Chapter 441 Marcus Seemed to Have a Problem with Me
The weird weather was like a heads-up for a wild day ahead.
But no matter how crappy the weather got, Samuel and Lynda's engagement party was still on.
The biggest hotel in Maple Valley was the spot for this shindig.
Fancy decor, flowers everywhere, romantic tunes, champagne, and top-shelf booze, plus guests from all over Maple Valley—this party screamed class and style.
Isabella didn't wanna show up; she thought it'd be too loud and annoying.
After a lot of back-and-forth, she finally decided to go.
She figured, 'I might only get to see Lynda humiliated once in this lifetime, so why not?'
She knew her grievances were destined to go unaddressed, so seeing others punish Lynda was quite satisfying.
At least it took the edge off her own bitterness.
Sebastian held her hand, squeezing it tighter.
He led Isabella to a quiet corner, sticking by her side.
Isabella noticed his unease and guilt, sighing silently.
They had changed. What used to be sweet moments now felt awkward and forced.
"Does your wound still hurt?" Isabella asked softly, still worried about him.
Sebastian tightened his grip on her hand, shook his head, and said, "Isabella, I can't throw Lynda in jail or kill her, but I will destroy what she cares about most."
His words were heavy, dead serious.
Isabella's fingers felt a bit cold. Sebastian held her tight, and she felt the warmth from his hand.
That warmth, along with his words, hit her heart and ears.
Her heart raced as she asked, confused, "What does Lynda care about the most?"
Sebastian was about to answer when suddenly, a voice cut in, "Isabella!"
From the other side, Marcus and Heather walked over.
Isabella looked up. Running into Marcus at this kind of event was no surprise.
But she didn't expect him to come over and say hi.
The last time they met at the mall, after clearing things up, Isabella and Marcus hadn't talked since.
"Marcus, long time no see." Meeting Marcus's eyes, Isabella smiled slightly and greeted him.
As she spoke, Isabella was kinda surprised. Her attitude towards Marcus had changed, like meeting an old friend.
Familiar yet strange, distant yet friendly.
For ex-lovers to get to this point showed they had both moved on.
Isabella was pretty happy about it.
Since Marcus showed up, Sebastian's face had darkened.
Isabella's smile made his expression even darker, and his eyes turned cold.
He stayed stern, his cold gaze fixed on Marcus with a clear warning.
Marcus seemed oblivious to his stare. He walked straight to Isabella, frowned, and asked worriedly, "Isabella, long time no see. How've you been lately?"
"Pretty good," Isabella clearly felt the shift in Sebastian's vibe. After a quick response, she changed the subject, "Aren't you gonna introduce us?"
She smiled and slightly tilted her head towards Heather.
Marcus's Adam's apple bobbed, and his ears turned red. This was the first time he brought Heather to an engagement party, officially introducing her to the Maple Valley crowd as his fiancée.
Introducing Heather made him a bit shy, especially in front of Isabella.
Having moved on from a past that didn't work out, he was heading towards his own happiness.
So, even though he was shy, Marcus cleared his throat and said seriously, "Isabella, this is my fiancée, Heather."
Heather was totally caught off guard. She thought Marcus would just call her a companion or friend in front of Isabella.
Her heart was racing, and her face felt hot.
Turned out, even the most chill woman could get all girly when the guy she liked said something sweet.
Heather hid her excitement well and smiled warmly. "I'm Heather. Nice to meet you."
Sometimes, there was just a spark between people, and Isabella and Heather seemed to click.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Isabella," Isabella smiled and introduced Sebastian beside her to Heather, "This is my husband, Sebastian."
Sebastian gave a slight nod, greeting silently.
His cold expression seemed to say that Heather and Marcus should scram.
Heather wasn't used to dealing with such intense people. She nodded at Sebastian and then looked back at Isabella.
She tentatively said, "Mr. Lawrence and Mrs. Lawrence seem really close. It's enviable."
As she spoke, Marcus watched Isabella's reaction.
The sudden comment made Isabella raise an eyebrow and then tighten her fingers.
Sebastian squeezed her hand, and she realized why Heather said that.
Sebastian had been holding her hand the whole time.
She smiled and said, "Thanks."
"You two seem great together too," Isabella had noticed Marcus's slightly red ears when introducing Heather. She smiled, "When's the wedding? Don't forget to invite me."
Coming from a prestigious family and having good etiquette and social skills, Isabella could keep the conversation smooth even with the tension between Sebastian and Marcus.
She was already a pro at handling these situations.
Heather nodded in agreement.
The two had a small talk.
Since Heather grew up abroad, Isabella told her about some famous snacks and attractions in Maple Valley.
While Isabella and Heather talked, Marcus's gaze wandered between Isabella and Sebastian.
When he looked at Sebastian, his eyes were full of malice and dislike. But when he looked at Isabella, they were filled with pity, sympathy, and guilt.
Sebastian had had enough.
He picked up a wine glass, swirling the liquid inside, his demeanor calm. "Marcus seems to have a lot of issues with me."
As soon as he spoke, silence fell among the four, instantly killing the good vibe they had going.
Marcus had been avoiding talking to Sebastian, worried he might mess up the engagement party.
