Chapter 481 Janet Might Not Wake Up
Janet, leaning on her cane, quickly got up from her wheelchair and hurried over to Lynda, her face full of worry. "What happened? What's going on with Isabella?"
Lynda looked straight at Janet. "Mrs. Wallace, Isabella's been tricked."
Janet's voice shook. "By who?"
Lynda sighed. "By her husband, Sebastian Lawrence."
Janet forced a smile, shaking her head. "No way, that can't be true."
Lynda wiped her tears. "I'm not making this up. Mr. Lawrence married Isabella just to have a kid. He's got a lover who can't have children. Once Isabella has the baby, they're planning to take it away and kick her out. It's all true, Mrs. Wallace. I'm not lying. Isabella's trapped at home by Sebastian. She was in a car accident recently and almost died. Please, you have to help her. She married Sebastian to save you; you can't just leave her like this."
Lynda's words came out in a rush, and Janet's face went pale. She staggered towards the door, eyes wide with shock.
But after just a few steps, she wavered and collapsed to the ground.
Sebastian saw this and nearly crushed his phone in his hand. He punched the wall hard.
Regret gnawed at him.
He'd been wrong from the start; he shouldn't have let Lynda off because of some old debt.
The operating room door swung open.
Sebastian rushed forward, anxious. "How is she?"
He held his breath.
The doctor looked grim. "Mr. Lawrence, she might not wake up."
"What do you mean?"
"She's in a vegetative state."
Sebastian's face went white, and he stumbled back. "A vegetative state?"
The doctor nodded apologetically. "She suffered a blood clot from the shock. Saving her life was tough enough. But there's still a chance she might wake up. If you can get that brain thrombosis expert, Mr. Aiden, her chances will be better."
Isabella's nap was restless, her heart rate all over the place.
It was normal during pregnancy, so she didn't think much of it.
She stayed at Willowbrook Estate all day, and in the evening, Sebastian came back.
Isabella stood by the window and saw him get out of the car. In that moment, everything else faded away, and her eyes were only on him.
Realizing this, Isabella pinched her thigh and cursed herself inwardly, then quickly turned away, not looking at him anymore.
After Sebastian came back, he didn't come to her directly. This made Isabella feel a bit relieved but also a bit disappointed.
She laughed at herself.
No matter how determined she tried to be, she still loved the man who had schemed against her.
"Ma'am, dinner's ready," Carl knocked on the door from outside.
Isabella had to eat; she wasn't alone and couldn't be reckless. She took a deep breath and walked out of the room.
As soon as she stepped into the hallway, her eyes met Sebastian's. He smiled at her and slightly raised his chin. "It's almost ready."
Isabella then noticed he was carrying a tray from the dining room.
She thought, 'So, he's been cooking.'
Living like this, almost like a normal couple, made Isabella feel a bit happy, but she still said coldly, "Sebastian, you don't have to do this."
Sebastian sat across from her and put her favorite food in her bowl. "Eat."
Isabella couldn't bring herself to show weakness; she didn't touch her fork.
"Have a good meal with me, and I'll agree to your proposal for separation," Sebastian said. "But during the separation, you have to stay at Willowbrook Estate."
"Is this another form of imprisonment?"
"These two months are critical; you need to take care of yourself," Sebastian added. "Don't worry, I won't show up for a month. If you still want it, I'll divorce you."
Isabella was shocked. "Are you serious?"
Sebastian's faint smile looked heavy, and his eyes, gazing at Isabella, were filled with pain and tenderness. "Yes, but you can't leave Willowbrook Estate, just for a month. And tonight, have a good meal with me."
Isabella felt bitter. When Sebastian finally agreed to divorce, she didn't feel happy; instead, she felt empty inside.
"Okay." After a moment of silence, Isabella agreed.
The meal was peaceful. Isabella ate the food Sebastian gave her, just like when they were most in love, as if nothing had changed, but everything was different.
That night, Sebastian forced his way into Isabella's small room. No matter how hard Isabella tried to keep him out, it was useless. She was tired and let him in.
In the quiet night, Sebastian's magnetic laughter echoed.
They lay quietly, neither moving nor sleeping.
This state lasted for a long time. In the middle of the night, Isabella heard Sebastian ask, "Isabella, do you still love me?"
'Love?' Isabella thought carefully, her eyes stinging. She chuckled softly. "Yeah, I can't love anyone else. I once thought I had a future and would meet someone to replace you, but I know in my heart, I won't. But I don't want to go back on my word; you're too bad. Separation is the best choice. I'll be relieved, and you won't have to suffer."
Sebastian's heart raced. That word "yeah" made his heart ache and soften.
He closed his eyes and said nothing.
He thought, 'We won't separate. We will be together for a long time. In a month, I will let her relax, and I will take Janet abroad for treatment. Everything will get better.'
That night, although they kept some distance, by morning, Isabella had rolled into Sebastian's arms, her breath filled with his scent, as warm as ever.
So warm that Isabella couldn't push him away.
Of course, the reason she didn't push him away was also that Isabella didn't want to face Sebastian. She could feel the heat of Sebastian's breath; he was awake.
"I'm sorry, Isabella. It's all my fault. I'm sorry. And I love you, only you." The hoarse confession sounded in her ear, and then Sebastian got out of bed and left the small room.
Sebastian's words lingered for a long time, and Isabella's heart felt like it was being torn apart.
They loved each other but couldn't be together. God really loved to torment people.
Tears streamed down Isabella's cheeks, but she smiled. She thought, 'Maybe it isn't God; it's me. If I could just forgive him, everything would return to the way it was when we were most in love. But it's so hard.'
