Chapter 271 Love Me Again, Even If It's Troublesome

Isabella, the quiet and obedient woman, nestled into his arms, her demeanor as docile as a lamb. A wave of tenderness washed over Sebastian, softening his heart at her submission.A faint discomfort nagged at Sebastian, but he dismissed it, finding a peculiar satisfaction in the sensation. He gently withdrew his arm from around Isabella, tucking the blanket snugly around her. His fingers brushed lightly against her lips before he rose from the bed.
After washing up, Sebastian picked up his phone. A message from Lynda awaited him. His temples pulsed with a dull throb, and he pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. The previous day, he had entirely neglected Lynda's concerns. She had called, but he had not answered, later forgetting the matter entirely. As he read Lynda's sensible reply, a pang of guilt twisted in Sebastian's gut. He was struck by a sudden revelation of what love truly meant. His past feelings for Lynda had been nothing more than a nebulous fondness.Had he not encountered Isabella, perhaps this fondness would have evolved into something more substantial. But now, maintaining this ambiguous relationship no longer seemed logical.Lynda, to whom he owed an undisclosed favor, remained his moral boundary. He would protect her, but there would be no room for ambiguity. After maintaining this ambiguity for so long, it was time to address it. With a stern expression and a poker face, Sebastian replied to Lynda, "Lynda, let's talk this morning."Awakening, Isabella reached out, her hand finding only cold sheets beside her. A glance at the clock revealed it was already past ten. Sebastian would be at work by now.She berated herself for her excessive slumber, a luxury she could ill afford, given her pregnancy.Yawning and stretching lazily, Isabella rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Slipping her feet into her slippers, she shuffled towards the bathroom.Refreshed after washing up, she was more alert. As she surveyed the unfamiliar surroundings, a buzzing filled her head. She gasped in realization. She had completely forgotten! She was in the Lawrence family's old house! It was past ten, and she had overslept. How impolite! Moreover, it was her first time sleeping in the old house. Why hadn't Sebastian woken her?In her panic, Isabella realized that all her clothes were dirty and unfit to wear. The more she fretted, the more problems seemed to arise.Resigned, Isabella decided to rummage through Sebastian's closet. If she couldn't find anything suitable, she would reach out to Lawrence for help.To her surprise, she found a variety of women's clothing interspersed with Sebastian's attire. Each item she examined was to her liking.Selecting an outfit, she was about to leave when a sticker on the wall caught her eye. She paused, plucking the sticker from the wall. "Another day, I'll go shopping with you." The handwriting was bold and assertive, unmistakably Sebastian's.Isabella sighed. Sebastian was relentless. Who could resist him? Even knowing it was a trap, she found herself drawn in, willingly stepping into the snare.Alone, Isabella had no need to hide her emotions. She stared at the sticker, marveling at the beauty of Sebastian's handwriting. His genes were unfairly biased! As she was about to put the sticker away, she noticed something peculiar. Holding it up to the light, she discovered faint traces of previous writing. The words were blurred, but Isabella managed to decipher them. They were written by Sebastian, the same message as on the sticker, but with additional word."Darling, another day, I'll go shopping with you."The extra words had been added by Sebastian. Isabella's heart pounded in her chest, her mind a whirlwind of confusion. Why had he crossed them out? Was he shy? The thought startled Isabella.
The diminutive sticker slipped from Isabella's grasp, descending in a slow dance to the floor. With a moment's hesitation, Isabella stooped to retrieve it, her fingers gently brushing away the dust that had dared to mar its surface. A tremor ran through her as she tucked the sticker safely into her pocket. Darling... darling...Was she the beloved of not only her grandmother but also of Sebastian? The thought was too daring, too raw for Isabella to entertain. Truth and falsehood blurred together in a dizzying dance, their edges too indistinct to separate. With a sigh, Isabella pushed the burgeoning thoughts aside and exited the cloakroom. Her first night in the antiquated house had been a restless one, and she had awoken late in the morning, a blush of embarrassment coloring her cheeks. She cleared her throat softly, her fingers tangling in her hair as she chastised herself. "Ah! You lazy Isabella!" she muttered, "Nothing but a slothful creature, always sleeping!"Suddenly, a rich, magnetic laughter echoed from above, startling her. Feeling mentally drained, Isabella straightened abruptly, her gaze lifting to meet the source of the laughter. "Sebastian? Shouldn't you be at work?" she asked. Leaning casually against the opposite wall, arms crossed, Sebastian replied with a lazy drawl, "Clearly, I didn't go.""Today, you look beautiful," he commented, his gaze sweeping over her. "My taste is not bad."His words caught her off guard, and Isabella could only muster a brave retort, "With my figure, anything looks good on me.""Oh?" Sebastian's eyebrow arched, his gaze lingering on her curves, causing a flush to creep up Isabella's neck. She fought the urge to cover his eyes with her hands, but ultimately resisted. "I'm going to say good morning to my grandfather," she mumbled, keeping her gaze averted as she moved past him. Sebastian trailed behind her, his voice teasing, "Unfortunately, it's already late in the morning, past ten."His words caused her blush to deepen, and she spun around to glare at him, "You're so annoying."Sebastian merely smirked, his gaze locking with hers, leaving her no room to escape. His voice held a hint of seriousness as he warned, "No matter how annoying I am, you will still love me."Isabella's heart pounded in her chest, the rhythm growing faster and faster. "Let's go home," Sebastian suggested, his hand casually resting on her shoulder. His fingers played with strands of her hair, his scent enveloping her. Her heart fluttered, refusing to settle. The house was quiet, the old man and the others absent. Isabella breathed a sigh of relief, "Even if we leave, we should still greet my grandfather. Otherwise, it would be very rude.""No need," Sebastian dismissed, "Grandfather has a meeting with an old friend this morning."His words brought a sense of calm to Isabella's heart. "This won't change your position in Grandfather's eyes," Sebastian's voice was light, but his words hit Isabella unexpectedly, causing her to bite her lip. The slight pain brought her back to reality, grounding her. In the past, Sebastian had intentionally tarnished the Lawrence family's reputation. But now, he seemed to be making amends. From yesterday until now, everything Sebastian had done felt so real. Isabella found herself in the backseat of the car, her mind lost in a whirl of thoughts. "Wait for me," Sebastian suddenly said, his brow furrowing as if he had just remembered something. He exited the car, leaving Isabella alone. Five or six minutes passed, but Sebastian didn't return. Isabella turned her gaze to the car window, her thoughts wandering as she waited.
