Chapter 344 The Last Day, Come on Time

She couldn't hold onto Joshua's heart, perhaps not even Joshua himself. So, she was determined to cling to the identity of Joshua's fiancée and wife with all her might.

She was willing to risk everything, like a moth to a flame.

Nicole murmured to herself, "You love Brittany so deeply and intensely. But have you ever thought that I love you just as much?"

"You're afraid she won't be able to handle your death, or she'll live in pain for the rest of her life, so you push her away, make her hate you, to give her a life of peace and joy. But have you ever thought about me?"

"If you die, what am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to carry on with your death on my shoulders?"

Nicole's gaze gradually became more determined than ever.

She turned and left the hospital, quietly contacted the media, and released the news of their engagement ahead of schedule.

The next morning.

A piece of news circulated online that the Sinclair family and the Garcia family had moved up their engagement date, witnessed by the esteemed Priest Tobias Wells.

What a perfect match, made in heaven.

Isabella woke up in the morning, habitually lazing in bed, scrolling through Twitter.

Usually, she would laugh off some entertainment news, but today's news left her speechless.

Recalling what Emily mentioned yesterday, Isabella feared Brittany might do something drastic.

The engagement three days later had already made Brittany suffer, but now, moved up to tomorrow?

If that wasn't enough to break her heart, the phrase "the perfect match, a beautiful day" should do the trick.

Isabella finished her breakfast in a hurry and had someone drive her to the office.

Calling Brittany wouldn't work, so she had to go to the office to find her.

On the way, Isabella texted Sebastian, making small talk, and receiving his loving greetings in return, such as how she slept last night and whether she had a good breakfast.

His questions were so childish, treating her like a kid and making Isabella both amused and touched.

Even though she knew he was at work, she still felt a bit empty without him beside her this morning.

Now, seeing Sebastian's messages, Isabella's heart felt full again.

In the golden sunshine, Isabella's smile was tinged with a golden glow.

But this good mood didn't last long. Thinking about Brittany's situation, her smile froze, leaving a bitter taste in her mouth.

The more she thought about it, the more she felt sorry for Brittany. She typed out a long string of complaints about Joshua, ready to send them, when she received a call from Sebastian.

"Didn't I tell you to rest at home? Why are you coming to the office?"

The husky, sexy voice came through, making Isabella's ears tingle and her mood slightly soothed.

"I miss you, so I'm coming to see you." Isabella knew Sebastian didn't want her to get involved in Joshua and Brittany's matters so that she wouldn't bring it up.

Looking out of the window, she smiled softly, trying to gloss over with sweet words.

On the other end, Sebastian paused to sign a document upon hearing this.

He put down the pen and leaned back in his chair, a curve forming at the corner of his mouth.

"I have some things to take care of here. Once I'm done, I'll come find you." Isabella noticed Brittany getting off the bus and quickly ended the call with Sebastian.

The sound of the call ending echoed in Sebastian's ears, his smile stiffening.

He quickly realized who Isabella was going to see at the office.

His face turned cold, and he snorted, wondering when Joshua could bring this to an end.

Isabella had the driver speed up and successfully intercepted Brittany.

Getting out of the car, Isabella spotted Brittany's slender figure.

Just as Emily had mentioned, Brittany didn't look well, and her delicate makeup couldn't hide her weariness.

"Brittany." Isabella walked over. "You look so pale. Did you have breakfast?"

Brittany looked up and smiled when she saw her.

Her eyes curved into crescents as she smiled gently, "I'm fine, Isabella. Are you heading to the office?"

"I'm here to see you."

Brittany's mental state made Isabella uneasy. Brittany was smiling, her eyes even curving, but Isabella couldn't sense her happiness.

"Stop smiling." Isabella grabbed Brittany's wrist. "I'm taking you to breakfast."

The touch made Isabella even more anxious. Brittany's wrist seemed so fragile that it could break with just a little force.

"Isabella, I can handle it. I'm fine. I've been just a bit tired of helping my senior brother make connections lately." Brittany shook her head, quickly changing the subject. "I heard you made up with Mr. Lawrence, didn't you?"

"Enough about men. Let's eat, Brittany. I rushed out this morning and didn't eat enough." Isabella was rarely this forceful, "You're coming with me, your boss's wife. It's official business."

Brittany couldn't argue with Isabella, so she put away her fake smile and nodded.

"That's better!" Isabella let out a sigh of relief and walked alongside Brittany.

But just a few steps later, Brittany's phone rang.

Isabella clearly sensed Brittany's arm stiffen.

When Brittany coldly took out her phone, Isabella snatched it away and answered, "Joshua, what's wrong with you? Do you enjoy tormenting her that much?"

"Isabella!" Brittany's eyebrows furrowed, her clear eyes mixed with pleading. "Let me talk to him, please."

Isabella was furious but had to give the phone back.

However, as soon as the phone was back in Brittany's hand, a light, teasing voice came through the receiver.

"Brittany, be at Maple Valley in half an hour, or..." Joshua lazily chuckled, "You know the consequences."

The cruel words were like invisible slaps, brutally hitting Brittany's face and shattering what little remained of her pride.

Brittany's fingers stiffened, frantically trying to hang up the call.

Her hands were so stiff that in her rush to hang up, the phone slipped and fell to the ground.

"Last day, be there on time, Brittany, or I might not be able to let you go."

The phone screen cracked, but Joshua's magnetic voice still came through, each word piercing the heart.

Brittany's face turned as pale as a sheet of paper.

She didn't dare look at Isabella's expression; Being pitied was her greatest fear.

Joshua knew she was with Isabella, yet he still humiliated her so mercilessly.

Brittany felt as if she had fallen into an icy abyss. Supporting her weak body, she bent her knees and lifted her leg, forcefully stomping on the phone screen repeatedly.

"Brittany!" Isabella never expected Joshua to continue tormenting her like this. After recovering from her shock, she tightly embraced Brittany.

Isabella had never seen Brittany in such a state of emotional collapse. To her, Brittany had always been a calm and independent woman.
