Chapter 141 Because I Fell in Love with Someone Else
Isabella froze for a few seconds, then quickly reached out to grab the corner of his clothes.
But before her hand could touch him, Sebastian forcefully pushed her back.
Isabella looked at the red mark on the back of her hand, clenched her teeth, and still chased after him.
She couldn't let Sebastian harm Marcus!
"I didn't answer just now, how can you randomly guess?"
Isabella followed behind him.
"Sebastian, are you even listening to me?"
But he kept walking, already ascending the stairs.
"You have no idea what's going on in my mind!"
"You can't read minds... How can you say that I still love Marcus?"
"Sebastian, can't you be reasonable for once?"
Isabella followed him up the stairs, but he never looked at her, his expression cold and with a hint of hostility.
"Sebastian!"
Helplessly, Isabella had no choice but to run a little, reaching him and blocking his path.
"I'll tell you my answer now! Just listen to me!"
He looked at her expressionlessly.
"Your hesitation is the best answer."
"You're wrong." Isabella said, "My hesitation has never been because I still love Marcus."
"What is it then?"
She bit her lip and replied, "Because I fell in love with someone else."
Sebastian squinted at her, staring.
"And that person... is you."
Isabella's voice trembled noticeably.
"That's why when you asked earlier, I was stunned and unsure how to respond. I was afraid that if I said I didn't love you, you would realize that I actually do."
"Is that so? Then why did you just come out and say it now?"
"Because..."
Sebastian interrupted her sharply, "Because you're lying!"
Isabella looked at him in disbelief.
"You're saying that... I'm lying?"
"Isn't it?"
"I'm not."
Sebastian stepped forward, advancing with each step, pushing Isabella to retreat.
"To save Marcus, to avoid putting me in a difficult spot, Isabella, you can effortlessly and without hesitation say that you love me, just to deceive me..."
"In your heart, Marcus's importance is evident."
"And it's true, you've been in a relationship for many years, known each other since childhood, and even set a wedding date... How can that love just disappear?"
"Even if Marcus is useless and refuses to help, he was still your promised lifelong partner."
As Sebastian continued speaking, Isabella's face grew paler. It wasn't because he hit the mark, but because she felt misunderstood. He didn't believe her.
Sebastian didn't believe that she said... she loved him.
The three words "I love you" were not easily uttered by Isabella, even in her innermost thoughts.
Admittedly, today she finally said it.
Heaven knows how much courage it took for her to speak up.
Although part of her reason was indeed to prevent Sebastian from getting involved with Marcus.
But...She truly loved him, not Marcus.
Isabella was finally forced into a corner by Sebastian, with her back against the cold wall.
The piercing coldness made her tremble all over.
Sebastian stood before her, his facial features... all revealing coldness.
"Is there nothing left to say, Isabella?"
"So, it seems..." She finally found her voice, "that this is what you think of me."
"Did I wrongly accuse you then?"
Isabella nodded; "Yes. You wrongly accused me."
He coldly asked, "Am I supposed to believe that you love me?"
"Whether you believe it or not is up to you. Whether I say it or not is up to me. I've said it, and if you don't believe it," she struggled to suppress the lump in her throat, "there's nothing I can do."
Sebastian lowered his head, trapping her between himself and the wall.
"If there's anything else you want to say, say it all at once. Let me see what lies you can come up with to save Marcus from my grasp."
He believed that her love for him was a lie.
Ironically...
"I have nothing more to say."
"So quickly giving up on your ex-boyfriend whom I'm saving?"
Isabella replied, "If you think I'm lying, then just take it as if I'm lying."
Sebastian's brow slightly furrowed.
When she said she loved him, he admitted that at that moment, his heart suddenly started beating violently.
But the realization that it was just her lie filled him with greater anger.
"You're not the first to lie to me, Isabella."
Sebastian said, "But your previous lies were more sophisticated. This time, you weren't prepared, and in your haste, I saw through it in an instant."
Isabella nodded, "Yes, you're right. I'm reaping what I sowed. In the past, I told you so many lies and managed to fool you, but this time, I miscalculated."
She had told so many lies before, like being on her menstrual cycle and not caring about him being with Lynda, but this time, her genuine words were seen as lies.
This feeling... was too painful.
Sebastian, oh Sebastian, I told so many lies, and you believed them all, but now, when I simply say "I love you," you don't believe me.
Well then, there's nothing else to say.
Sebastian stared into her eyes, watching the light in them gradually dim, until finally... there was no light, no brightness, and no life.
"Save the 'I love you' for another time, like tomorrow or maybe, if you're in a rush, say it before bed at night, so that it might make me feel something." he said, "Understand?"
"I understand."
"Look at me."
Isabella obediently raised her head and met his gaze.
"Will you still meet Marcus in the future?"
"Never in this lifetime," Isabella replied.
"Are you satisfied? But what if he comes to see me?"
"I know which meetings are intentional and which are chance encounters better than you do."
"That's good," she chuckled softly.
"Otherwise, if we were to accidentally run into each other, you would interrogate me and I wouldn't be able to explain clearly."
"Do I seem like an unreasonable person?"
"You, Mr. Lawrence, would never be unreasonable," Isabella said. "Let it go this time. You're a magnanimous person. Why bother with Marcus? You don't even need to confront him and risk your own well-being."
Sebastian frowned again.
"Even at this point, you still want to save him."
"I don't want any more involvement with him. If you touch him, then all those people from the Cooper family will swarm around me, making it even harder for me to break free from him."
"You make a valid point."
Isabella smiled sweetly. "So, are you satisfied?"
Sebastian lowered his head, a hint of inexplicable meaning flashed in his eyes.
"You don't love him, so this is the right thing to do, the answer that satisfies me."
