Chapter 160 Forcing Me to be Your Lover
Isabella couldn't possibly have imagined, let alone guessed his thoughts.
"I think... I can handle Lynda," Isabella replied. "You don't have to worry about me."
"Alright."
"Ah... huh?"
Isabella thought that Anthony might insist a little longer, but she didn't expect him to respond so readily.
"Since you can handle it, I won't interfere too much," he said. "But if... you ever feel overwhelmed, feel free to come to me. I'm more than willing to help."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome, we're family."
After saying that, Anthony turned his wheelchair and left.
Isabella watched him return to the roadside, where a driver got out of the car and helped him inside before folding up the wheelchair.
Did Anthony just happen to run into her right after leaving the Lawrence Group company, or did he intentionally come to find her?
The more she thought about it, the more confused she became. Anthony was indeed a hard person to understand; his actions were always enigmatic.
Perhaps it's better not to easily trust others.
She muttered in her heart as she walked back to the office and pressed the elevator button.
Lowering her head, Isabella gazed at her foot as it unconsciously tapped the smooth marble floor.
"Ding," the elevator doors opened.
Isabella was about to step inside when she suddenly noticed someone in the elevator's reflection on the floor.
This was a private elevator and ordinary people couldn't ride it.
Isabella raised her head and looked at the two people inside the elevator. Brittany clenched her lips in anger, her hair disheveled, with Joshua gripping her wrist.
Joshua had almost backed her into a corner, his tall figure completely obstructing her view. From Isabella's perspective, she could only see half of Brittany's head.
Isabella and Brittany's eyes met, both shocked by the scene.
"Isabella..." Brittany was the first to speak, her voice choking with tears.
It was obvious she had been mistreated.
Joshua had his back towards the elevator entrance and upon hearing Brittany's voice, he turned to look at Isabella.
Coincidentally, as he turned around, the elevator doors slowly closed.
Isabella was momentarily stunned but immediately rushed forward, blocking the elevator doors.
"Joshua, are you even a man?" she exclaimed.
She pulled Joshua away and pushed him forcefully, standing in front of Brittany.
"This is between her and me," Joshua said sternly, his face grim. "Isabella, don't intervene."
"Fine, I can mind my own business." Isabella nodded. "But tell me, who are you to her?"
Joshua pressed his lips tightly, remaining silent.
"I see, you can't answer, right?" Isabella stared at him. "Then let me ask you again, what business do you have with her?"
Behind her, Brittany replied in a low voice, "It's about drinking last night."
Even in such a small elevator, Joshua could hear Brittany despite her low voice.
"What does drinking have to do with him?" Isabella blurted out, "He seems to be concerned about it."
Joshua looked at the two of them, "Don't you know how dangerous it is for two girls to go to a place like that?"
"I think no matter how dangerous the place is, it's not as dangerous as being with you."
As she spoke, Isabella took Brittany's hand and said, "Let's go, let's get out of here."
Before Brittany could answer, Joshua interjected, "No, she's staying."
"Why?"
"I have something to say to her."
"But it seems that Brittany doesn't want to talk to you," Isabella pointed out.
Joshua frowned, "Isabella, if I don't let her go, you won't be able to take her away."
"Is that so?" she chuckled, "I'm stubborn. The more you tell me I can't, the more I want to prove you wrong."
Joshua remained silent, his gaze returning to Brittany, "Are you sure you want to go with her?"
Isabella didn't pay attention to his words and was about to walk away with Brittany when she pulled her hand back.
She stood there, stunned, looking at Brittany in disbelief.
"Isabella, you... go ahead," Brittany said, "I'll come find you later."
"Are you afraid of him?"
"No, I have something to say to him."
"But just now..."
Brittany's attitude was almost pleading, "Isabella, please don't ask..."
"But he has no reason to bother you."
Brittany didn't say anything more, but there were glistening tears in her eyes.
Isabella's heart softened in an instant.
She paused, "Okay, I'll go first."
After saying that, she glanced at Joshua, "I don't think you're much of a man."
"Isn't it rare for you to call me trash?"
"Could it be that I was wrong in calling you that?"
Joshua pressed the elevator button, "Let's get out."
Isabella hurriedly left.
When she saw Brittany's tear-filled eyes, Isabella wondered what she should do if one day she and Sebastian had secrets that were hard to express.
Brittany loved Joshua, but Joshua... he really isn't a decent person!
Inside the elevator, Brittany stood in the corner, looking at Joshua with hatred in her eyes.
"For the first time... I see such evident hatred in your eyes, for the first time..." Joshua said, "In the end, we've reached this point."
"You betrayed me, betrayed our relationship, even if you cheated and married Nicole, I could endure it. Because you hurt me, and I could handle it alone. But today..."
"Why! Why are you trying to exterminate me?"
"I just wanted you back by my side, Brittany."
She roared, "But you're getting married!"
"But I still love you!"
Brittany's tears fell instantly, "So, you're threatening me, forcing me to be your hidden lover! Otherwise, you'll target the Everly family!"
How could she let Isabella know about this?
So, she didn't have the courage to just walk away. Since Joshua said so, he would definitely follow through.
Brittany didn't dare to be willful.
If Joshua wanted to do something to her, she didn't mind, but her family... they were her weak spot.
"I will treat you well," Joshua said, "very well... just like before."
Brittany looked at him attentively, "Aren't you afraid Nicole will find out?"
"She won't know."
"Well, you have your ways to hide it from her," Brittany murmured, "Even if she finds out, she'll only come to me... she loves you so much, as long as you marry her, she would tolerate anything you do."
Joshua spoke up, "Let's not talk about Nicole. I'll ask you again, Brittany, will you agree or not?"
"Why must you choose me? Joshua, as someone as esteemed as you, don't you have plenty of options? Why dwell on a woman you've already played with for a few years... you can choose someone more beautiful, with a better figure, and have that freshness."
"Perhaps... I'm more sentimental."
"Don't you find it boring?"
Joshua slowly approached her, "I find it... more fulfilling."
Brittany had no way out now, she couldn't retreat anymore, she could only look up at him and say, "I was wrong, Joshua."
"Wrong?"
