Chapter 336 Was Your Family in the Jealous Business

"What?" Isabella questioned, "What's going on with Sebastian?"

Emily hesitated for a moment, then suddenly looked up, drew closer to Isabella, and whispered, "Well...when I met him in the sanatorium, I scolded him, calling him a scoundrel something."

"I did it for you. You have to protect me," Emily said, grabbing Isabella's arm and playfully swaying back and forth.

Isabella chuckled, "You dared scold him. You're impressive, truly my bestie."

Emily patted her shoulder, "Don't scare me. It's all for you. A true friend stands by you in tough times."

"Don't worry, everything will be fine. With me around, he won't dare handle you," Isabella reassured Emily, who still seemed doubtful.

"He really won't, trust me. Besides, he has to consider Kaine," Isabella added.

"You're teasing me again," Emily huffed, "We haven't even defined our relationship yet."

Emily's voice grew somewhat strained, "We have been in a situationship, like a game of charades. He might act this way with every girl, but he's genuinely kind to me. I just can't figure him out."

A honking sound rang out from not far away.

Isabella was about to converse with Emily when she noticed Emily shudder. The discomfort on her face vanished, replaced by panic as she hastily hid behind her.

"Isabella, you better go. I feel like Mr. Lawrence's gaze is like daggers. I really don't want to be fired." Emily prodded Isabella's waist and lifted her chin, indicating for Isabella to look.

Isabella glanced over to see the car window slowly lowering, revealing Sebastian's stern profile.

He squinted, his gaze meeting Isabella's.

Isabella felt somewhat resigned. Five minutes really was all he would give her. Sebastian could be quite stingy at times.

"And one more thing," Emily, ignoring Sebastian's icy stare, hurriedly added, "I saw Brittany this afternoon. She looked quite pale. We're not that close, so I didn't feel right asking. Can you talk to her?"

"Brittany?" Isabella had been in touch with Brittany but hadn't probed too deeply into her recent activities, given Brittany's evasions and Isabella's distractions.

Upon hearing Emily's account, Isabella furrowed her brow.

"Yeah, she looked really unwell, like she was at her breaking point. Could you have a chat with her? I'll go on ahead; if I stay any longer, I'll be petrified by Mr. Lawrence's glare." Emily scampered off.

"It just rained," Isabella raised her chin, cautioning, "Take slowly!"

Watching Emily depart, Isabella withdrew her gaze and entered the car.

Isabella and Sebastian had always held differing views on Brittany and Joshua, never quite seeing eye to eye.

Nevertheless, when it came to friends, Isabella still consulted Sebastian, "Is Joshua getting engaged?"

Sebastian started the car, eyes fixed ahead. "Don't meddle in their affairs; let Joshua handle it himself."

"What good can a scoundrel like him do?" Isabella couldn't roast.

Though her voice was low, Sebastian caught every word.

There was a hint of gravity in his expression as he gripped the steering wheel a bit tighter. "Let him be... He's chosen a path with a future for Brittany. If she can endure these few days, it'll likely be over."

Isabella stared at Sebastian intently, "I sense there's more to what you're saying. Are you feeling sad for something?"

Though Sebastian maintained a stoic façade, Isabella sensed an underlying tension. Behind his icy demeanor, there seemed to be a veil of concealment.

Intent on not discussing Joshua and Brittany further, Sebastian glanced at Isabella and smiled faintly, "Be good. Focus all your attention on me; I don't want to discuss other men with you."

Isabella retorted, "You're so oppressive. Why are you getting jealous so easily?"

Realizing Sebastian didn't want to delve into the previous topic, she fell silent, leaning against the car window, gazing out at the night scenery.

Sebastian's heart softened. All the weariness of the day seemed inconsequential now.

"Hey, hey, hey." Isabella suddenly turned to face Sebastian, pointing towards a newly constructed commercial building by the roadside. "Is this the new Lawrence Group mall?"

Sebastian followed Isabella's gesture. "Yes."

"I haven't been buying groceries in so long." Isabella's eyes sparkled with excitement.

Without a word, Sebastian turned the car around.

Isabella beamed, a pair of faint dimples appearing on her cheeks.

Once the car stopped, Isabella leaned in close to Sebastian, planting a soft kiss on his cheek, "Reward."

Sebastian hesitated for a moment, his movements faltering as he pulled out the car keys. With a laugh, Isabella swiftly opened the door and disembarked.

At the front of the car, Isabella waved to Sebastian in the driver's seat. "Come on ."

The mall glowed brightly, and Isabella stood amidst the various lights. Her smile, radiant like the sun, outshone the glowing lights and illuminated Sebastian's heart.

Sebastian was overwhelmed by a powerful impulse to hide her.

He pushed the door open and stepped out of the car.

Isabella watched him quietly. As he emerged, his body was slightly bent, his black shirt delineated his slender waist, and his arm muscles were flexing against the fabric, taut and powerful.

He was indeed captivating.

Isabella hurried over and looped her arm through his, resting her cheek against his forearm.

Sebastian's heart raced as he leaned down to tell Isabella, "Let's not shop."

"Huh?" Isabella looked up with a tinge of disappointment. "What about next time?"

Sebastian smirked, "What about booking a room?"

"You..." It dawned on Isabella, and she playfully kicked Sebastian, admonishing, "No!"

Sebastian's husky and alluring laughter easily tinted Isabella's cheeks red.

The newly opened mall in the city center bustled with the evening rush as employees clocked out.

Isabella led the way as Sebastian pushed the shopping cart behind her.

"It's been a long time since I had these classic fries. We should watch a movie at home and enjoy them together." Isabella turned, bouncing the bag of fries in her hand, full of delight.

"And you probably haven't tried this one," Isabella said, picking up a pack of spicy chips. She chuckled as her smile reached her ears. "I'll just have a tiny bit."

She pinched a minuscule portion between her index finger and thumb.

Leaning against a shelf, Sebastian looked indulgent, his expression lazy and uninhibited. "Buy whatever you want."

Isabella realized the potent allure of shopping for the first time. It felt so good!

She wandered around, piling snacks, fruits, and vegetables into the cart.
