Chapter 429 Why Look for Samuel?
"Figured it out yet? Or," he stretched out his words, "missed me?"
Right then, Isabella had a lightbulb moment. After all this time, she realized she got Sebastian better than anyone else.
Like, right now, most folks would think Sebastian was grinning, all happy and stuff.
But no.
He was pissed.
She thought, 'Is he mad already?'
Isabella found it kinda funny. How could someone be so bossy?
He could keep secrets, but she couldn't dig for the truth?
"Nope," Isabella said. "Just came back to grab some stuff, some study materials. Even if the person who pushed me to work hard isn't worth it anymore, I can't just quit halfway."
Sebastian's eyes darkened. With just a few words, Isabella hit him right in the feels.
Not worth it?
Not long ago, she was all starry-eyed, telling him she'd work hard for him, to be his rock.
Sebastian's throat tightened, and his voice got all rough, "Had lunch yet? I haven't. Join me."
Isabella was hurt by Sebastian's questioning.
She cut him off, "Already ate. Told you, eat by yourself."
Last chance, gone.
Isabella was super frustrated.
The hope that had sprouted kept getting crushed. Isabella was human, not a machine; she couldn't take it.
"I'm heading back to the hotel." Isabella started to walk out.
"Really eaten?" Sebastian grabbed her wrist, his tone all weird.
Before Isabella could answer, the slight smile in his words vanished, and he said coldly, "Does drinking bubble tea count as lunch?"
A chill ran from her feet to her head.
Isabella couldn't believe it. She was shocked, her eyes wide.
"Sebastian," she called his name, her brows furrowed tightly, and said suppressively, "I didn't go after you for sneaking into my hotel, but how dare you spy on me!"
Sebastian was stunned, not expecting Isabella to catch on to him sneaking into the hotel.
She slept so soundly every night, how did she know? Did Brittany mention it?
Sebastian didn't ask.
He already knew about Isabella's interaction with Samuel.
Jealousy burned in his heart, almost consuming his reason.
"Spy? Nah," Sebastian used his free hand to pull out a tissue and gently wiped the remaining sweat from Isabella's temple, his thin lips parting slightly, "I was at that bubble tea shop. You just didn't notice. I went to find you and happened to run into you. So, your questioning is unnecessary."
When Isabella was about to snap back, Sebastian suddenly pinched her chin, his finger pressing against her lips.
Isabella's face turned red, looking at this shameless guy. What right did he have to treat her like this!
Everything she was doing now was because he let Lynda go!
Sebastian said, "You lied to me, so answer me one by one."
Ignoring Isabella's anger, Sebastian asked, "At the sanatorium, what were you talking about with Samuel? At the bubble tea shop, what were you discussing? What were you looking for just before I entered the room?"
After throwing out the questions, Sebastian finally let go of her.
Even though he was holding back, Sebastian still pinched Isabella's chin so hard that it turned red, faintly showing a fingerprint.
In his deep, dark eyes, a flash of heartache flickered.
Sebastian raised his hand, wanting to touch the red mark.
Isabella slapped his hand away. She bit her lip, her pale lips showing a hint of blood.
But her face was even paler than before.
Her eyes were brimming with tears, so aggrieved, so uncomfortable.
"Is it necessary to ask me?" Isabella took a breath, laughing sarcastically, "You already know, you've already found out, why waste your breath?"
"If you really want to hear it from me, I can tell you. Listen carefully, I am looking for evidence against Lynda." Isabella spoke clearly, enunciating each word. "No matter how long it takes, seven days, ten days, a hundred days, even a lifetime, I will never let Lynda go! No matter how good you are to me, this matter will never be forgotten deep in my heart!"
She thought, 'All those previous entanglements, to hell with them.'
Isabella was now clear and certain, "If Lynda doesn't go to jail, I will keep looking for evidence. So, Sebastian, I advise you, stop sneaking into my bed, I won't soften! And I won't get back to you!"
Isabella spoke harshly, leaving no room for retreat.
She pushed herself and Sebastian to the brink.
She wouldn't back down, and Sebastian certainly wouldn't either.
This relationship was a dead end.
Isabella's heart hurt more than if a blade had pierced it.
Sebastian's breath hitched, his eyes filled with pain.
Her words were too hurtful, too resolute.
Sebastian couldn't find a way out either. On one side was his benefactress, on the other was his love.
He couldn't wait to hand over all the evidence right now.
But he couldn't.
"Fine, I know you're looking for evidence." Sebastian didn't mention forgiveness, softening, or reconciliation.
As if by not mentioning it, Isabella hadn't said it, and he could continue to deceive himself, thinking he could win her back.
"But," Sebastian's voice was so hoarse it was unrecognizable. He swallowed hard, and after a long while, continued to ask, "Why did you go to Samuel? Do you know what kind of person he is?"
Isabella shivered with cold, the pain in her heart overshadowing all other emotions.
Sebastian's last words were like a pair of hands, tightly strangling her neck.
Isabella's chest felt suffocated, and she said in a trembling voice, "What kind of person? Lynda's fiancé? Are you feeling wronged and heartbroken for Lynda? Don't you know what kind of person Lynda is? Samuel was manipulated by her, does he have to continue serving her, being a fool? Can't he retaliate against her?"
"Does he have to keep taking care of Lynda, willingly being a big fool?" Isabella asked repeatedly, "We have the same goal, can't we cooperate?"
"Isabella!" Sebastian's voice was harsh, deeply hurt by Isabella's words, tearing apart all his calm facade, "What nonsense are you talking about! Is that what I mean?"
Isabella was startled by Sebastian's low roar, taking a step back.
"Then what do you mean?" She raised her head, clenching her fists tightly, refusing to show weakness, "I can't pursue it, Samuel can't retaliate, should we both just be fools? Don't be too domineering."
Sebastian's ears rang for a moment, then he heard his own heavy breathing due to anger. "You?"
