Chapter 253 I Am the Child’s Father

The noise around her woke Isabella. Discovering they had reached their destination, she rubbed her eyes and stood up to disembark, thoroughly ignoring Sebastian.

Sebastian's eyebrows twitched as he glanced at his shoulder, spotting the small drool stains left after her nap…

“Mr. Lawrence, would you like to wipe that off?” Isabella Thompson, who had been watching Sebastian’s every move, offered a tissue to Sebastian when she saw he wasn't getting off the bus. She was ready to seize the opportunity, smiling sweetly as she handed him the tissue.

Sebastian caught her gaze briefly before disembarking the bus without a word, leaving her standing frozen in place. Could her tissue really be more disgusting than Isabella's drool?

Once Isabella stepped off the bus, she sneezed twice in a row. ‘Who's talking about her?’ As she was pondering this, she saw Sebastian step off the bus, his face set in a frown, exuding an air of arrogance. Isabella found it all so absurd, 'who had upset him? Her?’ Shaking her head, Isabella refuted the idea.

But when she noticed the ring of moisture on the right shoulder of Sebastian's clothing, she was taken aback as if struck by lightning.

‘Could it be? Did she cause that?’ Isabella's mind flashed back to her recent awakening on Sebastian’s shoulder! She felt defeated.

‘Isabella, oh Isabella, why did you provoke him again? Haven't you had enough humiliation?’

"Why are you sleeping? Do you think you're a pig? I told you sleeping would cause problems." Isabella scolded herself.

Briefly catching Sebastian's gaze, Isabella immediately turned away, her back to him.

People bustled around, and Isabella thought she could find someone to strike up a conversation with, which would prevent Sebastian from scolding her publicly.

Surprisingly, after she moved forward a few steps, the employees who had been chatting nearby all walked away. Isabella was puzzled, but after some thought, she realized that Sebastian must be behind her, approaching her.

She resigned herself to the situation thinking, "I'll deal with whatever comes."

Other than being called a rolled-up piece of trash, what other insults did Sebastian have up his sleeve? She braced herself for anything he might throw at her.

Isabella steeled her heart, turned around, and attempted to walk away with defiance.

"Ugh…" After barely two steps, she walked straight into a sturdy chest. She grunted, rubbing her nose, and looked up.

Glancing hesitantly at Sebastian, she began, "Mr. Lawrence…"

Sebastian's face was indifferent, and Isabella felt a twinge of fear. She asked, "Did you need to see me for something?" As she finished speaking, Sebastian put a hand on top of her head, tilting it and adjusting the angle of her face.

With that movement, Isabella immediately noticed a damp spot on Sebastian's shoulder.

"Sorry, I’ll make it up to you," she said through gritted teeth.

Sebastian’s cool fingertips trailed down her cheek, causing the fine hairs on her face to stand on end. She felt immobile as if she had been frozen in place.

Suddenly, Sebastian tilted her chin up, leaned towards her to be at eye level, and whispered in her ear, "I'll entertain your idea." With just those three words, he released her and walked past.

Isabella took a long time to regain her composure, her ear still warm from Sebastian’s breath that hadn't yet dissipated.

Dumbfounded, she only came to her senses when Sebastian called for her to hurry up. She then realized that her offer to "make it up to him" had been misunderstood as offering to accompany him.

It didn't matter to her what he thought. It was irrelevant. “Coming,” Isabella responded, turning to follow him.

Behind her, Isabella Thompson stomped her foot hard in frustration. She whined to Thomas Sawyer, “Uncle! When are you going to do something? Look at that wretch! She’s infuriating!”

Thomas Sawyer stared at Isabella’s attractive figure with unabashed lust in his eyes. “It won’t be long now,” he mused.

‘A Chance Meeting at the Cable Car Entrance’

Isabella followed Sebastian up to the entrance of the cable car. There, Sebastian paused and took a moment to survey the scene.

"It seems like everyone else is taking a different route than us," Isabella observed, looking around.

Sebastian handed their tickets to the attendant. "Do you think you can hike? The cable car goes directly to the bonfire area on the other side of this mountain."

Isabella glanced down at her belly, realizing she hadn't thought it through. She caught up with Sebastian and thanked him.

When Sebastian boarded the cable car, he turned and extended his hand, "I'm the father of the child."

The man in front of her had short black hair, a straight nose, and deep-set eyes. Even in casual sports attire, his dignified aura was unmistakable. He spoke so softly and holding out his hand waiting for hers, made them seem like an ordinary couple.

Isabella was enchanted. As she looked at Sebastian's broad palm, her fingers twitched at her side. But, after a moment, she clenched her hands, lowered her head, grabbed the rope, and stepped into the cable car.

Settling in her seat, she offered a faint smile, "My hands aren't clean."

The warmth that had lingered in Sebastian's open palm vanished instantly, and something seemed to sting his heart.

Once they were seated, the cable car began to move.

Isabella maintained a professional demeanor, looking slightly downward and not letting her gaze wander, even though around them came shouts of amazement from other cable cars - her curiosity was piqued.

Unfortunately for her, sitting opposite was a man who seemed to find fault in everything she did. Curiosityis hard to resist.

Overcome by her curiosity, Isabella sneaked a peek at Sebastian who appeared to be sleeping with his eyes closed.

Isabella's lips curled into a smile as she lifted her gaze to take in the surroundings. Shock overcame her when she saw the vast expanse of ocean stretching between the two mountains.

New York never boasted such a vast sea; this was her first sighting, and she was thrilled, tempted to jump for joy.

It was truly breathtaking and spectacular. Her horizons momentarily broadened. Isabella took out her phone and snapped away enthusiastically.

Sebastian, who wasn't truly asleep, had grown tired of Isabella's pretense. True to his expectation, no sooner had he closed his eyes than Isabella reverted to her more lively self.

He smirked to himself in silent amusement.

After getting enough shots of herself, Isabella had a sudden idea. Why not take a photo of Sebastian while he was feigning sleep? They hardly had any pictures together, and after all, even a past relationship deserved to be remembered.

Twisting in her seat to position herself with her back to Sebastian, she raised her phone high, angling it so that both of them could be in the same frame. Then, with a playful touch, she added a rabbit ears effect to the photo.

‘Wearing Bunny Ears’

Isabella couldn't help but grin wide as she aimed for the perfect angle, making sure she looked her very best before preparing to click the shutter and capture the moment.

She turned around to open her gallery.

The photo lay there silently amidst the others. There was Isabella in the picture, beaming with bright eyes, a small face that could fit in the palm of a hand, and now, topped with a pair of bunny ears, her cuteness was undeniable.

Isabella was quite pleased with herself. But then, mid-smile, her expression froze...

Sebastian's eyes were wide open! He was casually leaning against the cable car railing, his hands draped over the edge, his half-lidded gaze fixed on her camera lens.

Isabella's hand trembled, and the phone dropped to the ground with a muffled thud.

A piercing gaze shot down at her from above. There was no way she dared to look up. Biting her lip in haste, Isabella scrambled to retrieve her phone. But to her dismay, Sebastian was one step ahead of her.

"Give it back!" Isabella sat up abruptly, her eyes widened like a startled cat.
