Chapter 456 Mr. Lawrence, Are You Okay?
"I'll give you the plate number. Check it now. I need the results ASAP." Sebastian's voice was colder than ice, and his sharp lips cut through each word.
After a beat, he spoke again, "Half a minute's up. Whose car is it?"
In that short time, Kaine did his best. As soon as Sebastian finished, Kaine blurted out, "It's Mr. Carter."
Sebastian's brows knitted together. "Did Samuel take Isabella away? Is he the kidnapper?"
He was caught off guard, momentarily losing focus, and the car skidded.
Sebastian's brows furrowed again as he quickly and skillfully maneuvered the steering wheel. He was a top-notch driver.
But in the heavy rain, the car was going too fast, and it wasn't built for racing. No matter how hard Sebastian tried, it was useless. The car suddenly crashed into the guardrail ahead.
Sebastian's pupils constricted as he leaned forward, unable to dodge, and hit the steering wheel.
The old, beat-up taxi had faulty airbags, offering no protection at all.
With such a hard impact, a sharp pain surged through Sebastian's head. Warm blood trickled from the top of his head, down his face.
Every slight movement tugged at the knife wound on his chest, making his whole body scream in pain.
Sebastian's vision darkened. He gripped the steering wheel with both hands, struggling to lift his upper body off it. But as soon as he propped himself up, his arm gave out, and he collapsed back onto the steering wheel.
"Mr. Lawrence! Mr. Lawrence, are you okay? Can you hear me?" On the other end of the phone, Kaine heard the loud crash and shouted in panic.
"Not dead," Sebastian said hoarsely, fighting the pain. "Don't let this get out. Especially keep it from the Lawrence family."
Sebastian's vision blurred as he struggled to speak. After using all his strength, he finally exhaled.
"Most importantly, Isabella." Sebastian strained to bring the phone closer to his mouth and said hoarsely, "Bring Isabella home... Also, ask Samuel what he wants and give it to..."
The last word was left unsaid as darkness overtook Sebastian. The phone fell to the ground with a thud.
On the other end, Kaine's face turned pale, and cold sweat covered his forehead. "Mr. Lawrence!"
Sebastian gave no response, and blood slowly trickled down his face.
Meanwhile, on the rainy night at Starlight Ridge, Samuel stopped the car. He turned around to look at Isabella. She was still curled up, like a lifeless doll.
Samuel said, "This is my private place. No one knows about it. You can stay here for a few days. It's not too late to leave once your matters are settled."
Isabella had been quiet the entire way, still in shock.
Isabella lifted her head. "Sorry, Samuel, what did you say? I wasn't paying attention."
Samuel shook his head helplessly and repeated his words.
"No need," Isabella shook her head. "I'm already very grateful that you took me away, Samuel."
She tried to smile but couldn't manage it.
"Thanks, Samuel." Isabella looked worn out, but she meant every word. "If you ever need anything, and I can help, I will."
Samuel waved it off with a smile. "Don't sweat it. We were partners once, and with our blood type connection, we're practically friends. Friends help each other, no need to be so formal."
Isabella was too tired to keep chatting. She mumbled, "Alright, I'll be going now, Samuel. Next time, dinner's on me."
With that, she got out of the car.
The rain had eased up but was still coming down, and the wind was strong. Isabella hugged herself for warmth as she stepped out.
She walked away in the rain.
Behind her, Samuel called out, "At least take an umbrella! You're pregnant; you can't catch a cold. If you do, it's not just you who will suffer."
Isabella stopped, mechanically looking down at her belly. She knew these two kids were the root of all her problems, but she couldn't bring herself to harm them. After all, they were her children.
Isabella pressed her lips together and clenched her hand. She couldn't drag the kids into the mess between adults. Just as she was about to turn around, a sharp pain hit her chest.
Isabella had been so numb from the pain that she hardly felt it anymore. But suddenly, it felt like her heart was being squeezed tight.
Isabella clutched her chest, pressing hard with her hand. The pain was still there. She bent over in pain, letting out a faint groan. Then, her right eyelid started twitching.
The sudden heartache made her feel like something very important had gone wrong.
"Isabella!" Samuel rushed over, his usual smile replaced by concern.
Without thinking, he bent down and picked her up.
Oliver, holding an umbrella, hurried over. Seeing Samuel carrying Isabella, a strange look crossed his face, especially when he noticed her belly. He was shocked.
Samuel quickly walked past him and instructed, "Call the family doctor."
Even though he didn't live in Maple Valley or Starlight Ridge often, he still had a family doctor on standby.
Isabella felt uncomfortable all over. She wanted to push Samuel away but had no strength left to lift her hand.
Luckily, Samuel quickly brought her to a room and, after setting her down, didn't touch her again.
Soon, a doctor in a white coat, carrying a medical kit and accompanied by two assistants, hurried over. To avoid any awkwardness, Samuel left the room.
Isabella sighed in relief. Given the situation, she had no reason to refuse.
Actually, even without seeing a doctor, Isabella knew what was wrong. It was caused by emotional agitation, and calming down would help.
The sudden heartache was unexpected, but Isabella didn't pay much attention to it. Emotional fluctuations affecting the body were common.
After the examination, the doctor confirmed it was indeed due to emotional agitation.
