabella remembered she had said that Lynda's incident was the last time she'd forgive Sebastian's lies.
Her eyes were determined, desperate to break free from this awful marriage!
Sebastian came out of the side room, so mad he was almost stumbling.
Only Isabella could make Sebastian this furious.
"Mr. Lawrence," Kaine, who had driven Sebastian and Joshua to Willowbrook Estate, had been waiting downstairs. After getting the call, he rushed up and asked Sebastian in shock, "Do you really want to release Miss Baker now? Do you really want to say those things?"
Sebastian glanced towards the side room, clenched his fist, and glared dangerously at Kaine. "Do I need to repeat myself?"
Kaine said, "Mr. Lawrence, you went through so much trouble to punish Miss Baker for your wife, and now you want to release her and apologize. Wasn't all your effort in vain?"
Sebastian felt a pang of bitterness, a self-mocking smile on his lips, and he asked, "Does anyone care?"
Kaine stayed silent.
"Do as I say," Sebastian commanded. "Go!"
Kaine sighed inwardly, "Yes, Mr. Lawrence."
At this point, Kaine thought there would be no more twists, but then he suddenly heard Sebastian lower his voice to a whisper, only audible to the two of them, "Two things.
"First, don't say those words. After releasing her, lock her up in Pine Ridge Gardens and find a time to send her abroad. Take her fiancé with her.
"Second, Grace is locked in the basement of Pine Ridge Gardens. Handle it well tonight."
Kaine nodded repeatedly, "Yes!"
He thought, 'Sebastian isn't releasing her; he's clearly torturing her. Those words earlier were definitely said in anger during the argument with Isabella.'
Kaine didn't dare to ask more questions. He got the orders and quickly went to work.
With Sebastian's influence, Lynda was easily taken out.
In the evening, a car slowly drove into Pine Ridge Gardens.
When the car door opened, Lynda hunched over and got out of the passenger seat.
In just a few days, Lynda had become extremely haggard.
She was still wearing the dress from the engagement club. The once luxurious dress was now full of wrinkles, covered in dust, and even had a few dirty handprints.
Her hair, too, hadn't been washed for days and was a bit tangled.
This was a treatment Lynda had never experienced before.
"Miss Baker, go inside." The stern bodyguard opened the door without a hint of gentlemanly demeanor. "Hurry up."
Lynda stared blankly at the bodyguard. At first, her gaze was unfocused, but gradually, it sharpened.
She straightened her back and frowned, "Watch your mouth! Since Sebastian released me, he must have forgiven me!"
