Chapter 187 Raising the Child

Isabella shifted her knees forward, drawing closer to him. "I want you to promise me one thing."
"What is it?"
"Didn't you ask me before what I wanted? What demands I had? Now I have one; I've thought of it."
Her hand was still gripping his tightly. Sebastian's hand was now showing faint red marks from her grasp.
He finally looked at her. "What do you want? Tell me."
"It's simple." Isabella spoke very slowly, "I hope that after the child is born, they can be raised by the Lawrence family."
Sebastian did not expect that her so-called request would be this.
So, he asked incredulously, "What did you say?"
"We are going to have a child. When that time comes, I want you to take the child to the Lawrence family's old house. Let Grandpa raise them, or Dad. Don't leave them at Willowbrook Estate, okay?"
Sebastian's gaze gradually deepened. "The reason?"
"Wouldn't it be nice for you and Lynda to have a world of your own? Besides, you're busy with work and Lynda is frail and sickly, so the child would be a burden to you both," Isabella said. "Giving the child to the Lawrence family is the best option."
The two had been getting along harmoniously these past few days, very tacitly not mentioning the name "Lynda."
Now, Isabella had broken this tacit agreement.
He didn't speak and just quietly looked at her.
But Sebastian's gaze was never simple.
Isabella had long been accustomed to it and still met his eyes, "I only have this one request; can you agree to it?"
"I let you make requests of me for yourself."
"I don't want anything..."
"Why do you want the child to go to the Lawrence family?"
Isabella replied, "I just told you."
"No," Sebastian said, "you didn't tell the truth."
"Really." Isabella withstood his piercing gaze, "If you miss the child, you can always go back to the Lawrence family's old house to visit. Grandpa and Dad, who raised you three Lawrence siblings so well, would surely raise my child to become a great person."
His fingertips brushed under her eyes. "Let's discuss this when you are pregnant."
Isabella was very insistent. "I want to settle this first. Sebastian, promise me, I only have this one request, just one."
After a few seconds of silence, Sebastian asked, "You just said that Lynda and I should have a world of our own, right?"
She nodded.
"Isabella," he asked again, "how do you know that in the future, I will have a world with Lynda?"
Isabella stared at him blankly.
The implication of his words was immense.
Everything Sebastian did was so that he could openly have a relationship with Lynda one day.
And now he was suggesting...
Isabella steadied her heart. "No matter what, I only have this one request, I hope you can agree to it."
"What are you really thinking?" Sebastian said softly, "That's also my child. And, it might be my only child."
How could Isabella say that she trusted him, but not Lynda?
She had lived under the care of a stepmother herself and knew full well the difficulties, so how could she wish for her own child to suffer the same fate?
"So, you won't agree to my request."
"Some things, I can guess what you're thinking without you saying it," Sebastian said lightly, "Isabella, give me some more time."
He guessed why she was so insistent on having the child live at the Lawrence family's old house.
However, he did not point it out.
Isabella just looked at him. "Give you time?"
She was somewhat unable to understand Sebastian, what exactly was he thinking?
"Let's sleep." Sebastian shifted his gaze away, "I'm by your side."
The lights went out, and Sebastian held her, gently patting her back like he was comforting a child, over and over again.
Isabella also lay quietly in his arms, feeling his warmth and lightly smelling the faint scent of him.
It was only the two of them... but each had their own concerns.
…………
Isabella stood in front of the washbasin; her brows tightly furrowed, her hand placed over her heart, and her complexion slightly pale.
Her morning sickness was getting worse.
These past few days, the feeling of nausea and retching came intermittently, and she had nearly let Sebastian find out several times.
It seemed that she could no longer keep it a secret; it was time to come clean with Sebastian.
Thinking about it, she hadn't been with Sebastian for even a year.
Isabella turned off the faucet and looked at herself in the mirror.
She had been about to tell him yesterday, but Lynda's sudden phone call had interrupted her...
Well, now she should go find Sebastian.
Isabella pulled out a tissue, wiped her hands, and her phone pinged with a message.
She took it out and saw that it was a text from an unknown number—
"Meet me at 79, don't stand me up. Cooper."
Marcus?
He was asking to meet her? What for?
And from an unknown number? He was being cautious. Was he afraid Sebastian would find out?
Isabella didn't want to go, nor should she, but then she thought about it—there were too many issues between her and Marcus.
He must have something important to say; otherwise, he wouldn't have contacted her so rashly.
Last time she made it clear, Sebastian had people watching her, and if he found out they met, the Cooper family would not fare well.
After a moment's thought, Isabella deleted the message but remembered the address in her mind.
She hurriedly left the restroom, and as she turned the corner, she wasn't paying attention and bumped right into someone's arms.
The person immediately wrapped their arms around her and placed a hand on her waist, giving her a strong point of support. "What's the rush?"
Isabella looked up. "Sebastian..."
He frowned slightly. "Why are you so pale?"
"It's nothing," she replied. "Just a little stomach bug."
"Let's go to the hospital for a check-up."
Isabella was about to refuse, but then she thought about it and agreed, "Okay, we'll find a time."
If she went straight to the hospital for an examination and it turned out she was pregnant, that would be just fine. She wouldn't have to rack her brains about how to tell Sebastian.
"Why wait?" Sebastian lifted his wrist to glance at his watch, "Let's go now."
"I can't right now."
"Why not?"
"I... I have something to do. I need to step out for a bit," Isabella said. "We can go to the hospital after I get back."
Sebastian looked at her. "Where are you going?"
"I..." Isabella pondered for two seconds, then chose to conceal the truth, "to meet a friend. I'll have something to tell you when I get back."
She wasn't lying this time.
Marcus was her friend, even if the engagement and the feelings were gone, their friendship still existed.
It was just that if Sebastian continued to press her, she didn't know how she would respond.
At that time... she would have no choice but to lie.
