Chapter 214 Waiting to Marry, to Become Mrs. Sinclair
"I've been prepared for this; I knew that the truth would come out. I just didn't expect it to come this quickly," Brittany said. "Joshua, you underestimate Nicole. Did you really think you could hide this from her?"
He didn't respond.
Because he honestly didn't know where he had slipped up; he had no idea where he messed up that allowed Nicole to notice.
Brittany raised her hand, gently touching his jawline. "A woman's intuition and sixth sense are incredibly accurate, especially when it comes to the man she deeply loves. You exposed yourself in some detail."
"Unlikely..." Joshua caught her wrist. "I spend very little time with Nicole."
He still lived in the river-view room at New York No.1 and spent most of his time at the company. Furthermore, all his private time was spent with Brittany.
His interactions with Nicole were very few.
Brittany asked, "So she just accused me of seducing you out of nowhere?"
"I'm sorry, Brittany." Joshua gently tugged at her wrist, pulling her into his arms. "I won't let this happen again."
"You don't need to apologize to me. What Nicole said is all true. I am your secret lover; we have a relationship that cannot be exposed; I have no shame..."
"Stop talking!"
Joshua interrupted her sharply as he buried his head in her neck while lightly sniffing the scent of her hair.
"Nicole did nothing wrong," Brittany said. "Joshua... what do you need to finally let me go?"
After hearing the desolation in her tone, Joshua became anxious. "I promise! I promise I won't let Nicole treat you like this again. Brittany, stay with me, I can't be without you!"
She nodded slightly, "Okay."
She answered so quickly, without any hesitation.
But Joshua knew that he had wounded Brittany's heart.
She had no choice; she had nowhere to go.
If he hadn't threatened her with her parents, Brittany would never have stayed by his side obediently.
"Brittany, Brittany..." Joshua kept calling her name. "Don't leave me; I will protect you in the future."
"Actually, I really don't know what you're thinking. Until today, you've never touched me..."
Joshua held her tightly, "I want you... willingly."
"Oh, I see, yes, I almost forgot, people of your status prefer women to take the initiative. It would be a loss of value and dignity if you forced it."
The more she spoke, the deeper the misunderstanding seemed to be.
Joshua could only hold her, "I love you, Brittany."
Brittany ignored him and just murmured, "You have me come over every day, accompany you to eat, watch TV, walk, and then send me back. Occasionally you let me stay over, but all you do is hold me; you never do anything..."
What was he thinking? Did he really want her to take the initiative?
That was absolutely impossible!
Brittany closed her eyes, "I want to go home, Joshua."
"Okay," he agreed immediately, "I'll take you home."
"Can I be alone for a few days?" She asked, "I want some peace."
"Okay, okay, whatever you say."
Joshua's tone was so gentle, yet it was filled with fear.
He was truly afraid... afraid that Brittany would do something desperate, so he could only comply with her wishes.
He took Brittany back to where she lived, and as he was leaving, he said, "Brittany, live well."
She was drinking water, and upon hearing this, she smiled and looked at him, "Are you worried I'll commit suicide? You're worrying over nothing; I won't do that. If I died, what would my parents do? They only have me as their daughter."
"As long as you understand."
"But..." Brittany swirled her water glass, "If you really push me to that point, I don't know what crazy thing I might do."
He stood at the door, "I won't push you to that. Besides, you should live well... who knows, you might outlive me and see the day I die."
Upon hearing this, Brittany laughed, "Really? I'm looking forward to that."
Joshua also smiled, his mouth curving up high, "Yes."
He walked out and gently closed the door.
Brittany, you will live longer than me.
Upon returning to his New York No.1 residence, Joshua opened the door to find Nicole, standing disheveled in the middle of the living room.
Her appearance was somewhat frightening.
"You're back," Nicole smiled at him, "I've been waiting for you for a long time."
Joshua's face instantly darkened, "How did you get in?"
"I tried several passwords and finally guessed it," Nicole said, "It's not your birthday, nor Brittany's birthday, but the day you two confirmed your relationship."
"What do you want?"
"Me? What do I want? Joshua, why are you so obsessed with Brittany? What's wrong with me? Did I do something to displease you? You can tell me; I will change for you..."
"No need." Joshua coldly interrupted her, "Get out of here now!"
"You're in such a hurry to drive me away? When you left the restaurant holding Brittany, you said to wait for you, so here I am." Nicole looked at him, "You don't have to come looking for me."
"Nicole, my tolerance for you has reached its limit."
"What a coincidence, my tolerance for Brittany... has also reached its limit!"
Joshua quickly walked up to her, raised his hand, and grabbed her throat, "I've told you countless times and given you countless reminders and warnings, not to provoke her. But what about you? Again and again, you target her repeatedly!"
"I don't want to do this either! I know you cherish her, and yet I still trouble her, isn't that making you despise me more? But Joshua, why don't you see what you've done?!"
"What I do is none of your business! Just wait to get married and be a good Mrs. Sinclair!"
Nicole suddenly screamed, "Do you think I'm marrying you just for the title of Mrs. Sinclair?!!"
"I don't care what you're after," Joshua said, "In the future, if Brittany suffers even the slightest harm, I'll make sure you and the Garcia family never recover!"
Her face lost all color, "For her... you're treating me like this..."
"Who do you think you are?" Joshua's hand tightened even more around her throat, "I let you be Mrs. Sinclair, and you really think you can control me?"
Nicole's breathing became increasingly short; the force on her neck was preventing her from speaking.
"I wanted to give you some face, considering you're pitiful too. But Nicole, if you insist on causing trouble, don't blame me for being rude!"
With that, Joshua abruptly let her go.
