Chapter 373 It's Okay, Cry

Isabella squeezed her eyes shut, her forehead wrinkled with worry.

"No, no, please." Her panicked whispers echoed in the quiet hospital room.

Sebastian was in the kitchen making pasta when he heard her. He rushed back and grabbed her hand, which was clutching the bedsheets.

Isabella clung to his hand, her nails digging into his skin. Ignoring the pain, he called out, "Isabella!"

No response. Sebastian called again, more anxious—still nothing. He let her hold one hand while he pressed the call button with the other.

Turning back to her, he saw her eyes open, staring blankly at the ceiling. Her eyes were bloodshot, her pupils dull.

Isabella was awake but seemed lost, which worried Sebastian more than when she was unconscious.

His chest tightened with pain. He wanted to pull his hand away to hug her, but before he could, she grabbed him tighter, her chest heaving.

Isabella was tense, her breathing rapid. Seeing her like this, Sebastian felt another stab of pain.

"I'm not leaving. It's okay, I'm here," Sebastian whispered, trying to comfort her.

Isabella's vision was blurry. Her ears were filled with a mix of sounds—crashes, Lynda's cruel voice, a baby's cry, and Sebastian's voice—noises that made her feel like she was drowning.

Sebastian's hand was her lifeline. Her nails dug into his skin, drawing a bit of blood.

But he didn't care. He was afraid any sudden movement might scare Isabella, so he stood quietly, gently touching her hair.

His gentle actions reassured her. She licked her dry lips, her eyes slowly focusing.

Sebastian watched her closely, letting out a long breath as he saw her change. He didn't dare move.

There was a knock on the door. "Mr. Lawrence, may we come in?" Thomas asked.

Sebastian looked at the door. Just as he was about to call Thomas in, he felt Isabella's grip tighten.

Sensing her fear, he said, "Come back later, not now."

Footsteps retreated.

Sebastian looked down at Isabella. "They'll come later. Don't be afraid."

As her tense nerves relaxed, she let go of his hand.

Isabella opened her mouth, her breathing calming; she was coming back to her senses.

But then she suddenly sat up, grabbing his arm, her eyes wide with tears. "My babies?"

"Our babies." Isabella's voice was raw, like she'd been screaming, and her eyes were wild with panic.

She couldn't bring herself to look down, terrified of seeing her flat belly. Isabella wanted to touch her belly, to feel the warmth of their babies. But her hand hovered, too scared to make contact. Fear paralyzed her.

Isabella looked up at Sebastian, her red eyes pleading like a frightened rabbit, which broke his heart.

Sebastian felt a wave of pity. He sat beside her, pulling her into his arms.

Holding her, he finally let go of the anxiety and fear he'd been carrying.

With his chin resting on her head, he whispered, "Don't be afraid; everything's fine."

Isabella's body stiffened at his words, which echoed in her mind. Her heart sank. She grew rigid, and Sebastian felt a deep ache.

It was his fault for not protecting her, for putting her in danger. He should've stayed with her instead of going to the office.

Just one day, why not? If he'd been with her, none of this would have happened.

Sebastian knew he had wanted her to find him, to see if she missed him enough to seek him out. Sometimes, men's desires could be strange but real.

"I'm not lying; it's true. Babies are fine." He took her cold hand and placed it on her belly, whispering, "Feel for yourself. They're fine."

Isabella let him guide her. As her palm pressed against her belly, feeling the warmth, she finally broke down, sobbing softly. She clung to Sebastian's shirt, her tears soaking it.

She was truly terrified. But everything was okay. Otherwise, she didn't know what she'd do.

Sebastian felt her crying. But she refused to shout out loud; her sobs were almost silent, like she had no emotions left. But he knew this was the most vulnerable he'd ever seen her.

He gently pushed her away, cupping her face and wiping her tears with his thumb.

Then he cradled her face. "Don't hold back in front of me; it's okay to cry out loud." He'd rather see her cry loudly than silently endure, which was like a knife piercing his heart.

"It's okay, cry," he said hoarsely.

Isabella locked eyes with him, her beautiful eyes reflecting his image. Sebastian did the same, his gaze full of comfort and tenderness.

In this state, she couldn't resist him.
