Chapter 353 Joshua had a car accident last night.
Isabella watched Sebastian leave, sitting on the edge of the bed, drying her hair, and wondering what had him so distracted.
Did something happen to Lynda?
It seemed possible.
Her heart sank, frustration bubbling up.
Overthinking was the worst thing to do. She told herself to stop.
Not long ago, she and Sebastian had a heart-to-heart conversation. He said Lynda wasn't the issue; it was their lack of trust that was tearing them apart.
She needed to trust him.
Isabella took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and tried to relax.
On his way to Maple Valley, Sebastian kept calling Joshua, but no answer. Just that annoying robotic voice.
Worry gnawed at him.
When he got to Joshua's place at Maple Valley One, he kicked the door open.
Inside, he saw Joshua on the floor, pale as a ghost. Sebastian's face went white too.
"Joshua," he called, his voice tight.
He rushed over, lifting Joshua.
Touching Joshua's cold arm sent a chill down his spine.
Sebastian held his breath, scared to check if Joshua was still breathing.
The next morning, Isabella woke up with dark circles under her eyes.
She said she trusted Sebastian, but doubts kept creeping in.
She tossed and turned all night, finally falling asleep in the early hours.
Stretching, she grabbed her phone to call Brittany.
Today was Joshua's engagement day. No matter how tough Brittany acted, she must be hurting inside.
Isabella wanted to be there for her.
But the call wouldn't go through.
"Idiot!" She tapped her forehead. Brittany broke her phone yesterday; of course, she couldn't be reached.
A bad feeling crept in.
Isabella felt a chill at her fingertips.
Could something have happened to Brittany?
Feeling uneasy, she quickly got ready to head out.
"Madam, are you going out?" Carl asked.
Isabella nodded. "Yes, take me to the company."
Brittany wouldn't let personal stuff affect her work. If she was okay, she'd be at the office.
"Yes, Madam," Carl replied.
Isabella massaged her forehead, put on her coat, and left with her bag.
As she stepped out, a car was parked at the door. The window rolled down, and Kaine waved. "Madam."
Isabella's unease grew. Why was Kaine here?
Kaine didn't look too good either.
She bit her lip, hurried to the car, and got in the back seat. "Kaine, what's wrong?"
Kaine started the car. "Madam, Mr. Lawrence asked me to take you to the hospital. Ms. Everly was a bit shaken, and it would be good for you to be with her."
Isabella's eyes widened. "What?"
The more she tried to ignore it, the more things seemed to go wrong.
"Don't worry, Mrs. Everly is awake and at the hospital. She's fine," Kaine said.
"Don't lie to me," Isabella said, her gut telling her it wasn't that simple.
A thought hit her. Who could have caused both Sebastian's deep worry and Brittany's hospitalization? Could it be Joshua?
As she pondered, Kaine spoke up, "Madam, really, nothing's wrong. The one who had the accident is Mr. Sinclair."
Kaine's voice was tense. "Mr. Sinclair had a car accident last night and is in surgery. Mr. Lawrence stayed with him all night and is still waiting outside the operating room."
Even though she had suspected it, hearing the confirmation made Isabella hold her breath.
She didn't have a high opinion of Joshua, but a major accident like this made it hard to stay indifferent.
Sebastian had been there all night, which meant Joshua's condition was serious.
"How did Joshua end up in a car accident?" Isabella asked, frowning.
"Madam, I don't know the details. Mr. Lawrence spread the news last night, and this morning, Mr. Sinclair's engagement was canceled," Kaine explained. "Mr. Lawrence has kept the details under wraps. I got orders this morning to come get you."
"Are you sure the engagement was canceled?" Isabella latched onto that detail.
Kaine nodded. "Yes."
Isabella nodded silently.
It made sense; how could Joshua have an engagement if he was in the hospital?
Though she felt bad about Joshua's accident, the engagement being called off was a relief.
Actions have consequences.
Joshua's infidelity led to an accident just before the engagement.
Nicole was the other woman. She couldn't possibly go through with the engagement party now.
Fate has a way of balancing things out.
The car drove on, soon arriving at the hospital.
Isabella didn't ask Kaine to come with her. She got the ward number from him and sent him off.
She stopped by a nearby flower shop to buy a bouquet before heading to the hospital.
Isabella knocked at the door of Brittany's ward. A middle-aged woman who looked a bit like Brittany opened the door.
"May I ask who you are?" Mary's eyes were swollen and red, her voice hoarse from crying.
"Mrs. Smith," Isabella guessed. Holding the flowers, she said politely, "I'm a friend of Brittany's. May I come in?"
Hearing "friend," Mary first looked dazed, then smiled warmly. "It's my first time meeting one of Brittany's friends. Come in, thank you for the flowers."
She led Isabella into the ward.
Brittany had just come out of the bathroom, changed into fresh clothes. Seeing Isabella with a bouquet of roses, she looked surprised. "Isabella, why are you here?"
Isabella placed the flowers on the bedside table and smiled gently. "You're in the hospital; how could I not come?"
"I'll leave you two to talk; I'll go handle the discharge papers," Mary said, giving them space.
With that, the room was left with just Isabella and Brittany.
As Mary left, Isabella's smile faded, her brow furrowing with concern. "What happened? Why are you in the hospital?"
