Chapter 211 You Don't Mind Losing Face, But I Do
"Do you remember something else I said?" Brittany asked.
"What?"
Brittany enunciated every word carefully, making sure Sophia understood the gravity of her situation, "Falling in love with Sebastian will never end well for you; it's a dead-end. The best way to break this cycle is to make Sebastian fall in love with you."
Isabella shook her head, "That's too hard, Brittany. From beginning to the end, the person he loves is not me."
"So why bother..."
"Let's talk about something happier," Isabella changed the topic. "Don't worry about me, Brittany. While we’re married, Sebastian will never treat me badly. He will definitely give me a generous reward, and I will live carefree for the rest of my life."
"Love can't be measured in money."
Brittany looked desolate. She sighed deeply and took a sip of her coffee but even that tasted bitter.
"Have you been okay recently?" Isabella asked. "Last time in the elevator, Joshua..."
"He always harasses me, but it's better now," Brittany answered. "He won't do that anymore."
"Why?"
She smiled, "Because Joshua is about to get engaged. You've met Nicole; she's no pushover."
But Isabella was still a little worried, "Is he really not going to bother you anymore? Brittany, I feel like... he still loves you, very much... I don’t think he can let go."
"He just has a problem that all rich people have; he always wants more and is never satisfied with what they have; he wants to enjoy the best of both worlds."
Isabella couldn't help but admire her, "You’re quite insightful..."
Sebastian and Joshua were exactly the same.
Brittany laughed, "Unfortunately, Joshua picked the wrong person. Plenty of women are willing to be his canary; they’d be happy to maintain a secret relationship with him. But not me."
Isabella also wanted to say that, perhaps for money, she could endure many things that she couldn't, like Sebastian marrying another woman.
But she couldn't do it.
Isabella also wished that she was the kind of woman who worshipped money. If she could, she’d get the money, have a child, and then leave without a care.
"Both of us are too emotional, Brittany," she sighed. "If we only loved money, status, and appearance; everything would be so much easier."
Brittany looked down at the menu, "Let's order; I'm hungry."
Isabella looked at her, "So now, you've completely distanced yourself from Joshua?"
"Yeah, would I lie to you? You're at the Lawrence Group every day; you can see for yourself. He doesn't even talk to me much at the company anymore."
Brittany casually said this while ordering from the waiter.
She admired her own mental strength.
Because of Joshua, she had lost all her dignity, and her bottom line kept lowering.
Now, Brittany just hoped that one day... Joshua would get tired of her.
There were so many beautiful women around him. Women who were prettier than her and had a better figure than her. Furthermore, there were plenty of women who were more obedient than her. She hoped he’d find a new toy soon.
But she couldn't tell anyone about this.
‘So... Isabella, I'm sorry.’
Sebastian sat in the distance, occasionally lifting his eyes to look in Isabella's direction.
He could see the faintly radiant smile on her face, and her lively expressions.
When talking to Brittany, she still had some vitality, unlike the cold indifference she showed him.
Suddenly, an icon started flashing in the bottom right corner of his computer.
Sebastian clicked on it, and a message from Joshua popped up. "Are Isabella and Brittany having dinner?"
He typed back, "How do you know?"
"Is there anything I don't know?"
Sebastian raised an eyebrow as his fingers continued to type rapidly on the keyboard, "What's going on with you and Brittany lately?"
"All is calm; nothing's happening."
"If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine."
Sebastian closed his laptop and reached into his pocket to get a cigarette but restrained himself.
Now that she was pregnant, she couldn't stand the smell of smoke.
Fortunately, he was not heavily addicted to smoking. Only when he was restless or thinking deeply, would he want to smoke.
Quitting wouldn't be a problem.
Sebastian looked at the half-drunk coffee next to him, and the corner of his mouth curled up in self-mockery.
He never thought he would stoop to spying on someone. Isabella must mean more to him than he realized.
Just as he was about to take another sip of his coffee, a woman suddenly walked briskly past him.
The woman walked extremely fast; her skirt flew up as her high heels made a steady "clack clack" sound on the floor, leaving behind a whiff of perfume.
Sebastian slightly furrowed his brows and casually glanced at her.
He thought she looked somewhat familiar.
But he didn't give it another thought. In New York, there were few women he would care about. If he couldn’t remember her, then he couldn't remember her; it didn't matter.
However...
"I finally found you, Brittany." A sharp female voice rang out, "I can't get into the Lawrence Group, and you seem to be hiding after you get off work. You must have a really guilty conscience if you’re going to such extremes to hide from me!"
Was this... Nicole?
Isabella and Brittany were having a meal and chatting; the atmosphere was quite harmonious.
As long as they didn't mention Sebastian and Joshua, the girls could easily chat happily.
Men were indeed the most mood-killing topic!
However, Nicole suddenly appeared. She stood next to the table and started loudly cursing, leaving both of them stunned.
Brittany's face changed slightly, but she quickly calmed down, "This is a restaurant, a public place; why are you making such a fuss?"
She never had anything good to say to Nicole; she didn't even bother to pretend.
The two of them were always at odds.
Nicole got into Joshua's bed, was complacent, and flaunted in front of her. She still remembered it clearly.
Every time she thought of it, she felt uncomfortable.
Now, she was forced to be Joshua's secret lover. Even though she felt guilty, she didn't need to please a woman like Nicole.
"You're still arguing with me here?" Nicole pointed at her, "Do you know what you've done? Do you want me to spell it out for you?"
Brittany frowned.
Didn't Joshua say that since it would be a secret affair? He said he would do his best to keep them from being discovered, especially from Nicole. So, how come Nicole was speaking to her in this tone right now? Did she know about it?
However, Brittany quickly retorted, "What did you do before? Do you want me to spell it out for you? You're not ashamed, but I am!"
The customers at the other tables were already looking over.
Nicole's voice was loud, and she made no attempt to hide it, looking like she was ready to fight.
"You... fine, very good, Brittany; I didn't see it coming," Nicole snorted, looking at Isabella next to her, "Mrs. Lawrence, I'll pay for this meal. Brittany and I have some private matters to discuss; I don't want to disturb you."
