Chapter 213 You Believe Ignorance Is Bliss?
Nicole was still holding the cup and shouting angrily, "You do care about her; don’t you?! You rushed over so quickly! You're supposed to marry me, so why are you treating me like this?!"
"Did you throw this?"
"Yes!"
"I'll remember this," Joshua said.
His voice was incredibly calm and firm. But from his gaze alone, Nicole could sense his overwhelming bloodlust.
Nicole's hand unconsciously trembled as she tried to meet his gaze. The cup slipped from her hand, fell to the ground, and shattered into pieces.
Joshua didn't even glance at her again. He bent down, picked up Brittany in his arms, and strode away.
He knew that Brittany was proud and aloof. In such a public environment, especially in front of Sebastian, and her best friend, Isabella, enduring such an insult must have been extremely hard for her.
Taking her away was the best solution.
Nicole was left standing there, alone.
She watched in shock as Joshua carried Brittany away.
As if coming out of a nightmare, her body jolted, and she quickly chased after them, "No, Joshua, you can't hold her like this! I'm the woman you're about to marry..."
He brushed her off without even turning his head.
Nicole fell to the ground, watching him walk away.
Brittany, nestled in his arms, didn't lift her head again.
She yelled in their direction, "Brittany! You shameless bitch!"
In the end, Nicole was left alone, having to suffer the awkwardness of the situation all by herself.
Sebastian also left with Isabella; he didn’t want this nonsense to upset her.
She was pregnant now; she was the person who should be protected and cared for the most.
As Sebastian led Isabella away, she kept glancing back, "Nicole, she..."
"Do you even care about her?"
"No," she shook her head, "I was just thinking... Nicole is Joshua's official girlfriend, and they've even sent out engagement invitations. So why did he take Brittany?"
Sebastian did not answer.
"From the moment he walked in, all his attention was on Brittany. Why is that?"
After a few seconds of silence, Sebastian finally replied, "Maybe it's because Brittany got splashed with orange juice."
"No, it's because he still loves Brittany. It doesn’t seem like he even cares about Nicole," Isabella said. "Could it be that..."
She didn't finish her sentence but instead gasped.
"Don't concern yourself too much with other people's business," Sebastian glanced at her, "Joshua will handle it."
"But do you know what Brittany just told me?"
"What?"
Isabella paused, "I don't want to tell you."
During their meal, Brittany had sworn that she and Joshua would never cross paths again.
Then Nicole showed up, and Joshua too. He carried her away from this embarrassing ordeal, and his every word and action was filled with endless care and concern.
It seemed like Nicole was the one he didn’t love.
What was going on? There must be something going on between them!
Sebastian frowned, "If you don't tell me, you'll never understand."
"You and Joshua are thick as thieves, " Isabella said. "You know very well why he did this, but you won't tell me."
"I really don't know."
Isabella looked down, "You don't have to lie; I won't ask anymore. But..."
"Hmm?"
"If it was me and Lynda instead of them, I wonder what would happen," she said and then laughed, "Sebastian, would I be in Nicole's place, or Brittany's?"
Before Sebastian could answer, she answered herself, "Whether I'm Nicole or Brittany, it's all quite sad, isn't it? All this is because of Joshua; it's the man's fault, but why are two women the ones getting hurt?"
Men make mistakes, women pay the price.
What did Joshua stand to lose?
He was still engaged to Nicole; he was still going to get the marriage license, and he was still going to hold the wedding.
And Brittany?
She just said, herself, that Joshua wouldn't come looking for her anymore.
Yes, Joshua didn't come, but Nicole did.
Nicole seemed to be implying that Joshua and Brittany were still entangled, still together...
Because she called Brittany shameless.
If she wasn’t sure about it, Nicole wouldn't make such a big scene in the restaurant and publicly humiliate Brittany; it wouldn't benefit her. She must have been desperate.
Joshua rushed over in a hurry and when he arrived, he only cared about Brittany. At the same time, he seemed to be nothing but hostile towards Nicole.
Just when she thought she was onto something, Sebastian suddenly said, "Get in the car."
Her train of thought was completely interrupted.
"Why did Joshua come here?" Isabella asked, "How did he know the restaurant's address?"
"I told him to come," was Sebastian’s response.
"You?"
Sebastian stood in front of the car door, answering calmly, "It had to be done. I couldn't possibly meddle between Nicole and Brittany."
"You must know something." Isabella looked at him, "You know Joshua best, so you must know."
Sebastian leaned slightly and put his hand resting on her waist, indicating for her to get into the car. "Isabella, sometimes, it's better for you not to know certain things."
"So, you believe ignorance is bliss?"
"To some extent, yes."
Isabella looked at him deeply and asked, "Then, are there many things... you're keeping from me?"
It was just a whimsical question.
But strangely, Sebastian's gaze shifted slightly; it seemed like he was avoiding her gaze.
"Get in the car," he said again, "We're going to the Lawrence family home tonight."
Isabella opened her mouth to ask, but in the end, didn't say a word.
If Sebastian really wanted to hide something from her, she wouldn't be able to find out.
He was right, some things were better left unknown.
…
New York No.1.
Brittany sat in front of the bathroom mirror, holding a hairdryer as she dried her hair.
She had washed her hair, removed her makeup, taken off her orange juice-stained clothes, and put on new loungewear.
Joshua walked in. She didn't turn around, but saw him through the mirror.
There was deep concern in his eyes, "Brittany..."
"The thing I feared most has happened, and it came so quickly," she said, "Nicole found me and berated me."
"I'll handle her."
Brittany turned off the hairdryer and turned to look at him, "Didn't you swear that you would hide it well, so she wouldn't find out?"
"I..."
"Indeed, I have no right to question you." Brittany laughed mockingly, "You naturally do as you please. After all, she would never splash a glass of orange juice on you."
Joshua replied, "There won't be a next time."
