Chapter 61 Why I Went After Mrs. Lawrence
"I'll take you back home," Joshua said.
"Just like that?" she asked.
"Just like that," Joshua nodded. "Otherwise, what did you expect? That I would do something to you after we got to your place? Or perhaps, deep down, you wanted me to do something to you."
Her hatred grew stronger, overwhelming her.
Hate all you want, Brittany. The more you hate, the better it is.
Brittany raised her hand again, but this time Joshua stopped her. "One slap is enough, Brie Brie."
She bit her lip hard, almost drawing blood. She could taste the metallic tang.
"My name is Brittany," she said, each word clear and deliberate. "Not your Brie Brie."
He didn't seem to care and simply asked, "Do you agree to let me take you home?"
Brittany nodded.
If she didn't agree, he would just keep bothering her in the restroom. She knew both the good and bad sides of this man better than anyone else.
"Good, that's a good girl," Joshua chuckled and took a step back. "If you had agreed earlier, none of this would have happened."
Brittany swiftly stood up, not even sparing him a glance, and quickly left through the restroom door.
And so, she naturally ignored the pain in Joshua's eyes.
They headed to the parking lot.
Brittany went to pull open the backseat door, but Joshua stopped her with a firm grip. "Sit in the front."
"The back is fine."
Joshua didn't say anything but directly opened the passenger seat and lifted her onto it.
"Ah!" Brittany exclaimed. His arm wrapped around her waist, she could feel his warmth seeping through the thin fabric of their clothes. It felt familiar and long missed.
"Remember what I said, just do as I say," Joshua fastened her seatbelt. "Otherwise, I'll do it for you."
Brittany just stared at him.
"Don't look at me like that." Joshua said, "We will have to see each other on holidays and special occasions in the future. It wouldn't be good if the elders felt uncomfortable."
"Joshua, I truly hate you."
He just laughed.
They arrived at the underground parking garage of her home. Brittany quickly jumped out of the car, grabbed her luggage, and ran off without looking back.
Joshua watched her fade from his view, but even when she had disappeared, he couldn't bear to take his eyes off her.
"Brittany, actually..." he whispered softly. "I love you."
The rain poured for the whole night, accompanied by thunderous roars, only ceasing at daybreak.
After the rain, the air was fresh and clean.
The sound of rushing rain and booming thunder had kept Isabella awake all night. In a half-awake state, she only knew that Sebastian held her close, his embrace was warm and comforting, carrying a faint scent of grass.
When Isabella woke up and opened her eyes, she saw Sebastian, dressed in sleepwear, walking into the walk-in closet.
Isabella also got up and sat on the bed.
Sebastian changed his clothes and, seeing her in this state, asked softly, "Lost in a daze?"
She scratched her head and murmured, "Every morning I wake up, there's a feeling of not knowing where I am... And when I eventually get used to it, I'm afraid it will be time to leave again."
"Hmm?"
"It's nothing." Isabella smiled and quickly changed the subject, "Starting from today, we're going to the company together, right?"
"Who else would you want to go with?"
"Well then, I'll get up right away."
She got out of bed and passed by Sebastian, only to be pulled back by him.
"What... what are you doing?"
"Tying your tie," he said, "Can you do it?"
"Of course I can."
Sebastian narrowed his eyes dangerously, "How did you learn?"
