Chapter 313 I Could Do Nothing But Endure
She raised her hand and touched Isabella's forehead. "As a mother-to-be, you should be more careful, gentle, and ladylike. I'm just too excited and happy, that's all."
Listening to her grandmother's gentle and indulgent voice, Isabella felt a warm sensation inside.
She pushed away Sebastian's hand, which was holding her, and threw herself into old Mrs. Wallace's arms. She turned some of the bitterness and pain into a display of affection. "Even if I become a mother, I'm your granddaughter forever, needing your love for a lifetime."
The old lady's eyes were full of affection as she gently patted Isabella's back. "You're already grown up, yet you still act like a child. Aren't you afraid of Sebastian making fun of you?"
Sebastian stood silently by the bed, feeling like an outsider, watching the intimate scene between the grandmother and granddaughter. He could only feel a strong sense of displeasure.
Even if it was all an act, Isabella had never been this close to him before. Sebastian slowly held her hand, suppressing the overwhelming possessiveness in his chest.
He raised his hand and patted Isabella's hair, smiling as he spoke to Mrs. Wallace, "Isabella is like this at home too, just like a child."
Isabella's back stiffened, and she felt a shiver run down her spine. What was Sebastian saying?
She almost wanted to applaud his incredible acting skills.
Nancy's smile grew wider. She pushed Isabella away and held Sebastian's and Isabella's hands, gently intertwining them.
"That's wonderful," Mrs. Wallace's eyes glistened with tears as she gratefully looked at Sebastian. "Sebastian, I've entrusted my dear granddaughter to you. I beg you, take good care of her and give her a home."
"I'm old. I can't take care of her for long. You will have to protect her and be her support.."
Sebastian tightened his grip on Isabella's hand, his large hand enveloping her small one. "Don't worry, Isabella and I will be fine."
"Wow, you two are really in love," Mrs. Wallace laughed like a naughty child. "This is so wonderful. It makes my day."
As if feeling that this wasn't enough to express her joy, Nancy added, "I haven't been this happy in many years. Seeing you happy with each other is even better than taking all those health supplements."
Isabella felt a pang of sadness in her heart. The happier her grandmother was, the more guilty and sorrowful she felt. It was all fake, just a means for Sebastian to continue manipulating her, to make her too afraid to divorce or defy him.
He succeeded. How could she leave when Mrs. Wallace was so happy seeing them together?
"Grandma, you shouldn't get too excited," Isabella said gently, taking her hand away from Sebastian's palm and looking earnestly at the old lady. "Do you forget what the doctor advised?"
Though it was an admonishment, her voice was gentle and soothing.
Sebastian displeased, closed his empty hand. He detested how Isabella cared so much about anyone other than him.
Suddenly, he spoke, "I asked the nurse, and it seems that Grandma's health hasn't fully recovered. Maybe we should consider changing to another nursing home."
Sebastian's words sounded gentle, but Isabella felt cold. Changing to another nursing home... Who knew if it meant she would never seen Mrs. Wallace again? Her grandmother would become a complete tool in Sebastian's hands.
Isabella didn't know what she had done to provoke Sebastian again, leading him to threaten her so abruptly.
Shameless and despicable!
Isabella looked at Sebastian, deliberately raising an eyebrow, and refused, "No need. Grandma is not conducive for a transfer. Besides, her condition is gradually improving, so there's no need for such trouble."
The more Nancy looked at her grandson-in-law, the more satisfied she felt. She agreed, "Isabella is right. You have enough to handle with your big company. Don't worry about these trivial matters. I'm fine."
Sebastian smiled at Isabella, "Since Grandma says so, let's leave it at that for now."
His change in demeanor was truly fast!
Isabella silently sneered in her heart, not wanting her grandmother to be in the same space as Sebastian.
In a few words, Isabella got up from the bed and said with a smile, "Grandma, we're disturbing your rest. We'll head back now. I'll come to see you again another day."
Old Mrs. Wallace looked kind and replied, "Go ahead, take care of yourselves. Pay attention to your pregnancy. Don't worry about me."
If it weren't for Sebastian, Isabella would have wanted to stay with her grandmother all day.
Before leaving, Isabella's throat tightened. She turned her head and looked back, reluctant to leave. "Grandma, I'm leaving."
Old Mrs. Wallace sat in the sunlight, a golden aura surrounding her. "Silly girl, go home quickly. Live well with Sebastian, and don't throw tantrums, you hear?"
Tears welled up in Isabella's eyes as she nodded gently.
As she turned away, her smile disappeared, replaced by a weary and exhausted expression.
Go home? She had no home.
She had begged for half a lifetime, but fate had never granted her a home.
Sebastian grabbed Isabella's hand, leading her step by step.
Once they were out of the nursing home, Isabella pulled her hand away. "Sebastian."
She lowered her head, kicking a small stone in front of her, and asked in a muffled voice, "We don't love each other. Can we end it here?"
She continued to walk with her head down, saying, "I really can't go on like this with you. Let me go. Many women would want to be your plaything, so why make it difficult for me?"
There was no tenderness left on Sebastian's face. He showed no gentleness for Isabella. Instead, he put his hand on her shoulder and forcefully pulled her into his arms.
In a low voice, he whispered in her ear, "We can't get a divorce. If Mrs. Wallace finds out about it, she will be devastated. And if it happens too suddenly, she will feel guilty for what you have sacrificed for her. Can she handle it?"
Isabella looked up at him, her eyes devoid of spirit. "Yes, I dare not leave. I can do nothing but endure until you're done playing with me."
"But if you continue to play, it will make Lynda unhappy, and you will have to target me, just like at yesterday's banquet."
Isabella looked up and asked, "How long will it continue? How long will I have to suffer?"
Sebastian led Isabella towards the car, walking around her, and said, "It depends on my mood. When I've had enough, I'll let go. If not, I'll continue. I can do whatever I want, and you have no right to interfere."
In a corner where Isabella couldn't see, his hand clenched, oozing a trace of blood. It was from last night when he crushed the glass.
Hatred burned within Isabella. She took a deep breath and stared ahead. She bit her lip hard, causing it to bleed. After a deep breath, Isabella's bright eyes were no longer empty but filled with determination.
After getting into the car, Isabella regained her vitality. She turned her head and asked, "Are you not afraid that I will do something to harm you? How dare you keep a woman who hates you by your side?"
Sebastian still wore a disdainful smile. "What gives you the confidence to think that you can hurt me? Even if I handed you a knife, would you have the guts to use it?"
