Chapter 169: Men, Falling for This Trick

"I shouldn't have gone to the bar, and I definitely shouldn't have gone after you expressly forbade me from doing so. I didn't listen to you," Brittany said. "Please forgive me."

Joshua leaned in, his hand lightly touching the corner of her eye. "You should know that I despise disobedient people."

"I'm sorry."

"It's too late," Joshua said. "Since you enjoy drinking and being surrounded by men so much, I'll fulfill your desires. How about that?"

He spoke in the gentlest tone, delivering the most hurtful words.

Tears streamed down Brittany's face, one by one.

Joshua wiped them away repeatedly. "Why cry? I will take care of you."

Brittany's body trembled endlessly. "I truly made a mistake. I won't dare to do it again... Please forgive me. Going forward, I will listen to whatever you say and won't go against you."

"Are you afraid of me? Ashuang, the person you should fear the least is me."

Joshua reached out and gently embraced her, holding her tightly. "You're always drinking and suffering from hangovers, which is bad for your health. In the future, let me take care of you and accompany you. Is that not good?"

"Please, Joshua..."

"I'll give you time to consider, three days." His tone became even gentler. "Is that enough?"

But the gentler he was, the more terrifying it felt.

"If you remain silent, I will consider it as your agreement," Joshua said. "Three days later, I will come find you."

Brittany shook her head repeatedly. "No, no..."

"Behave," Joshua kissed her forehead. "Stop crying. If anyone from the company sees, who knows what rumors will spread."

She stiffened.

"As long as you don't speak and act normally, I promise that our affairs won't be leaked."

After Joshua finished speaking, his fingers tidied her messy hair and wiped away her tears.

Brittany stared at him, realizing that he truly was a complete demon...

"I'm leaving," he said. "We'll meet again in three days. If you don't come looking for me... then we'll see each other at the Everly family."

"Joshua, you..."

"Behave."

As she watched him walk out of the elevator, a hint of a smile on his lips, Brittany felt a bone-chilling coldness.

She looked at herself in the mirror.

As she was, she didn't know what was worth Joshua's attention.

Even if he wouldn't marry her, he still wanted to keep her as his lover.

Brittany covered her face, took a deep breath, and forced herself to adjust her state of mind, pressing the floor button.

Isabella returned to her office, feeling a bit unsettled.

The pregnancy test showed positive, Lynda approached her, and she ran into Jarod Lawrence, Joshua and Brittany's elevator entanglement...

Her right eyelid kept twitching, giving her the feeling that something was about to happen. She held the pen in her hands, unconsciously twirling it, while her mind replayed the events of the morning.

Suddenly, the desk was tapped twice, making a "knock knock" sound.

"Ah!" Isabella was startled and quickly stood up. However, her movement was too fast and unstable, causing her to fall to one side.

Sebastian, quick to react, grabbed her waist and pulled her back into his embrace, holding her tightly.

"Always so jumpy," he wrinkled his brows, "even when you're about to become a mother."

Unintentional words, but intentional ears.

Isabella was flustered. Did Sebastian know?

Why did he mention that she was going to be a mother?

Did he find the pregnancy test? It couldn't be; she wrapped it up tightly and threw it in the trash bin. No one would dig through the toilet paper's garbage, right?

"A moth...mother? I...I..." Isabella stammered. "I... I haven't..."

Sebastian calmly replied, "It's only a matter of time."

"Oh..."

She was terrified. He still didn't know; it was just a casual remark after all. Besides, she was only trying to conceive now.

But she felt guilty and had imagined too much.

Noticing her abnormality, Sebastian asked, "Why are you so nervous?"

"I'm not," Isabella denied with one gulp, "I was just scared by you! When...when did you come in? How come I didn't know?!"

"I've been here for a while."

"Ah?"

"You were too absorbed in your thoughts," Sebastian said. "If I hadn't knocked on the table to remind you, who knows when you would have noticed me?"

Isabella looked up from his shoulder and saw that the door to the lounge was ajar.

Normally, she always kept it firmly shut.

Sebastian had come from the lounge to her office, which was a first.

"How did you come over here from there?" Isabella asked. "Aren't you supposed to use the main entrance?"

"The main and back doors are the same."

"What do you mean they are the same? By coming through here, no one besides me would know that you came to find me."

Sebastian arched an eyebrow. "Why would I need anyone else to know that I came to find you?"

"Fine," Isabella pouted and took a step back, trying to leave his embrace.

However, Sebastian reached out and pulled her back.

"What...what are you doing?" Isabella asked. "Aren't you mad at me for giving you the cold shoulder?"

"Who said that?"

"You didn't speak a word all morning. And last night...you didn't say anything either," Isabella almost slipped up, desperately trying to cover it up. "Or maybe you did, but I...I was drunk, blacked out, and don't remember anything."

Sebastian suddenly let out a cold snort.

Isabella’s heart skipped a beat.

"I almost forgot until you mentioned it. Time to settle the score." Sebastian lowered his head and looked at her. "Going out drinking, clubbing, dancing with other men... you've become quite skilled, Isabella."

Isabella wanted to smack herself.

Why is it that every time... every time, she dug herself into a hole, drawing attention to her own missteps?

But if she didn't mention getting drunk, she almost blurted out that she pretended to be drunk.

Sigh. It's truly difficult to lie in front of Sebastian.

"I'm sorry," she said. "But I did it because of you."

"Because of me?"

Isabella confidently said, "Yes. You went to see Lynda, and I was feeling down and frustrated, so I went out for drinks with Brittany."

Sebastian, who initially had an expression of reproach, changed his demeanor upon hearing her words.

"You think so," Isabella glanced at him secretly and continued. "You were definitely not coming back that night. I was left alone at Willowbrook Estate, in an empty house, enduring the peculiar looks of the servants. So, I decided to get drunk, sleep until dawn without feeling pain or discomfort."

Sebastian lowered his head, his chin gently touching her forehead. "Pain? Discomfort? So, you still care," he murmured.

As Isabella listened to his tone, which grew increasingly gentle, she thought to herself that Lynda's green tea seduction techniques were quite effective.

Just with a few casual remarks, Sebastian's attitude softened.

Ah... men, they indeed fall for this.

Since it works, she will continue in this manner.
