Chapter 168: Forced to Be Your Lover
Chapter 168: Forced to Be Your Lover
Isabella naturally couldn't have imagined, let alone guessed, his thoughts.
"I think... I can handle Lynda," Isabella replied, "so big brother doesn't have to worry about me."
"Alright."
"Ah... Huh?"
Isabella thought that Jarod Lawrence might still insist, but she didn't expect him to answer so readily.
"If you're able to handle it, then I won't meddle too much," Jarod Lawrence said. "But if... if you ever feel overwhelmed, you can always come to me. I'm more than willing to help my little sister."
"Thank you, big brother."
"Don't mention it. We're family."
With that, Jarod Lawrence turned his wheelchair and left.
Isabella watched as he returned to the roadside, and a driver got out of the car to assist him in getting in before folding up the wheelchair.
Had Jarod Lawrence just come across her by chance after leaving the Lawrence Group company, or had he specifically... come to find her?
The more she thought about it, the more confused she became. Jarod Lawrence was indeed not an easy person to figure out; his actions were unpredictable.
Perhaps it's better not to trust others too easily, Isabella muttered to herself as she walked back to the office building and pressed the elevator button.
She lowered her head, looking at her own feet, unconsciously kicking the smooth marble floor.
"Ding." The elevator doors opened, and Isabella was about to step inside when suddenly, she noticed someone in the reflection on the ground.
This was a private elevator that regular people couldn't ride.
So...
Isabella raised her head and looked at the two people inside the elevator.
Brittany was biting her lip, an expression of anger on her face, her hair somewhat disheveled, and her wrist held tightly by Joshua.
Joshua had effectively cornered her, his tall figure completely blocking her from view. From Isabella's angle, only half of Brittany's head was visible.
Isabella and Brittany locked eyes, both of them stunned by this scene.
"Isabella..." Brittany was the first to speak, her voice choked with emotion.
It was clear she had been bullied.
Joshua had his back facing the elevator entrance, and when he heard Brittany speak, he turned his head to look at Isabella.
Just so happened, when he turned around, the elevator doors slowly closed.
Isabella only froze for a second before rushing over and blocking the elevator doors. "Joshua, are you even a man anymore!" she exclaimed.
She pulled Joshua aside and forcefully pushed him away, standing in front of Brittany.
"This is between her and me," Joshua said with a stern face. "Isabella, don't interfere."
"Fine, I can handle it." Isabella's voice was determined as she spoke. "But that doesn't mean you can treat her this way!"
"Doesn't matter," she nodded. "Tell me, who are you to her?"
Joshua pressed his lips together, remaining silent.
"You can't answer, right?" Isabella looked at him. "Then let me ask you again, what business do you have with her?"
Brittany whispered from behind, "About last night, when we were drinking."
Even in the small elevator, Joshua could hear Brittany's soft voice.
"What does drinking have to do with him?" Isabella directly questioned. "He seems to be too involved."
Joshua looked at both of them and said, "Do you not know how dangerous it is for two girls to go to such a place?"
"I believe that no matter how dangerous the place is, it can never be as dangerous as being near you."
Saying this, Isabella took Brittany's hand and said, "Let's go, we're leaving."
Before Brittany could respond, Joshua interjected, "No, she's staying."
"Why?"
"I have something to tell her."
"But it seems like Brittany doesn't want to talk to you."
Frowning, Joshua said, "Isabella, if you don't let her go, you won't be able to take her away."
"Is that so?" She smiled. "I'm a stubborn person. The more you say I can't, the more I want to prove you wrong."
Joshua remained silent and turned his gaze back to Brittany, asking, "Are you sure you want to go with her?"
Isabella didn't pay attention to his words and was about to leave with Brittany when Brittany suddenly withdrew her hand.
She stood there motionless, looking at Brittany in disbelief.
"Isabella, you... go ahead," Brittany said. "I'll find you later."
"Are you afraid of him?"
"No, I have something to say to him."
"But just now..."
Brittany's attitude became almost pleading, "Isabella, please don't ask..."
"But he has no reason to bother you."
Brittany didn't speak anymore, but there were shimmering tears in her eyes.
Isabella's heart softened instantly.
After a pause, she sighed, "Alright, I'll go first."
After speaking, she glanced at Joshua and said, "I really don't think you're a real man."
"Haven't you called me a scumbag enough times?"
"Did I insult you wrongly?"
Joshua pressed the elevator button. "Let's go out."
Isabella quickly walked away.
When Isabella saw the tear-filled eyes of Brittany, she wondered what she should do if one day she and Sebastian were together and faced an unspeakable dilemma.
Brittany loved Joshua, but Joshua... he really is despicable!
Inside the elevator.
Brittany stood in the corner, looking into Joshua's eyes with hatred in her gaze.
"For the first time... you look at me with such obvious hatred, for the first time..." Joshua said, "we've finally come to this point."
"You betrayed me, our relationship, even had an affair and married Nicole. I could tolerate all that because you hurt me, and I could handle it alone. But today... why? Why did you have to destroy me completely?"
"I just wanted you back by my side, Ashuang."
She yelled, "But you're getting married!"
"But I still love you!"
Brittany's tears immediately fell. "So you threaten me, force me to be your secret lover! Otherwise, you'll go after the Everly family!"
How could she let Isabella know about this?
So, she didn't have the courage to leave.
Since Joshua said it, he would definitely follow through.
Brittany couldn't act recklessly.
If Joshua wanted to do something to her, she didn't mind, but her family... they were her weak spot.
"I will treat you well," Joshua said. "Very well... just like before."
Brittany stared at him fixedly. "Aren't you afraid Nicole will find out?"
"She won't know."
"Well, you have your ways of hiding it from her," Brittany muttered. "Even if she finds out, she'll only come to me... she likes you so much. As long as you marry her, she can tolerate anything you do."
Joshua spoke, "Let's not mention Nicole. I'll ask you again, Brittany, will you agree or not?"
"Why must it be me? Mr. Sinclair, you have no lack of women to choose from. Why cling to a woman you have played with for years... what's the point? You can choose someone more beautiful, with a better figure, someone who brings novelty."
"Perhaps... I'm sentimental."
"Don't you find it dull?"
Joshua slowly approached her. "I think it's more flavorful."
Brittany had no way out now, there was no turning back. She could only look up at him and say, "...I was wrong, Joshua."
"Wrong?"
